About Jesus
Jesus has more than 15 years experience teaching piano and 5 years teaching the Suzuki piano method, with dozens of his students playing successfully in recitals, competitions, and auditions around the Chicago area.

He completed his Masters of Music in Piano Performance with a scholarship from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Il. Renowned Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio and Dr. Ludmila Lazard were his advisers and professors. In addition, during his program at Roosevelt University, Jesus took a course aimed at developing figure base and harpsichord performance with Dr. David Schrader.

In 2012 he was certified piano Suzuki teacher by the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Jesus performs solo recitals and lieder by Rachmaninoff, Shubert, and Schumann with his wife the soprano Darina Assenova in festivals such as “Shuberti
ade”, which is organized by Pianoforte Foundation in Chicago and Make Music Chicago.

He often performs in Cultural Festivals in Mexico and United States and has performed with major orchestras as a soloist and as accompanist.

All his piano students are active as performers. Jesus always encourages them to perform in public, looking for piano festivals, competitions, recitals, auditions and any opportunities where they can showcase their talent. His students have been accepted in pre-college music schools in Chicago.

*** Lesson Details ***
I focus on the basic piano technique skills when I start with a new student, it includes good posture of the body, good hand shape, firm fingertips, loose arm weight, good position of each finger, and flexible wrist. I always look for a rich tone production when playing each key of the keyboard in order to create a beautiful musical discourse throughout the piano piece.

When the student is from 3 to 6 years old I use the Suzuki method. When the student is older than 6 I combine the traditional and Suzuki method having great results with the student's performances.

My Philosophy: All my students learn to play piano in an artistry, confident, and joyful way.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in living room with upright piano, couches, bookshelves, etc. Parents can sit in on lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide copies of some piano works. But I also expect my students to buy their own books and have their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
For beginners, I use either the Faber or Thomson method. I can teach the Suzuki method too. I specialize in Classical music, but I can also teach pop music for piano.

My girls started taking lessons from Mr. Garcia at age 4. He is an excellent instructor and keeps lessons and weekly practice assignments fun and challenging. He uses a combination of methods to best suit the interests of each of my daughters. They really look forward to their weekly lessons. I have seen significant progress in their piano skills. Mr, Garcia is very good at acknowledging their accomplishments which is extremely important for young, beginning piano players. I highly recommend him.

About James
Early Guitar Studies & Pit Orchestra Performances (1995-2002)

I began taking guitar lessons at the age of 11 with blues/jazz guitarist Tom Castonzo, a frequent performer, bandleader and teacher in and around the Chicago area. My studies with Tom lasted for many years and covered various musical and technical aspects of many different styles ranging from jazz to classical and everything in between. In 2002, I began performing in pit orchestras for various musicals including Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserable, The Wiz, Little Shop of Horrors, and Seussical the Musical.

Original Music Projects (2003-Present)

From 2003-2008, I wrote and performed music for 2 different progressive rock bands: Dream Haven and The Unit Theory. Dream Haven released the EP entitled “Nostalgia is Five Frame” and The Unit Theory released a ful
l-length album entitled “Seed.” Both bands performed all over the greater Chicago-land area and helped me hone my skills as an electric guitarist. Throughout this time, we shared the stage with national touring & recording acts Fear Factory, Mastodon, Enuff Z’nuff, and Algernon, to name a few. I now play lead guitar in the Chicago-based alternative rock band Davenport Ed and am having started an all-instrumental acoustic/rock trio with two percussionists.

Undergraduate Studies (College of Dupage and Northern Illinois University: 2002-2008)

After high school, I attended the College of Dupage (COD) and began studying jazz guitar with Dr. Zvonimir Tot. Towards the end of my studies at COD, I developed an interest in classical guitar and took lessons from Steve Ramsdell. After I received my Associate’s Degree in Music from COD I started teaching private guitar lessons at various suburban Chicagoland locations. I graduated from COD in 2004 with an Associate in Music degree. In the fall of 2005, I started my Bachelor’s studies in Classical Guitar Performance at Northern Illinois University (NIU) with Fareed Haque (Winner of “Best World Guitarist” in Guitar Magazine). While at NIU, I continued to teach & perform up until I graduated in May 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance.

Graduate Studies (New England Conservatory of Music: 2008-2010)

I started my graduate studies in August 2008 at the New England Conservatory of Music (NEC) in Boston, under the tutelage of world-renowned guitarist Eliot Fisk. As an active performer in the greater Boston area, I made it a goal to bring the classical guitar to unorthodox venues such as senior centers, local TV, hospitals, dialysis treatment centers, and even juvenile halls! While at NEC, I started to take an interest in transcription, which is the art of adapting a composition for a voice or instrument other than the original. Eliot Fisk is a master at this, and his guidance was profound. In June 2010, I graduated from NEC with a Master’s in Music (with Academic Honors) for Classical Guitar Performance. My master's recital was a tour-de-force of virtuosic classical, acoustic, and electric guitar pieces with music ranging from J.S. Bach to Joaquin Rodrigo to Steve Vai.

