Christoffer S.

North Hollywood, CA

About Christoffer

Perform - Create - Build a solid foundation in music while gaining confidence, leadership, and flexibility.

*** Bio ***
I have an MFA in Music Composition and Piano Performance from California Institute of the Arts and a BA in Music Composition from UC Santa Barbara. I began piano at the age of 7 and composition at age 15. Teaching has always been important to me. I started providing lessons in high school and learned that giving musical knowledge is just as important as acquiring the skills it takes to be a musician. Studying with me will help you become a well-rounded musician with the a
bility to play the type of music you want to play.

Constantly composing, film scoring, and performing, I'm a very active musician that works with classical musicians, rock musicians, and everything in between. I teach a variety of instruments and will cater lessons to your styles and interests. I'm also a recording artist and work with music software such as Ableton Live, Native Instruments, and Sibelius. I would love to teach you how to compose and record your own music in whichever genre you prefer.

*** Lesson Details ***
Many of my students have studied music in the past, but weren't able to keep the passion. I pride myself as a very enthusiastic teacher that works hard at making lessons fun and interesting for any age and background. All of my students (from 3 years old to 60 years old) enjoy music and practice harder than ever. You will be provided with a solid foundation in theory, aural skills, technique, and creativity, giving you the ability to carve your own path in music. You will learn the correct way to play your instrument and develop the intuition to command it expressively.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My North Hollywood studio is a private garage turned into a studio. It has 2 desks, a full-size Yamaha keyboard, ukulele, accordion, didgeridoo, guitar, electric bass, chairs, music stand, laptop, and a printer.

My Mar Vista studio is a private room in a house with a semi-concert grand Steinway piano and everything else included in the North Hollywood studio.

Mike A.

North Hollywood, CA

About Mike

Hi,
My name is Mike and I originally hail from Sydney, Australia where I began playing music at a very young age. Growing up I was surrounded by a wealth of musicianship and left-wing instrumentation, which ended up playing a key role in my development as a drummer.
My goal as your teacher is to provide you with an education of MUSIC. At the end of the day, every sound we create weather it be on a a trash can or a banjo is music, hence the focus of my lessons. I love to focus on your natural ability and help you grow as fast as possible via techniques that are catered to your level of experi
ence and ability.

I began my education with my uncle, Robbie (John Zorn, Mike Patton, Oren Ambarchi), who is an acclaimed drummer and sound artist. Alongside a variety of free jazz/experimental musicians from around the world, at age 8, I performed at the famous experimental music festival What Is Music?.

At age 11 I studied with Claire Edwardes, an internationally renowned Australian classical percussionist. During this time I participated and ranked in several national classical percussion competitions. After attending one of Sydney's most prestigious performing arts schools, I was granted a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Music. I graduated with high distinctions having majored in Contemporary Performance and Jazz.

2009 saw my signing with the band Porcelain (Universal/Motown Music) and in 2010 I won the Billy Hyde Drummers Playoff in Sydney, Australia. Shortly after, I moved to Los Angeles, California.

Since the age of 15 I have been playing professionally as a multi-instrumentalist in many different genres. Artists I have worked with include; Emblem3 (SyCo Records), Scott Weiland, Troy Harley (Dream Merchant 21), Colby O' Donis (Grammy Award Winner), Rai Thistlethwayte (Thirsty Merc), Reece Mastin (X-Factor Winner - Sony Music Australia), Danielle Blakey (2011 NA2R Winner), Casey Donovan (Australian Idol winner), Amy Pearson (Sony/BMG), Renee Cassar (Island/Universal), Alamode (Jazz/Funk), Jordan Millar (Blues/Pop), Amali Ward (MusicOz Winner), KisTone (Rock), and ASA Songwriter of the year Simon Shapiro amongst others.

While traveling between Sydney and Los Angeles, I have been working on sessions with producers such as: Lindsay Rimes (Benji Madden, The McClymonts, Shannon Noll), Rudy Haeusermann (Snoop Dogg, Matchbox 20, Tina Turner, Rob Zombie), Paul David Hager (All-American Rejects, Lifehouse), Charlie Waymire (Ultimate Rhythm Studios) and John Fields (Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Switchfoot).

In addition to session work, I recently composed, recorded and produced songs for the feature films Yesterday Was a Lie and Center Stage 2 -Turn It Up, as well as a theme for Fox Sports and 2 web and U.S. national radio campaigns for Outback Steakhouse.

