I have a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Massachusetts. My BA was in English from Smith College with a minor in Government. I am certified in TESOL.
I tutor students at home, in libraries or other public places, and online. I can provide a background check done by Checkr on Sept 4, 2018.
I have been tutoring for about a year now with Varsity Tutors. I have taught reading and comprehension. I do math up to third grade. I also have experience in prepping students for the English evidence-based reading and writing part of the SAT/ACT. With older students, I work best in English and Social Science.
I am approved to tutor in 20 subjects and received high scores in these areas.
I am excellent in all aspects of English - language, literature - from reading comprehension, vocabulary, essay editing and proofreading to writing. I also am knowledgeable in government and history - American, European and World. I am very aware of current events and how they relate to academics and the patterns of the past.
Since I began tutoring, I have explored many educational resources available online to help students. As part of my continuing education, I am working on how to best use them in my lessons. I have subscribed to at least 16 different web sites (ex. Quizlet, Readworks, etc.) at my own expense to continually improve my skills. I go over and above to find materials that helps my students. I am also a member of the National Tutoring Association.
I try to make difficult subjects accessible, easier to understand, and even fun. I do my best to always be positive, patient and supportive of the student’s challenges and efforts. This is the background of my teaching style.
I would work with the student’s existing curriculum and help them with their assignments. I strive to go beyond with related subject matter to further expand their knowledge, ease, and grasp. I design lesson plans tailored to their specific needs and likes – everyone is different. I strongly believe that teaching is best-done one-on-one and facilitated by conversation - where the student and I work as a team. I have worked with students in all levels – elementary, middle and high school.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please feel free to ask any questions.

I received a BA in English from Smith College with a minor in Government. I also have an M.P.A. in Public Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I also am officially certified in TESOL.
I am currently tutoring through DaDa ABC, teaching English online to Chinese children of all ages. I utilize TPR in this position, which serves to break the ice and create a fun atmosphere – necessary to bridge the challenges when not in the same room.
I have also tutored ESL students locally (in person) through Varsity Tutors. I have many memberships with online services that provide teaching support materials. I use them regularly and tailor them to the interests of my students. Learning English should be interesting and fun. I like to use subject matter that they can relate to.
I love seeing the sense of satisfaction that my students get when they learn a new concept/level in English fluency. I teach more than just language - I also include the content of culture, norms, etc.
I have a wide range of knowledge of English - both language and literatur.e. I excel in writing, reading comprehension, proofreading, and essay editing.
I would love to work with you!
