My love of singing began in my freshman year of high school, when I joined the choir. It was a life-changing experience, and inspired me to make music my career. I participated in several musicals during high school, and also began taking private voice lessons. I became a voice teacher myself by 2005. Though I've always loved musical theater, it was during my first few years of college that I really started learning more about the genre. I attended every musical I could, listened to original cast recordings during my commute, and sang, studied, and accompanied many, many musical theater pieces. These days, I'm happy to get to sing pieces like Popular and This is the Moment with the Saint Louis Harmony Chorus, one of the top 25 women's barbershop choruses in the world. I am on the music faculty of the chorus, and am also the baritone section leader. I also sing in an award-winning barbershop quartet called Executive Sweets. We have a three-song set from Wicked in our current ...

My 6th grader has been taking piano lessons with Carolyn for almost 3 years now. She has been so patient with him, yet encourages and most especially challenges him to be better each week! He looks forward to his lesson with her, and the recitals have increased his confidence as well as his pride in his accomplishments!! Thank you Carolyn!!

My Grandson has taken lessons from Carolyn for a few years. He is 11. He has done very well with her. She knows her stuff and is very encouraging to him. She has recitals every 6 months and he has really advanced. I would highly recommend her.

Three of our children have taken piano lessons from Carolyn. Our oldest son, who has graduated from college, still plays daily. Our other two sons are current students; both began lessons in early grade school.

Mrs. Calahan is patient, kind, and affectionate with her students. She shows a keen interest in encouraging them to succeed, while tolerating their occasional quirks. Our kids have had the opportunity to play classical pieces, jazz, ragtime, show tunes, and popular music. Their piano playing abilities have progressed steadily under Mrs. Calahan's instruction and her unintimidating approach has allowed them to develop an ever-increasing appreciation for music. We are lucky to have found her!

I have taught musical theatre performance for Orlando Repertory Theatre, Missoula Children's Theatre, Oregon Children's Theatre, and Central Florida Community Arts. Let me help you find your sound and make sure you can continue to sing that way for the rest of your life.

About Jason

Ever since Alyssa was 8 years old, she has had a passion for music. Currently Alyssa is minoring in General Music Studies at SDSU. For 2 years she studied under classical guitarist Sean Basset at San Diego State University. She also studied under Dr. Bryan Bozenthel, a classical voice teacher. This allowed Alyssa to deeply expand her knowledge on proper techniques for voice and guitar which also allowed her to incorporate these techniques into everyday playing and singing.

Each students lessons will be catered and approached differently based on the students individual goals. Typically, I give students some exercises to help improve techniques and also allow them to pick repertoire they would like to work on. I encourage each student to try and apply some music theory to each repertories or songs they take on. I highly encourage that each student also practice sight reading with their instruments. It is important for a student to develop the ability to read music as well as train ...

"Ariel is a great teacher. He is patient and he encouraged in a great way. I am very happy and your school should be very proud to count with such a great teacher. I am a true beginner and he gave me vocal and breathing exercises that will hopefully lead me to tune and sing. I am a teacher of English and my goal is not to perform . However I realized that singing is a very relaxing and therapeutic hobby. thanks a lot!!"

"Melanie is an absolutely incredible vocal teacher/coach. I noticed a change in my voice after just the first lesson. Her vast knowledge of the anatomy used to create vocal sounds combined with the techniques she teaches has definitely improved my voice. She taught me how to belt and showed me the difference between my belt and my mix, which was beyond helpful. She also taught me how to sing in my head voice in a healthier and more effective way. And on top of that, she has a mental library full of great song recommendations for my individual voice. Can't wait until our next lesson!"

"Annie is DONE and went well! We were all so impressed by Eliza’s confidence and grace under pressure (she handled a couple prop mishaps without missing a cue!) and can’t thank you enough for working with her on the Annie songs. She had a mic on so it was a good thing she was already really comfortable with the songs as they didn’t get to practice with the mic until the dress rehearsal right before the show. Only 3 (her, Annie and Tessie) of the 10 orphans on stage were mic-ed, so we could really hear her. The time and money we spent with you was sooooo worth it. Thanks for being such an amazing singing teacher!"
