Hi! I am a Juilliard-Columbia Dual Degree student offering both online and in person lessons to violinists of all skill levels! Whether you are practicing for school orchestra, just a casual violinist looking to get better, or auditioning for elite music schools, I will accommodate the intensity and difficulty my teaching to your needs. Furthermore, with over five years of teaching experience and fourteen years as a soloist/orchestral musician, I offer a vast understanding of all the musical and technical intricacies of the instrument.
My teaching style revolves on sound itself. Of course, technique and musicality are all important, but when it comes down to it, music is just the production of sound. With all my students, I always start by teaching them to interpret, analyze, and produce a beautiful sound. My job is help my students develop their own sophisticated ideas of sound and lay the fundamentals of being a violinist so that they can become beautiful and unique musicians ...

I have performed many different styles of music all over the country, from some of the largest theaters and performance areas to college recital halls. Studying the art of performing is crucial as a musician, and needs just as much attention as practicing the instrument itself. I aim to provide my students with skills to tackle stage fright and adrenaline-jitters, and to deliver the musical performance they have been practicing for.

About Emily

Woodwind instrumentalist Emily performs regularly in a range of styles including classical, jazz, rock, funk, Afrobeat, Third Stream, and musical theater. Emily holds her M.M. in Multiple Woodwind Performance from The Boston Conservatory with concentrations in saxophone, clarinet, and flute perform

I've worked with Broadway actors, amateur adults, kids of all ages and with renowned theatre companies such as TADA!, Brooklyn Children's Theatre, STEPS on Broadway and The Neighborhood Playhouse for 20 yrs, teaching students how to reach their full potential as musical theatre performers.

I teach private on-line musical theatre coaching lessons to kids, age 7 and up, and adults of any age. If you are looking for a musical theatre teacher/coach, you've come to right place! Most coaches in musical theater are primarily pianists and don't have a background in voice, acting or performing. I have a background, not only as a musical director/pianist, but as a professional singer and actor in opera and musical theatre as well as teaching music, both privately and in classes for many years.

I focus on 3 main things:
1) your voice...teaching you to sing with a well-produced, flexible, expressive and healthy tone...
2) your musicianship...sightsinging, learning to understand and ...

Lawrence is a great coach for musical theater singing. When I was in the 5th grade I had an audition for this school called ppas, which is a preforming arts school. I love musical theater and I was taking lessons in neighborhood playhouse. Lawrence was one of the vocal coaches there so my mom got him as a private coach. He was really helpful in teaching me how to sing, he picked a really good song for me and he helped me a lot. I got into the school, and I probably wouldn't have if it weren't for him. We also got him as a coach for my laguardia audition, and although my voice had changed a lot he helped pick the right song and we worked on it. He helped me get in there as well. Would defininetly reccomend.

My daughter has been taking Musical Theater with Lawrence for 7 years now. Lily has grown as a performer under his instruction. Lily describes his classes as fun, fun and fun. Lawrence is an exceptional teacher who provides his students with a supportive and collaborative environment and where he nurtures their creativity. His love of Musical Theater definitely shines through in his classes. He's great!

Lawrence Rush is an inspiring and gifted teacher. My daughter took her first musical theater class with Lawrence when she was nine years old at the renowned Neighborhood Playhouse in NYC, and she has been a dedicated student of musical theater ever since. Lawrence created an atmosphere in class that was safe, fun, and joyful, and he made the kids feel that no idea was a bad one. Among the many classes that my daughter took with Lawrence, she particularly loved the elective where her class write and acted in their own original play. Lawrence managed to lead his students through a process that was both rigorous and exhilarating, culminating in one of the high points of my daughters young life. I am also an arts educator, and I know a gem of a teacher when I see one. Lawrence is truly one of those rare teachers who leave a lasting deeply positive impact on children, and I could not recommend him more enthusiastically.

With teaching clarinet I really like to gauge where the student is at first. I like to approach my teaching and lessons around a strong fundamental understanding of the instrument. Each week will be structured with basic fundamentals, musical exercises, and genre exploration. I love showing my students what the clarinet can do and how it has been used in history and how it can be applied within modern music.

"Teresa is an excellent music teacher!
My daughter received a ukulele as a gift from her grandparents. My husband and I wanted her to take lessons, but we were hesitant. She had taken music lessons previously, with a different instructor, with little success and mostly frustration. But then we found Teresa.......
Teresa took the time to learn about my daughter's strengths and weaknesses, and planned her lessons accordingly. She utilizes several different teaching modalities into her lessons (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) with amazing results. Teresa is a truly dedicated teacher who is both knowledgeable and passionate about what she does. My daughter looks forward to each lesson!"
