"Athena has a good ear for good voice instruction
One of my girls takes singing lessons with Athena. She LOVES Athena. All 4 of our girls also take piano
lessons with Athena. It is not easy to find a teacher that teaches Piano and Voice/Singing lessons. We are so lucky to have Athena. She brings so much positiveness to my daughter during her singing lesson. My daughter is really enjoying learning to sing.
Thank you Steve at Take Lessons for your help...such a kind and considerate person who really enjoys helping!! You helped make this whole thing happen for us :)"

"My son started lessons when he was 8 on acoustic guitar. I randomly chose a teacher and was hoping for a teacher who could be patient yet firm and be able
to inspire my son. Mr Carter is the best teacher I could have asked for - he is all that and more. Quite often, I listen to the teacher and student conversation with admiration as they are discussing ideas and Mr. Carter's openness to receiving ideas on a tune or what Ashwin wants to learn. The frank and open discussion results in motivating the young student as they feel a sense of importance and builds confidence (sometimes too much!). At the same time, when the situation calls for it, Mr. Carter is firm and points out when Ashwin hasn't practiced or not done well and that pushes him to do better. I look forward to many years ahead."

My son wants to play trumpet in the jazz band at school so he asked for lessons over the summer. Iâm so glad we found Jordan. He welcom
ed us right in and worked so well from that first moment. My son is a bit shy, so Iâm so grateful that he found learning from Jordan so easy. In fact, every time he came out of a lesson, he asked for more lessons! The feedback from Jordan has been nicely detailed so we know where he is improving, where to focus his practice sessions (and reminding him to practice), and giving suggestions of music to listen to, to make him notice that the learning isnât just practicing, but listening as well. Jordan clearly knows and practices what he teaches. My son also mentioned that he really appreciates the times when Jordan plays along with him during the practice. Thanks Jordan!"

knowledgeable and darn good drummer !!! Matt is extremely patient, positive, reliable, FUN and a skilled drummer to boot. My son states, "Matt explains things clearly" . I would highly recommend him."

I have been a professional musician and teacher all my adult life. Music is my passion and has always been how I make a living. I teach piano/keyboards, guitar, voice, bass and ukulele. I studied classical piano at SUNY at Buffalo and I initially learned to play guitar and singing on my own. Years later I studied voice and guitar with great professional instructors. I am familiar with different ways of learning music: from very structured and traditional methods (that we use in classical music) to more improvisational and "by ear" approaches as we often do in popular music. This helps me tailo
r my music teaching specifically to each student based on his/her musical preferences, abilities and learning style. I can teach all styles of music including: Pop, Rock, Blues, Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, many different Latin styles including Salsa, Bolero and Bossa Nova. I have performed all over the US and toured many countries including Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, England and France. I have recorded more than 100 CDs for many artists (as well as my own original music) as a pianist/keyboardist, singer, guitarist and music producer. I have won many awards including most recently the Best Blues Band award as the pianist, guitarist and singer for the Lionel Young Band at the International Blues Challenge (the largest competition of blues bands in the world). I have taught music through my whole career. Many of my students have gone on to study music as a career and have become successful professional musicians. I am very comfortable teaching all levels from professional musicians to very beginners at any age. I currently lead and perform with my group. We perform concerts, private events and some club work. My life as a professional musician has given me a lot of knowledge to share with my students.
*** Lesson Details *** I adjust my approach based on what you want to learn, always with an emphasis on learning as much as possible while making the lessons fun and enjoyable. If you are a beginning piano/keyboard or guitar student I can teach you the basics of how to read music and how to play chords in the first few months and then we can decide whether you are interested in playing written music or more improvisational styles. I use different method books depending on the student and sometimes I use just my teaching materials if you are only interested in improvisational styles like Rock or Blues guitar or piano (for example). If you are a voice student, I teach with a combination of learning songs you like and using a CD/MP3s of vocal exercises that help develop good vocal technique. Whatever your instrument and musical preference you can be sure we'll have fun and you'll be making music from the very start!
*** Studio Equipment *** I have a Yamaha upright piano and keyboards. I have acoustic and electric guitars, bass and amps. I have Shure Sm-58 mics to teach microphone technique with.
*** Travel Equipment *** Student must have his/her own instrument and metronome (or equivalent) must purchase course book(s) if needed..
*** Specialties *** I teach different styles depending on the students goals. I can teach a traditional classical style for those interested in classical music and I can teach more practical approaches for popular music such as learning by chords (for instrumental students- not voice obviously) and learning improvisation through scales, arpeggios and music theory.

