    About Heather H.

Hello there! My name is Heather and I am a singer who teaches. I started out as an Opera Singer and got my Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Redlands. I also have a Masters Degree in teaching. So I not only know how to sing, but I can teach it confidently too! Lately I've been singing a different type of music though. A few years ago a 1940's style trio asked me to be a part of their group. I joined, and now we make cool jazz music together all over the country. We're called The Lindy Sisters and you can search for us online to see what I'm talking about. I love to sing in many styles and being in this group has helped me understand how to teach to that. Opera is great, but it's not the only type of singing out there. I feel confident to teach Music Theater, Jazz, Pop, Blues, and the like. *** Lesson Details *** Currently, I am a vocal professor at a local southern CA college. My students there do a lot of Disney singing. It is also a Christian-based school, so all of my students are a joy to work with. I never need to be super strict because they have great work ethics. I do assign things to work on, but only as much as the student can handle. Most of my college students return back to me each semester because I really teach them how to sing, not just learn songs. Things that are really important to me that you should learn are: Posture, Diaphragmatic Breathing, Palate Positioning, Placement, Lower Body Support and Music Theory or Reading. These will all be covered within the first few weeks of training/lessons. I learned all of these things from many different teachers around the area and have cherry picked the best information to teach to my students. I don't fool around; you will sing with confidence with me! *** Studio Equipment *** I provide a piano, music stand and mirror. If a person needs help with holding a microphone in a performance, I can provide a prop mic for training purposes. These are all that are required for vocal lessons. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a keyboard, but would PREFER that the student has a piano. *** Specialties *** At the college I work at, professors are asked to teach the "Disney" type of singing style. I also have a background in Operatic singing. Currently, I sing/professionally perform jazz standards of the 1940's and 50's. I am able to confidently teach to these various styles to full professional level.
