*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are geared towards a set of goals that are created between the student's wants and my expectations for them to be successful at what the student wants to achieve. For each student, I use a different set of pedagogical tools designed to get them to the goals they want. The main goal I have for all my students is that their fundamentals on their instrument will be at the level that they can complete their goals with ease. Over their time with me, they will have the skills to coach themselves when they practice and tackle any music they come across.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect them to provide and music stand and their music. These are both things that they need to have at their home for practice.

*** Specialties ***
I teach and perform both jazz and classical music. Almost any style that uses a trombone or brass instruments, I have performed in and have a strong foundation in.

Thanks so much! We are here on vacation and appreciate the availability of Bill. My daughter has a region audition when we get back home and she needed help with her scales.

Calvin G.

Broomfield, CO

About Calvin

As a classical trained violist with orchestral, chamber, and solo performance experience, my teaching style is geared towards performance and expression. I don't adhere to any one book of teaching, adjusting my teaching to the unique needs of each student. My teachers came from different pedagogical backgrounds; as a result, I have a wide array of teaching tools available to pass on to my students. I have taught with the Longy School of Music's El Sistema program and had a Teaching Artist residence with Cambridge Public Schools. I hold a BM in Viola performance from the Lamont School of Music
and a MM in Viola Performance from the Longy School of Music.

I have played viola since I first began my musical studies at age 9. As a result, I have seen teachers hold viola students back, simply because they play the "lesser" instrument in the viola family. I do not hold my students back and I hold them all to the same high level of playing, regardless of which instrument they play.

I had a great experience with Ben teaching me the very beginnings of basic guitar. I'm a mom from Lafayette, CO who plays piano and wants to pick up just the basics of guitar. Ben was very patient with me and also flexible about his approach. He knew right away how to teach me the basics. He is a creative soul and fantastic player himself which is inspiring to be around. I learned more in a few lessons about theory (which I love and asked for) and some basic playing than I expected. I know he can teach all the way to more advanced playing for those who would want it!
