Book NowI began studying ear training in high school, and have taken several semesters of college-level ear training. In addition, I have studied piano at an intermediate level. Ear training is an amazing tool for improving intonation on your instrument and interpreting music in general. I have the following resources at my disposal for use in ear training lessons:
- The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis (Clendinning and Marvin)
- The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis workbook (Clendinning and Marvin)
- The Musician's Guide to Aural Skills Sight-Singing book (Murphy, Phillips, Marvin, Clendinning)
- Materials and Techniques of Post-Tonal Music (Kostka and Santa)
- Grand piano (in my College Studio and can be used online)
- Yamaha electric piano (in my Home Studio and can be used online)

I have been teaching piano almost as long as I have been performing, coming up on 10 years. I started teaching beginners when I was just a teenager, and as I learned more about pedagogy and about piano myself, I branched into teaching more advanced students. To date, I have taught lessons to over 100 different students ranging in age from 5 to 70, and ranging in skill from complete beginner to college piano performance major.
Not every student is going to think I’m the best fit for them. I expect consistent practice, completion of assignments, and attention to detail in music. I have had many trial lessons that don’t pan out because the student or parent thinks my expectations are too high for them. Make no mistake; I expect a lot, but I also care deeply about music and have great understanding and sympathy for those who genuinely try. Whether your goal is to learn to read music, improve rhythm, learn to play the great classical repertoire, or simply have a good time learning the ...

I teach:
TENOR BANJO - MANDOLIN - TENOR GUITAR - ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Please go to the instrument listing and it will explain about that particular Instrument.
Hello,
I first want to explain about the Tenor Banjo it's different from the 5 string Banjo used mostly in Bluegrass and Country.
Tenor Banjo has 4 strings, it comes in 17 fret and 19 fret and generally used in Irish/Celtic and Jazz music.
Irish /Celtic music you play single note melodies and in Jazz the majority of the time you strum.
Standard Tuning: C, G, D, A - Same as a Viola and Cello
Irish Tenor Tuning: G, D, A, E - Same as a Mandolin and Violin
Chicago Tuning: D, G, B, E - This tuning is the same as the first four strings of a guitar
The name "Tenor" has nothing to do with the pitch, I read it was a mistake somewhere in history as 4 string banjos were used in American Tango in the 20th century called Tango Banjos, then somewhere changed to Tenor through time.
I accommodate all students differently ...

Buying your first guitar and strumming your very first note can be an exciting feeling - and that's only the beginning! Pretty soon, you'll be mastering major and minor chords, impressing your friends and family with full songs and spouting off music theory. And of course, next comes venturing on stage, sold-out shows and hearing the roar of the crowd, right? Before you get too far ahead of yourself, it's important to evaluate your playing style and make sure you have good practice habits …
