I teach violin at the New School for Leadership and the Arts, mostly to novice players, and I have experience teaching violin to children of all ages.

My primary instrument is guitar, which I've played for about 25 years in many different bands, styles, and genres. I studied music and classical guitar at University of Central Florida, and during that time I also helped teach violin to a class of third graders. I'm not a pro violinist, but I have plenty of experience working with novice players, helping them develop proper technique, sight reading, ear training, and other skills needed to advance to the next level.

About Gio

I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums. I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is wha

Kendra had my 13 year old for about a year and a half as a complete beginner, and we'd still be with her for sure were it not for an easier alternative at a new school this Fall. Kendra has an amazing understanding of the younger student and what incentivizes them to learn and grow fast. My child practiced once a day for at least 30 minutes and in the above time is already making a lot of beautiful music. If you/yours is motivated, Special K is the way! Thnx, Kendra
Corinne
Kendra has been a joy to work with so far through virtual lessons. We are just beginning with her and we are encouraged to continue forward. She has a laser eye for technique and is warm and kind. She not only explains technical placement but she also explains the reasons why they are important. She is great with my 9 year old and really checks for understanding along the way.

Kate is an incredible teacher - I cannot recommend her highly enough. I have played violin off and on for almost 30 years, and Kate has worked carefully and thoughtfully to help me with basics that I didn't realize I could improve on that have already changed my playing for the better. Kate has a positive and encouraging approach that inspires confidence and joy in practicing. She is able to clearly break down each element of fingering, shifting, and bowing when I am having trouble. She is a gem and I am delighted to revisit my love for the violin under her guidance.

I have been beyond pleased with Kate. Her energy is calm and encouraging and allows the student to creatively discover how learning works for them. As an adult, having never played ANY instrument before, Kate has been the perfect nurturing guidance on this journey. I've also seen her perform outside of lessons and she is clearly classically trained but pushing the boundaries as an what an artist "should be" which I love as someone learning a skill, to see all perspectives. Kate is on time and professional and I have nothing but positive to say about working with her!!!
Amy
My granddaughter (age 13) has been studying violin with Kate for the past two years and I honestly felt as though we'd struck gold after the first lesson. Kate is smart, talented, patient, and an all-around lovely person who has elevated my granddaughter's music studies.

"Intro to Violin

It is a delight to have Miss Anna to be Airin's teacher. Her passion in violin is encompassing. An inspiration!

Miss Anna's teaching style is encompassing. She showed Airin the fundamentals of playing the instrument at a level that a 12-year old is inspired to play. She also showed many components needed to get involved in learning how to play the instrument - very informative.

I look forward to Airin's next lesson. Thank you, Miss Anna."

"Thanks to Jacqueline, I have been able to pick up the violin again (after not playing for many years) and build back my technique reasonably quickly. She has an expansive library of musical exercises and songs that are perfect for making your practicing more efficient and your playing sound better. Over the last two years I’ve started to see her as less of a violin teacher and more of a violin guru. I high recommend her to any new/old violin student."

"Luther loves to teach. At every lesson he is there for you, ready to help you. He has an extensive musical background, after studying violin at New England Conservatory with Meriam Fried and Donald Weilerstein, as well as performing and studying at many prestigious summer music festivals, including Ravinia’s Steans Institute, the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Taos School of Music. In addition, Luther is an excellent violist, studying with Martha Katz, also at New England Conservatory.

Luther loves to answer all of your questions. He will analyze and dissect your technical questions about how to play the violin: concerning tone, bowing, left hand issues, and how to use your arms, shoulders, back and your whole body while playing the instrument. He can help you with fingering and answer your questions about written music. He will demonstrate and help you play musically. He is able prepare you for your orchestral audition, help you learn concertos and other solo music and help you with chamber music. Thanks Luther for continuing to help me attain my dream to become an excellent violinist!"
