I'm a specialist in Brazilian Guitar and have played and used American Folk Styles to teach finger picking for many years. This includes Travis Picking, Blues and arrangement of all sorts of melodies for guitar. One of the first world musics I played was Irish music and I have a nice repertoire of these melodies to help the student learn how to play a linear melody. Reading is not necessary but I'm expert at getting people to read by using simple familiar music.
About Billy
Billy N. has played Jazz, Brazilian and Classical music in the NYC area for the last 20 years. He has actively taught both finger-style and pick guitar for the last 20 years. He was on staff at the American Institute of Guitar for 11 years. His book on Brazilian Guitar is published by Alfred Music

Anything and everything guitar is my specialty. Classical or regular acoustic welcome. We will cover the parts of the instrument and why everything is so darn important (like how to stay in tune!).
If you plug your guitar in, we can perfect your guitar's signal flow, pedals, and amplifier settings, too!
I cover all kinds of styles, from simple note and scale picking and open chords, to pop/rock/punk/metal/blues/jazz/fingerpicking/classical and more.
Want to learn basic rhythm? lead? fast strumming? how about making those big chords without making your hands hurt? I can help! You'll be jamming along with your favorite songs and with friends in no time.
I typically will teach and write guitar using tablature instead of standard sheet music. These are a simple set of lines and numbers that are much easier to read, and once learned will instantly give you access to thousands of songs.
Also I can show you how to play with a capo or slide, fingerstyle or pick. If you ...

You can see right away, that Jimmy is excellent with kids..and my son seems to enjoy every session with him. Jimmy's coaching technique is worth a mention as well. He makes it a point to make your basics very strong, which equips the person with enough skill to actually 'create' their own music versus simply 'copying' an existing song etc. I've been thoroughly satisfied sending my son to Jimmy for guitar sessions and the result shows. I see my son now playing quite fluently...and with confidence and will try and take a shot at making the cut for his High School's music/guitar team.
Also, looking at some of the other music instruments displayed in his studio, does seem Jimmy's a very talented musician, well versed in several areas.
Finally, Jimmy's studio is one nice n cozy place, where parents can do office work, sit and stretch out, watch TV, read and doze off or simply watch their kids learn guitar. I like being there as well :).
