Lesson Details

Levels Taught:
I began learning German my freshman year of high school. The language came very easily to me, partly due to my very strong interest in German language and culture. I continued taking German all through High School through the AP test which I passed with a 4. After Graduation I moved to Sonoma State University where I studied briefly but made an array of German friends with whom I still speak occasionally. Having German friends allowed my proficiency and fluency to grow exponentially and through this experience I learned the importance of a one on one setting for language acquisition. I believe students of any language benefit greatly from time spent in informal discussions about everyday life, this builds the confidence that leads to fluency.

Teaching since:
August 2013

I've been a personal academic tutor since August of 2013 specializing in basic math, pre-algebra, algebra, and algebra 2 as well as English and German. I also love teaching music. I specialize in ukulele and guitar and have been playing guitar since I was 15 and picked up the ukulele at 18. I have experience teaching people of from 8 - 70 years old and with a wide range of backgrounds, needs, and goals.

A little about myself. I was born and raised in the Sacramento area. I have 3 younger siblings ranging from 10 to 12 years younger than me, so I have experience teaching younger children as well. One of my sisters is special needs with autism and mild CP. I understand the difficulties children with special needs can face in school especially in math and language arts. I am currently studying at Sierra college with a major in computer science. I love teaching and learning and helping people succeed. There is no greater accomplishment than helping someone go from staring blankly at the task in front of them, to them suddenly grasping it, sharing in their success and sense of accomplishment is magical.

Alexander taught just the right amount of information in a natural way an individual student learns and he did this very well.

First lesson and off to a good start with good communication as Alex seems to have heard me and I'm ready to commit to "homework" and practice and even cutting my fingernails.

Alex is very patient and always complements the student when appropriate. Alex also puts together a lesson plan for Riley to practice for the following week. I would recommend Alex for any one interested in playing acoustic guitar

Alex was very punctual and easy-going while still being able to provide direction and professional expertise. I learned more in one lesson with him than 3 lessons at a San Jose uke school. One-on-One is definitely the way to go. Having not played my uke for 5 years, it was time to get back into it & I think Alex will be a good teacher!

He took the time to review basic guitar ownership as well as being prepared with a lesson for the day. I even played my first song. Cool!!!

Alex was a great teacher! I loved the fact that Alexander was a very punctual teacher, which is always a good thing to see from a professional. Along with his patient demeanor and thorough explanations Alex is a very laidback teacher and I really enjoyed the lessons we had with him. Alex's really knows how to be relate-able and it helps to make the learning with him that much easier.
