Tin Whistle:
The tin whistle, also called the penny whistle or pemperin English flageolet, Scottish penny whistle, tin flageolet, Irish whistle, Belfast Hornpipe, feadóg stáin and Clarke London Flageole, is a simple, six-holed woodwind instrument. It is a type of fipple flute, putting it in the same class as the recorder, Native American flute, and other woodwind instruments that meet such criteria. A tin whistle player is called a tin whistler or simply a whistler. The tin whistle is closely associated with Celtic music. Let me help you learn the basics of breathing, notes, rhythms, songs and improvisation.

Have you ever wanted to learn to play the lively jigs of Irish music or the haunting slow airs? I can teach you to learn the basics of this amazing instrument and move you on to special techniques in breath control and articulation. Irish/Celtic music is one of my favorite styles of music, but the pennywhistle can also play other well know tunes.
Lessons will aim to give the student the musical foundation and tools they need to explore this amazing instrument. Focus on many style of music and an aim to work toward playing the student's favorites songs will be a primary goal in addition to having a lot of fun! :)

I learned to play traditional Irish music during my guitar studies at UCF. I also learned to play bodhran and tin whistle, both of which I"m happy to teach to the novice player.

Often looked at as an instrument for children, the tin whistle is actually a wonderful fun instrument to play! Whether a jig, reel, hornpipe or slow-air, the tin whistle fits into any Celtic ensemble! I can teach you the basics, and when you're ready we can learn more complex tunes and traditional Irish ornamentation as well!
