I'm a cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and a winner of its merit scholarship.
After performing with the New York and Royal Philharmonics, the New Jersey and Virginia Symphonies, the American Boy Choir and the internationally renowned opera star, Andrea Bocelli, studying opera and piano at Westminster Choir College and performance art and improvisational acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina, and appearing in shows and pageants across the east coast, I found my life'
I've successfully taught hundreds of different students since 2003, from 5-year-olds with special needs to middle-aged professional opera singers, from a professor in Saudi Arabia to a 65-year-old doctor of music, from kids of Radio Disney to students of the famed Actors Studio in New York, from busy stay-at-home parents to retirees with bucket lists, from CEOs to touring singer-songwriters.
I've created and led a workshop about singing called, "The Whole Body Singer". I've written dozens of articles about music and music education for the blog at TakeLessons.com.
My extensive knowledge of the voice has encouraged and empowered hundreds of singers and prepared many of them to win competitions, pageants and auditions, as well as roles in operas and musicals.
Having both taught myself piano and received formal training at a conservatory has prepared me to teach almost anyone how to play.
The intensive training and education that I received at Westminster Choir College in songwriting, music theory and sight reading has benefited my students at every level.
My current work as singer and keyboardist in the acoustic rock duo, Timberwood, has strengthened my knowledge of a broad range of styles and genres. I have a strong commitment to continuing my education. That's why I recently (2014) studied songwriting online with the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In the lessons that I teach, I'm flexible, positive and encouraging. While I want my students to have fun and love music, not dread it, I expect hard work and persistence. I am caring, patient, nurturing, and compassionate. In piano lessons, I usually allow the student to choose a piece with which to warm up and then move on to technique and repertoire. In voice lessons, I usually warm up the singer and discuss technique and sight singing before focusing on song choices. Joan Frey Boytim wrote a book for voice that I like to use, and I like the Estelle Liebling exercises for the more advanced singer. Hanon exercises are a big part of my piano curriculum, and I enjoy the Bastien and Alfred books for young and old. I have used completely random songs pulled out of a piano bench and a karaoke CD for kids. I will use almost anything I can get my hands on if it means effectively teaching music.
Acting lessons consist of exercises and games that apply learned concepts, and monologue and audition coaching. Parents, siblings and spouses are always welcome to observe lessons quietly.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises.
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

I am a director, teaching artist, producer, and sometimes actor who has lived and worked in Philadelphia for the past 15 years. I'm the Co-Artistic Director and founding member of ReVamp Collective, a Philadelphia based feminist-centric theatre company. I've taught with Walnut Street Theatre, Lantern Theater Company, Theatre Horizon, Delaware Theatre Company, and Philadelphia Theatre Company. I received her BA in Theatre from Temple University with a minor in Art History.
I've not only been an actor, but a director/producer, as someone who has been on both sides of the table I know what directors, casting directors and producers are looking for as well as knowing what it is like to audition as an actor.

Expect to be thrown out into the Improv world. I love Improv, it is one the main things I love about acting. You are able to just come up and pretend to be all kinds of people. I have been teaching acting for over 5 years now. I started off as an actress and decided I wanted to help others fulfill their dreams. I started a production company where I direct and write stage play. I mainly work with individuals with little to no training and develop them into great performers. My students love my style of teaching because I don't push in a hard way and treat them with respect. My goal is to help you or your child fulfill their dreams of acting. Improvisation is one of my absolute favorite skills to work on! I won a Governor's Award for Improvisational pairs when I was young and I really caught the bug! In these classes, I use games and activities to relieve the stress and anxiety associated with improv. By request, I can rework this class to specialize in applied improv, i.e. public speaking as well.
As a teaching artist for children I have worked with Yes! And... Collaborative Arts, ASAP Drama, Rehoboth Summer Children's Theatre, Theatre Horizon, White Pines Productions, and I even began my own curriculum at the Lansdowne YMCA. I have worked with children ages 4-18 in various classes, workshops, and performances.
As far as coaching friends and colleagues, I focus on audition monologues and fundamental acting techniques and skills.

I have been directing and teaching acting for 27 years and have worked with students of all ages, from 9 to 82, and at all levels of experience from novice to professional.
