I most often paint with oils or digitally, but I am also experienced with acrylic, watercolors, and gouache. For my digital paintings, I primarily use Procreate on the iPad, but I've been painting in Photoshop since I was 13. Let me know what medium you're most interested in, or whether or not you'd like to explore more than one! Even if your focus is digital, I highly recommend doing some traditional painting as well; it will greatly strengthen your digital painting skills (speaking from first-hand experience). In our lessons, we will build upon drawing foundations and strengthen your understanding of color and light by painting from observation (both from life/in person and photo/video reference). We'll learn how to mix colors and layer paint to create depth and dimension. The subjects you paint will depend on your own personal interests, whether it's landscapes, portraits, or something else; I will always give assignments with your artistic goals in mind. If you have little to no drawing experience, that's okay! Every lesson is uniquely created to fit each individual student. The same applies for more advanced students; even if you know the basics and have been painting for awhile, I'll help you hone your skills to take your work to the next level. For those that want to ultimately create fantasy paintings or work in a non-realistic style, we'll collaborate to make a lesson plan that balances your observational and imaginative skills. You'll learn how to use reference to make your stylized work more believable. As for supplies, I'll only require you to buy the kind of paint you want to learn with. And don't be intimidated; regardless of your budget, we can find a solution that works best for you. For digital painters on a budget, Krita is a free painting software that I've heard many good things about!