I am currently touring across the U.S. with Emblem 3. I'm endorsed by Ludwig Drums, Paiste Cymbals, Remo Drumheads and Vater Drumsticks.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are Fun and Laid back. I always enjoy hearing about what music you love and what makes you excited about drums. This will help to keep the lessons fun while informative at the same time. In my opinion, it is very important to make sure you don't feel as though learning drums is like homework - Its not!

I use a wide range of books and teaching techniques that have helped me over the years to reach my goal as a Touring and Recording professional. I like to treat my students with the same respect I was given and pass on the knowledge that I believed played an integral roll in my success!

Whatever your goals are, I strive to make sure you achieve them as fast as possible so you can spend less time on the practice pad and more time rocking!

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my studio: 6 x Acoustic Drum Sets - One for the student and One for me to demonstrate.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide drum pads. I would expect my students to have a drum kit and sticks or the equivalent materials.

*** Specialties ***
I am a multi-instrumentalist so I teach all aspects of music. My aim is to make sure that all students understand the concepts of music and can portray that through their instrument.

Patient, reliable, talented drummer & teacher

Mike has been our 13 year old daughters drum teacher for over a year. She went through a couple of teachers before we found mike who was able to connect with her. We thought drumming would be a great way to bolster her self esteem and work on her shyness. Mike has been an extremely patient teacher and found a away to work with her where others failed. Overall, mike is an extremely talented drummer & patient teacher who is both honest and punctual. I wish I could give more than five stars.

Michelle G.

North Hollywood, CA

About Michelle

Musician/Songwriter/Performer

Poised, energized, and armed with unforgettable performance ability, Michelle G. is a firework in the artistic arena. Her training began at the young age of 3 with the violin, and a few years later received classes for piano and voice. Excelling in all three, Michelle developed a very passionate and dramatic personality that eventually led her to more dramatic genres such as opera and stage acting. Her aptitude to understand human emotions and relationships gives her a wide spectrum to play in as an actress. There is an organic flow to her interpretations both
as an actress and musician that leads the audience to feel her emotional current. Her honest characterizations introduce deeper perspectives on what seems like the ordinary roles and storylines. Amongst the many other leads that she has played, her participation in roles like “Susanna” in The Marriage of Figaro, or “Donna Elvira” in Don Giovanni embody much vibrancy and integrity.
Through the development of her voice as a singer and actress, she has crossed over into other media such as voice over commercial work and vocals for pop/main stream music productions. She has recently participated as a vocalist and violinist in the albums of artists such as international jazz pop artist David Longoria, Latin pop singer Erick Bolivar, Grammy-nominated percussionist Souhail Kaspar, and American Idol’s Seysha. Over the last few years she has unraveled her musical skills as a songwriter/composer/arranger and has even had some small victories acquiring music placements on TV shows (NCIS, short film “Sumtin’ Like Dat”, The Dictator) for herself and some of her colleagues. Her inner brilliance is lighting a unique path before her, and she is bravely embracing each step forward in a promising creative career.

Education
Michelle completed her Associates of Arts for Music/Music Education at the age of 18, and got later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's of Arts for Musical Theater and Music Business, as well as from Florida International University with a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor my lessons to my student's needs, style, abilities, and goals. Learning is truly a fun and passionate adventure for me, and my enthusiasm has consistently been a contagious quality :) I love to challenge myself & my students to discover how immense their true potential is, and I create a safe and fun environment to explore such facets.

My curriculum is combination of solid tradition (Suzuki method for piano & violin, and Bel Canto technique for singing) interwoven with pop-culture, and modern influences. Within the first 3-6 months, my students will know the basic building blocks of music - which includes scales, arpeggios, triads, intervals, technique, and performance repertoire; and for my singers this will include proper breath technique, tone placement, support, very often increased vocal range (both high and low), and will feel significantly stronger vocally and more confident getting up to sing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full size Keyboard, mics, pro tools, Violin (electric, acoustic, and Chinese Ehru)

*** Specialties ***
Specialties include:
- Audition technique and prep
- Vocal Technique

Not only is she an amazing teacher, she is an incredible talent, and awesome person. Her relaxed and nurturing nature enables you to feel super comfortable and excited to learn. She motivates you to try your best and focuses on your strengths, while building and improving upon your weaknesses.

The guitar is the instrument with which I have developed bad habits and posture over the years, but in addition to correcting these things, I really needed help with music theory. Also, as opposed to being a kid with all the time in the world to practice and study, I'm a 40-something with a busy, full-time job in the middle of my daily life. De'Anza was flexible enough to work with these issues of mine while still keeping me focused on a positive, effective lesson plan. That is the mark of a professional. Thank you De'Anza!