Flamenco Guitar & Ritmo Flamenco (2009-Present)

During my time at NEC, I was fortunate enough to meet Grisha Goryachev, a master flamenco guitarist. Grisha introduced me to the basic principals of flamenco guitar and proved to be a wonderful resource. I continue my flamenco guitar studies by learning historical flamenco recordings entirely by ear. Short of living in Spain for extended periods of time, I have found this to be the purest way of learning. I am now the flamenco guitarist for Ritmo Flamenco, an ensemble that features dancer Diane Campbell.

Professional Musician & Awards (2010 – Present)

I moved back to Chicago in July 2010 and have since had hundreds of performances that include weddings, corporate events, restaurants, recitals, and more. My reputation as a premiere performing guitarist has grown rapidly in the past 2 years, and I earned 2 awards at the end of 2012: “Top Solo Guitarist” on the world’s largest entertainment site which is Gig Master and “Best of Wedding” (the world’s largest wedding-planning site). I am a regular featured performing artist at premiere restaurants in the Chicago suburbs including The Cellar Bistro in Wheaton, Eddie Merlot’s in Warrenville, and Wildwood Steakhouse in Geneva.

***Teaching students ages 10+***

My first goal as an instructor is to get an idea of what the student's goals are as a guitarist, and then we start working towards that goal. This means that while the basic concepts are covered (chords, some sight-reading in most cases, scales, etc), no student curriculum is exactly the same. After a few months of studying with me, no matter what style of music, we will have learned notes, chords, and songs that are of interest to the student. Then, we will discuss how all of those elements tie together and map out a practice routine. A goal I have for every student is to create a realistic, efficient, and enjoyable practice routine that produces results.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, guitars (acoustic, electric, classical), cable/amp, appropriate paper materials & books for learning music.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not travel to lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical, rock, pop, & music theory.

About Daniel
Daniel, a former faculty member of Columbia College in Chicago, is a studio and live performance singer and musician based in Chicago. His teaching and performing experience spans three decades, and includes expertise in the studies of voice, guitar, piano, bass, drums, and trumpet, along with music theory, arranging, and composing. He is a Lincoln Academy Student Laureate who holds a BA in Music Composition, and has attended graduate courses in education at Roosevelt University and DePaul University in Chicago. He has taught students of all ages at private studios, public school, and college.

Daniel is described by his students as a natural teacher. He prefers to be regarded as an advancing student, and takes the journey along with his students to guide them towards their goals with a friendly, positive, efficient and productive appro
ach. He feels that music is within all of us, and a desire to learn is a sign of talent, so anyone can develop their musical abilities with methodical practice.

The musical journey for Daniel began at an early age with trumpet and piano studies which became a passion for him by the age of 14. He was the drum major of the high school marching band, and successfully completed a paid contract to arrange music for the high school jazz band which performed in a state beauty pageant. He began teaching privately after high school, and continued playing in bands, and composing original music. He formed a professional jazz ensemble under the name of the Chicago Jazz Players by the age of 22, and developed his arranging techniques while having it performed by an eighteen piece orchestra consisting of many great local artists. It was in this environment that he gained experience with brass, woodwinds, and rhythm instruments. He was granted a position at Columbia College as an instructor at age 29 where he taught theory, sight singing, musicianship, ear training, harmony, orchestration, and composition. He scored the music for several plays, and conducted his own pieces with Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera Players. During those years he found himself playing the guitar and singing more than anything else. It was in 1995 that he focused on singing and playing the guitar with his rock band. He has produced several CD recordings of his original music in his own studio, and has helped produce local bands and artists. He performs regularly in the Chicago area.

*** Lesson Details ***
Daniel exhibits patience and care with each student, and develops an individualized approach based on clear goals with practical procedures. Most beginners can expect to have a working knowledge of music notation and how it applies to their instrument within three months, and should be developing fluency in performing music that they enjoy within six months. Advancing students will enjoy the rewards that will follow by studying with an experienced teaching musician that will recognize strengths and weaknesses, and recommend proven techniques for personal musical development. Studying music should be fun, fulfilling, and in harmony with the needs and desires of the student, and this is key to the philosophy held by Daniel.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Eight track recording gear; grand piano; guitars/bass (acoustic & electric); cables/amps, drum kit and percussion.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide lesson materials, and always have a metronome with me. I expect the student to have an instrument. I prefer that a student has a music stand.

