I have been teaching piano for over thirty years, both in my home and in Catholic After School Programs. I teach both Beginning and Intermediate students.
I use Michael Aaron Adult Piano Book Grade 1, Michael Aaron Piano Coarse Grade 1 for Theory, Technic, Lessons and Performance books. I also use Music Ace Deluxe as a review on their computer. This is a lot of fun for all my students.
I will go as fast or as slow as the student needs me to go. I tailor make the lessons to my students.
About Kathy

Piano: All students start out learning both Treble and Bass Clefs, and their lines and spaces. Each student then starts to learn their major scales with both right and left hand for piano. They also learn the note values, and are able to put them together in a song. I use Michael Aaron curriculum, which takes in all of the above and their technique lessons. I use all the Michael Aaron Book One, Lessons, Theory, Technic, and Performance Books for any student that is age 6 and above and I would ask that parents would buy them from Anderson Music in Dearborn, Michigan as well as any other lesson books listed below before they come to my home for lessons.
Cello: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, the students learn the bass clef, lines and spaces, scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.I have played cello in the Waterford New Horizons Concert Band for over six years. I have also been the only cellist they have as a member of the band.
Violin: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, students will learn lines and spaces of the treble clef, note values, major scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.
Drums: Using Rockin’ Rhythm Raps, and using drum pads instead of drums, students will learn the correct way to hold drum sticks and the rhythms of all the notes in the treble and bass clefs. They will also learn songs to play.

I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com

I love the piano, outside of singing, playing the organ, it is my favorite instrument. I began the study of the instrument at age six, so I strive to have the student bond with this instrument. It is a reflection of one's soul. I teach note and rote, along with ear training. Rhythm is an integral part of my piano methodology. A student will usually see results within the first six months!
About Cheryl
accompanist and musician in the greater metropolitan Detroit area. I have earned several degrees,
which include a Bachelor of Music Performance in Organ and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and
Music both from Wayne State University. My studies included wonderful instructors. I have studied
extensively with Albert Fillmore for ten years, Mischa Kottler for four years and Robert Conway for
five years. The last two instructors were from Wayne State and also played with the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra. I have studied organ with Ray Ferguson who played with DSO as well and I have studied
voice with Marjorie Gordon, coloratura soprano.
With over 30 years of experience as professional musician, I am confident that I possess the
qualifications needed to make a difference and an impact i
Most of my career tenure has been with the Detroit Public Schools. I have worked at various
levels in Pre-K – 12 schools but the longest has been twelve years at Cody High School. I have
enjoyed coaching the students and working with the music staff at the Cody Complex. These students
are very talented and eager to express their creativity and musical ability. I am a seasoned musician
with sight reading, transposing and improvisational skills. I used these skills to work with children
and young adults in small groups, larger groups and individual coaching in preparation for festivals
competitions and auditions.
I would like to continue providing this service to the young people within the Greater Metro
Detroit Area. Music is an important part of youth development in math and English. It also helps to
produce character and leaderships skills of discipline, teamwork, commitment and pride. I've also done the same for my private piano students, in studio as well as in a corporate setting.

I am a diligent instructor that possesses intuitive goals, almost from the first few lessons! I am always encouraging, and give modest yet helpful criticism. I insist on teaching and developing the fundamentals in private study, ie, standard concepts and music theory. In three months time, the student will know whether we are a good fit, whether or not they like my instruction, and discover their unique abilities as a result of my facilitation!
*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have an acoustic piano, or a full-sized weighted keyboard, if not full-sized, then a keyboard consisting of 76 working keys!
*** Specialties ***
I am a classically trained musician. I am also a church musician. My other styles do include pop, jazz, oldies, gospel and contemporary christian music. I start with the basics before moving to any other styles of music.

Music study helps people young and old to overcome shyness and build confidence. It empowers them as they refine their special talents.
We will study ear training .
My Method: Listen, Sing, Clap, Play, Read and Write. With these tools you can look deeper into the elements that make up music.
Children don't learn to read before they can talk. So why should anyone have to try to read before they can play?
That is how music is taught, traditionally and why a huge percentage of students just quit or have a miserable time with piano lessons. Music should be fun. Period.
We will always have a lot of fun, but there is a lot to do, so we need to be efficient and not waste t

I am very easy to get along with during lessons, however I can provide extra encouragement and motivation the student needs based on their specific goals for taking lessons, whether it be for personal enjoyment or for the purpose of making music their career. I believe that learning music can be fun even as a serious venture, and therefore I incorporate humor when appropriate. The curriculum I use includes: "Berklee, Mel Bay, and Hal Leonard" methods for guitar. For Piano I use "Schaum and Thompson" piano methods as well as Hannon for technique. Additionally, I invite students to suggest personal favorite songs of interest of their choosing as a motivational tool to aid them learning from the music that inspires them. I find this very helpful for students in developing a good ear as well as sparking motivation to practice as they learn from their favorite musical artists in addition to learning the fundamentals of the instrument.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide music method books/sheet music etc. Students would need to own and bring their own instrument to lessons. I also provide guitar amplification.

I️ teach from books that give students a strong foundation in music theory and sight-reading. I️ also use computer software to create/edit sheet music that students request.
About Chenyu
Every 8-10 months, I host recitals for my students to perform in front of family and friends. Parents loved the previous recitals from May 2016, January 2017, and October 2017. This gives students the opportunity to display their talents and hard work in a formal setting. Recitals are optional, for all instruments, and will be held at the Piano Place in Troy.
I have a strict 24-hour notice for cancellations. The one exception where you do not have to pay the late-cancel lesson fee is inclement weather conditions.

If you cannot read music but would like to learn how to play the piano, I teach beginning adults and children how to understand the fundamentals of reading music and play the piano. If you would like to learn how to improvise, I also teach adults the basics of music theory so you can play any song that you like "by ear," adding chords to support the melody. Having the ability to sit at the piano and play any song that you know is a lot of fun and not that difficult to do.
About Helen
You will learn how to make a beautiful sound when you sing and work on presentation, acting, diction, style, and artistry choosing music that you like and building a repertoire of music that you will enjoy singing.
Training for beginning voice students is significantly different than it is for those who have had training. Some have beautiful natural voices but they strain to hit the high note, Exercises build breath support and slowly increase the range but music is carefully chosen to help you sing with ease build a stronger more re
Some children also have beautiful natural voices, but they are not ready for the kind of voice training that is appropriate for an adult. A child's voice is small in every sense of the word. They cannot produce the volume or range that an adult can without straining their voice. They can learn the fundamentals of music, how to read music, how to count, rhythm and musicality. The music chosen for them needs to be easy to sing and age-appropriate Songs that a child likes that are too high can easily be re-arranged in a different key so they can sing music that they like without straining their voice.
If you are considering voice lessons for you or your child, it is a good way to develop musicianship and build a repertoire of music that you will enjoy singing. The training will be enjoyable and very effective. You will begin to see an improvement in technique after the first lesson.
I was trained in voice performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music and hold a degree from Case Western Reserve University where in art and music theory. I have more than twenty years of professional experience including singing with a Chorale that performed with the Cleveland Symphony and performances as a soloist for choirs in Ohio and Michigan.
I founded and directed the Academie des Beaux-Arts, a performing arts school in Birmingham, and the Actors Alliance Theatre, a professional theater company that gave many young people an opportunity to gain experience working with professional actors. I have a combination of skills in voice and theater performance that sets me apart as a teacher who can help you develop a better singing voice and learn how to perform with artistry.
