Hi, I’m Dina S., and I love teaching ESL, English online—(and in person in NYC) in a creative way. I design ESL classes that match your interests or your child’s needs and goals.
I have a TESOL certificate, a teaching license from the NYC Board of Ed and a master’s degree in art history. Whether you want to improve your English skills, get help reading a book of your choice, prepare for a test, or have a mock job interview, I can help you achieve your goals. I also work with people who have ADHD.
I have a lot of experience and qualifications as a teacher. I have a TESOL license, which means I can teach English to speakers of other languages. I taught ESOL at Community Impact @ Columbia Unviersity. I also have a master’s degree in art history, a NYC Board of Education license for grades 1-8, and I started a career school.
I’m very passionate about art and creativity, and I serve on the board of Artful Explorers, a nonprofit organization that promotes art education.
I use my creativity to make my classes interesting and engaging. I customize my lessons to suit your needs or your child's needs and interests. For example, If there's a novel you need help to understand, we can read and discuss it. If you are looking for a job, we can practice mock interviews and work on your resume. If you are a kid who loves drawing, we can write words, sentences and stories by making pictures as well as writing them.
I have students from Siberia, South Korea, China, and many other places. We have live chat sessions, share stories, and learn from each other. Elizabeth, one of my students from Beijing, wants to study in the US. We had a live videoconference with her from Beijing to NYU, which was featured in a WestView News article (July 2002).
My main goal is to help you enjoy reading and speaking English, I always find articles and stories that are relevant and interesting to you, and we have lively discussions about them. I also encourage you to tell me about your hobbies, your dreams, and your reasons for learning. I want to make you feel comfortable and confident in your abilities.
If you’re an adult, I can help you master English for work or school and overcome your challenges in communicating in everyday situations.
If you’re a child, I can help you improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English. I want you to feel confident using English in any situation.
I use interesting and multi-media activities to engage my students in learning English. We learn words to songs, watch videos about grammar, read and discuss topics that interest you.
I teach online from my home in New York City or in-person if you live in NYC. Some of my students live in other countries and want to prepare for exams like TOEFL or IELTS.
I also teach ESL to adults and children who have come to live in America. I understand the challenges of learning a new language and culture, as my parents were immigrants from Europe. I teach in person as well.
Here are some testimonials from my students:
• Anastasia from Siberia said: “I recently came to America with my family and I’ve been learning English online with Dina for 3 months now. Dina loves teaching and her classes are always interesting.”
• Seung's parent said: “Dina is very patient and considerate. She has been teaching ESL to my son in grade 6 for a year now. He has improved his grades and his confidence.”
• Teenager Elizabeth IN Beijing says: “Dina’s classes are always very engaging. She has been preparing me for the TOEFL exam for 5 months now. I feel more confident about taking the test.”