*** Specialties ***
Customized approach to the individual based on needs and goals.

Knowledgeable about many areas of music (teaches many instruments). Very professional. Treats my child with respect and is good about focusing on the fundamentals of good playing so as not to develop bad habits which become harder to correct if not corrected early on. Gives my child suggestions and practice homework to improve techniques and proficiency.

Daniel is a natural teacher and inspires his students to share his love for music. He has a lot of experience and is patient with learners of all abilities. I have had 3 lessons with him so far and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I am new to singing but learned piano when I was younger so I am not entirely new to music. He has helped me expand my horizons and believe in what I can do with my voice. During class, we cover music theory as well as the actual singing part. Progress will go faster if you study the theory on your own (he provides you with all the materials you need to learn) and come prepared.

I have at least a little experience in everything performance related. You name it - chances are I've done it! The two areas I have the most experience teaching though are acting / audition coaching (I've been teaching this on and off for over 10 years), and vocal coaching / singing lessons. While I am a highly trained singer that can sing anything from Pop, to Broadway to Opera - I am NOT the best accompanist. As long as you are fine working on songs with a pre-recorded accompaniment track, or acapella - I'm the teacher for you! I'm also a former cast member of Walt Disney World and am a skilled puppeteer. I'm a funny / nerdy / silly teacher, so all levels of students will feel welcome. I look forward to teaching you!

About Alessandra
Alessandra Odazaki, born in São Paulo, Brazil, is an active performer and piano teacher. She first began taking piano lessons at age 5 while living in Japan and continued to take lessons after moving to Brazil at age 9. She first received a diploma from São Paulo Municipal Theater Conservatory of Music where she studied with Scheilla Glaser for 11 years. She also holds a BM in Piano Performance from São Paulo State University where studied piano with Dr. Claudio Richerme.

Her interest in teaching piano began when she was sixteen years old. Since then, Miss Odazaki has had experience with students ages 6 to 80 years old. Several of her students have won awards and have been admitted into the top Brazilian conservatory (São Paulo State Music School and São Paulo Municipal Theater Conservatory of Music). Her most recent accomplishment has b
een coaching a handful of American students to winning the Illinois Grade School Music Association State & Solo Ensemble Contest. All students are held to high standards and given unique attention and curricula.

From 2009 to 2015, Miss Odazaki worked for the social project: "Projeto Guri Santa Marcelina" where she has taught theory classes and served as a vocal staff accompanist. This is a social project that aims to improve the lives of impoverished Brazilian children through music education. She was also a staff member of Yamaha Music School (the first school of its kind in Brazil), where she organized and instructed piano lessons and Junior Music Courses. Here she received training from official Yamaha instructors from Japan.

Miss Odazaki has been an active participant in master-classes with several renowned pianists such as Olga Kiun (Russia-Brazil), Ronan O'Hara (England), Piotr Banasik (Poland), Caio Pagano (Brazil-USA), Flavio Varani (Brazil-USA), Maciej Pikulski (Poland), Frank Braley (France) and Marcos Fregnani (Brazil-Germany).

She believes that a good teacher is also a good performer who never stops seeking and practicing. Because of that, she decided to move to the United States to pursue her MM in Piano Performance at Southern Illinois University and studied with Dr. Junghwa Lee.

During her first semester she was the winner of the concerto competition “Stars of Altgeld”. This gave her the opportunity to perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto N. 20 in D minor, K. 466. as a soloist with the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra.

One only needs to hear him play to realize what talent he possesses. He is very encouraging and motivated to help beginners, young and old, master the sax. Trained at the Oberlin Conservatory, with years of performance history, I felt that I was studying with one of best teachers, at such a reasonable rate.

I took lessons with Max in the summer of 2014 and 2015 and learning and hanging from Max has been one of the main reasons I decided to dedicate my life to working on music. He challenged me with life and music concepts that have been a big part of my life. Max was extremely committed to our lessons. For example, I would pick a transcription for both of us to learn and we would play it together and he would help me with certain rough spots, break it down and talk about the history. I've never had a teacher do that for me before. Max gave me essential information in a very open and informative way and was very down to earth and friendly in the way he taught. I flourish when the people I study with are open to work on what interests me and give me essential things to work on that I haven't been thinking about. If I wanted to work on Katy Perry songs, he would take me seriously and do whatever he could to help me play Katy Perry songs. Too often teachers assume I know things, but he was very thorough and made sure I had everything I needed. Max showed up on time to every lesson and was the type of teacher that was so invested in helping me that he wouldn't be looking at the clock every five minutes. My brother was on the ultimate frisbee team at my high school as a freshman when Max was a Senior. My brother told me that Max was a role model and inspired him to be on the ultimate frisbee team at his college. That makes two of us. Max was one of the key people in my high school years who inspired me to pursue my passion. Studying with Max has made me a deeper, more creative, and more down to earth person and musician.
