I started playing violin at 3 years old. Wichita State University gave me the opportunity to get my Music Ed degree and start teaching lessons. I have taken over 500 lessons myself and played in many heavy gigging bands playing gigs almost every weekend. Improvising, Country, Jazz, and Rock are my specialties but I have played lots of Blues, Funk, and Latin jazz as well.

About Rob

Make sure you contact me about scheduling. I have other students and a job that sometimes changes week to week. I may have other times available. Let me know.

Initially I was a complete beginner. I've been studying with Rob for a couple of months now. I think I'm making good progress and certainly a lot of that is Rob's doing. Very personable and flexible, he's really taught me a lot and is really good at teaching in a way that has me progressing steadily and not being overwhelmed by such a challenging instrument.
Jeff
great first lesson. Personable and informative.
Lin
Identified many of my errors right away, has given instruction on how to correct. Have noticed definite improvement each week, and given new skills each week to practice .(I'm not likely to pass this pattern in the near future!)

Very knowledgeable and experienced in not just playing the violin but teaching it as well.

At the age of 58 I decided to start taking violin lessons for 2 reasons, enjoyment of playing music and exercise my brain. I found Lucy K on the takelessons.com website and she was able to accommodate my request for lessons in my home on a Sunday. Starting from scratch, she taught me the fundamentals of playing and I have made some progress over the last 8 months. She is patient with me yet will push me along and at time bring me out of my comfort zone, which is good. She has the ability and training to teach students from early age to older adults like me. In addition, she also teaches piano, which my wife started lessons with Lucy K at the same time I started violin. She has my recommendation if you have interest in either violin or piano.

In my one hour of comprehensive teaching, students learn extensively the techniques of the violin, including tone production, vibrato, musicality and pieces of music which are chosen from standard violin literature or Suzuki books. The whole idea is to get students to look at the whole learning process as a fun activity, and very soon they acquire the ability to produce beautiful sounds, correct intonation and strong vibrato. In addition to the above, I conduct some some ear-training exercises to improve intonation as well.

Nader was fantastic! I took Violin lessons for a few years from a couple different teachers, and he taught me new, interesting things I'd never learned before. He's also very patient and nice.
Carolina V.
He is very patient and has excellent communication skills. I have no knowledge of how to play the violin or music of any kind. After my first lesson I strongly feel he will be my private instructor for many years to come. I left with proper technique of how this instrument is to be cared for and good posture when practicing. He also informed me of the books we will be incorporating into my lessons. Most importantly homework is given and he is very patient and explains everything at your level.

Philip is an excellent teacher and gave me very heloful pointers on my technique. I am an advanced player and have performed semi-professionally several times but hadn't learned proper technique in the past.

I plan to continue with him regularly to improve my technique and skill level.

Philip was so friendly and patient, and made my 7 year old very comfortable with her first lesson. He really knew how to speak on her level and his instruction was very positive and motivating. My daughter left the lesson very excited to start practicing what he showed her, and we can't wait till the next lesson!

Hi, I'm Elizabeth! I teach private viola, violin, and piano lessons, and I also tutor music theory and history! I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in Viola Performance from Shenandoah Conservatory, and just recently with my Master of Music degree from The Hartt School in Spring 2021. During my time at Shenandoah, I worked through the school as tutor, helping my peers through music history and theory courses. It always made me so happy seeing them improve in their classes!

I have been teaching viola, violin, and piano for four years, and it is my passion! It brings me so much joy to enrich my students' lives with music, and to watch their progress as they grow. While I don't expect the majority of my students to become professional musicians, I think it's vital that we all, as humans, learn the language of music so we can communicate and understand the world better. My biggest hope is that I make a difference in my students' lives.

"Donna came highly recommended by an employee at a nearby music store. She has been great at engaging my teenage daughter in her violin lessons - both with continuing the Suzuki program, and diversifying into fiddle music. Donna is patient and fun and seeks to lead through inspiration, which works really well for my daughter, who is talented but not particularly disciplined about practice. My daughter always looked forward to lessons with Donna - even on Saturday mornings! When we moved to online lessons because of the Covid stay-at-home order, Donna kept the lessons interesting and they have had a nice rapport. Donna has a way of fitting a lot of instruction into a lesson without it feeling boring or labored. She's really helped my daughter appreciate music, not just play the violin."

"Our 11 year old daughter, Drew, started with Cristina for a little over a year, and has made some amazing progress from not knowing how to play, to having great intonation and musicality. Cristina teaches our daughter in a way that works with her interests and learning style, rather than having a regimented curriculum. I think this has allowed Drew to be way more excited about playing.

i've been playing music all my life but since i'm a square parent, it's hard for me to teach drew :) Cristina does a great job giving her guidance during the lesson.
i would highly recommend her as a teacher!"