Ricardo is very talented, knowledgeable and an excellent instructor. My son was 5 years old when we started with him. My son is now playing the piano well and really enjoys his lesson. I would definitely recommend him.
Susan April 9, 2016
Ricardo is the BEST, he is very talented, he got the ears to hear small detailed nuances of a song's tone, he can catch any small mistake in a music play. Best musician I have ever met. He is an expert as well as teaches piano (classical and contemporary), keyboard, guitar (acoustic, electric and bass), voice, song writing, and band assembly. He is every creative and most importantly, he knows how to teach. Should listen to his CD, its amazing!!! He played almost all of the instruments. Highly recommended.
Teaching has become a pleasant endeavor that I do with high ethical standards. I am committed to the cause of music, and to the timeless fellowship of the human spirit!
I play Piano or Guitar when accompanying my students. Please bring your songs!

Andrea is a very patient and easy to work with instructor!
For as long as I can remember, music has played a large part in my life. By the age ten, I already knew that music would be more than just a hobby for me, it would become my career. I have been singing for over 20 years, and began playing piano when I was eight years old. I received a BS in music industry studies with an emphasis on business, from the University of Colorado Denver in 2008. I have extensive experience in performance and the music industry as a business, and have had the pleasure of experiencing the local music scene first hand while playing in bands. My years of experience enab
les my students to learn different aspects of music from the fundamentals, to writing, and even the music industry as a business. Students should expect to quickly grasp the basic skills such as proper breathing and posture, and will start singing or playing right away. I truly enjoy sharing my love of music and the industry with my students.
*** Lesson Details *** Music lessons should be fun but educational. I want to know what your goals are and what you would like to get out of your lessons. Each lesson will be tailored to your specific goals and situation, so that you can get the most out of our time together. Whether music is a hobby, a career path, or something in between, you can expect to learn what interests you most. We can focus strictly on your instrument, or even go beyond and talk about song writing, or the music industry.
*** Studio Equipment *** Separate room w/ piano w/seating for parents
*** Specialties *** Singing- I specialize in the pop and rock genres, as well as show tunes.

Adriane has been working with my son on the piano for about 2 months. She has a great way with kids to get them to learn what she is teaching them, but not to get overwhelmed. We have really enjoyed our time with Adriane and look forward to learning more about the piano.

He is very easy to learn from and thorough. He was able to help my kids out. Recommend!

I whole-heartedly recommend Ryan as a private instructor. My middle school-aged son had enjoyed learning to play saxophone in his school band, but towards the end of his 1st year was getting bored by the slow pace. After beginning lessons w Ryan (through the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music) his interest, enthusiasm & skill improved dramatically & he began to excel as a musician. Ryan was soon guiding him through more complicated compositions, and the joy of playing was evident every time my son picked up his sax. With Ryan’s training, he learned to prepare for auditions, and as a result has won a seat (and solos!) in several State & city select bands, jazz ensembles and every group his school has to offer.
Ryan’s personality was a great fit for my son. He’s very professional, while being completely approachable, patient & encouraging, and his love of music is passed along to his students. His versatility & broad knowledge of musical genres allow him to introduce new directions for his students to explore. With Ryan, my son studied classical compositions and also deepened his interest in Jazz. The chance to work with Ryan on his improv skills was very valuable to him...it brought a new level of confidence & comfort to his playing.
I would recommend Ryan to anyone looking for a private music instructor, either for themselves or for their son or daughter!

My daughter's school has had 2 band directors in as many years. And while the new director is good, I didn't think he had time for individual students when starting this new job. He was busy with marching band, concert band, jazz band, pep band, concerts, etc. My daughter was frustrated and ready to quit music (band). I choose Ryan to tutor my daughter one-on-one. I'm so glad I did. After only a few months now, but her skills have greatly increased. She shows more knowledge, confidence, and ability than after a whole year of school band! She knows scales and can play songs that her band hasn't started yet. In less than 4 months, she went from barely playing scales and a couple songs to playing almost anything in her music book. She now gets straight A's in band and loves to play. Ryan is very skilled at teaching many instruments. He knows how to explain concepts at the students' level, and makes lessons fun. I would highly recommend hiring Ryan to teach your child.
