I specifically tailor my lessons to whatever music the student prefers. Whether it be trap, rock, latin, or jazz, I teach the rhythms and beats of the songs that the student wants to learn. This way the student can build a repertoire of songs while actively understanding how parts relate into actual music. From there we can further refine and develop different techniques in order to more quickly learn and memorize music.

Basic piano theory and song structure is also offered in order to help emphasize a full musical education in conjunction with the drums.

If a student is interested in electronic based music, techniques on creating electronic sounds from acoustic drums are emphasized and encouraged.

Warmups, drum theory and different exercises are then implemented on top of this to further develop speed, control, and technical facility of the drum set.

About Andrew

I'm a drummer with 13 years experience with 7 years of teaching experience. I earned my Bachelors in Jazz at Columbia College Chicago and spent 2 years after as a professional drummer in rock, dance, jazz and salsa bands. My hopes as a teacher is to inspire my students to want to play drums. I ra

"I have learned more with David in a month than I have in various attempts to learn the guitar on and off over the past 20 years.
He has a comprehensive approach and yet it keeps me interested and makes me really want to practice.
He is also teaching my 11 year old son and had captured his imagination too.
Furthermore he comes to our home and is a Luthier to boot! Setup both our guitars to the point where I kid you not they both sound SO much better.
I cannot recommend David highly enough."

"My son started with Mr. Gallo at the beginning of summer and we have decided to continue into the school year. He can easily read each students musical ability and creates a lesson plan accordingly. His critiques, while kindly, are thorough as he strives to get the best out of students.
My son enjoys the lessons and has improved in sound quality and technique. Web based lessons have worked out great for us as my son plays the tuba. Mr. Gallo has been flexible with the schedule which we appreciate. We highly recommend Mr. Gallo and the Take Lessons website/platform."

A Fun Blues Guitar Exercise to Get You Started

If you're familiar with blues chords and ready to start trying your hand at some riffs, this exercise from guitar teacher Samuel B. will help you get the ball rolling... As an instructor (and blues guitar afficionado), I'm keen on you developing a working knowledge of the blues. The blues is the musicological basis of all recognizable forms of American music (gospel, contemporary country, soul, rhythm & blues, bluegrass, early rock n roll, the list goes on). Therefore, said knowledge will imp …
