Frustrated by the physicality of the flugelhorn and looking to experience true freedom on the instrument?

I can help! Flugelhorn is consanguinous with trumpet for jazz players, so I am equally adept at both. In addition, you will be provided with a strong background in sight reading, technique, ear training, music theory, and improvisation while studying with me. I can't wait to help you with your goals, both long-term and short-term!

About Matthew

I'm a multi-instrumentalist and composer with two degrees earned concurrently from Indiana University--one a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of Arts and Sciences, the other a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the internationally renowned Jacobs School of Music. Upon arriving

I teach lessons to any grade/age group. I have an extremely open mind to teaching and music in general, so nothing goes out the door in terms of philosophy, however, I've come to realize that some methods work better than others. That said, I tailor my attention and focus as an educator to the needs of student I'm teaching in front of me. I don't consider the student who just walked out of the lesson or the student who is coming in next. I put my all in the student who is in front of me because I believe time is an essential asset to lessons. Also, every case is so uniquely different in terms of students and I take a good amount of time to calibrate the learning style of every student.

About Matt

I am passionate instructor who is fueled by seeing success in others. No other feeling is more fulfilling then seeing the growth of another human. I have been teaching private lessons in my own studio for about 8 years now. I've taught 7 marching bands and currently writing music for some with an

I am passionate helping everyone meet their goals when it comes to playing guitar. You don’t need to know more than a few chords to play most hits, to have fun playing with others, or to write your own songs. I want my students to be able to learn what they care about learning.

Do you need to lead an ensemble soon? Do you have a bit of stage fright? Wondering how to lead a rehearsal?

You have made your way to the right place!

My conducting experience:
Middle school band
High school band and orchestra
Middle and high school instrument sectionals
Collegiate choir
Small ensemble
Collegiate band

I have studied conducting with Georgia's Dr. Cynthia Johnston Turner, Dr. Jaclyn Hartenberger, Dr. Michael Robinson, Brett Bawcum, and Dr. Laura Moates Stanley.

In my beginner conducting lessons, I will take you through the basics of clear patterns. Once you feel confident, we will add expression and cues to your pattern. From there, we will discuss rehearsal techniques and specific pieces of repertoire.

I will give you plenty of experience leading mock rehearsals in a safe environment. Just as in any lesson I teach, I will tend to your individual needs and goals all while having a lot of fun.

I am excited to work with you!

"Blake deserves more than 5 stars, like 19 stars or more!! We drive an hour to get to Blake because it's worth the investment to learn from the best. Yes, we drive an hour up to SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK, because it is worth it!!

Besides Blake makes lessons so affordable, it only makes sense to get the BEST instruction for WAY more reasonable rates!! If we had kids, they would all go to Blake, because it is so important to TRUST your instructor, and it is a blessing to have someone with CHARACTER (moral/ethical) that you can trust with your child - he is a husband and father of SEVEN kids, so of course it just MAKES SENSE to send your kids here, he just knows what he is doing, thank goodness!!

Also, it is so EASY to have a 'one-stop-shopping' experience here. We do guitar, voice lessons, piano, ensemble work, etc. etc. etc. If your kid turns out to be totally GENIUS and starts writing his or her own songs, Blake actually has a RECORDING STUDIO right here, so you won't ever have the headache of trying to find someone else (who would probably be not as good and way more expensive anyway).

Yay, Blake!! We both agree he really cares about his students and wants to make an investment in their growth. If you are serious about wanting to learn music and are committed to practicing, you will have fun and learn a TON with Blake. Just go for it because it is so worth it!

Sometimes you just stumble across a blessing and have to thank your lucky stars that it's a complete no-brainer. If you have been one of the blessed ones that is stumbling upon this by 'accident,' believe us... it is no accident. God has just smiled down upon you... so thank Him, be grateful and sign up for classes before they are all full!! Your kids will thank you and think you are the BEST PARENT EVER!!"

"Before deciding to do my vocal lessons online I searched through many of the teachers on the database and I came across Ms. Cyndi's page - I was impressed with her qualifications and accomplishments but what won me over were the students' reviews. The one review that stood out was a student saying that as soon as he/she selected Ms. Cyndi as their teacher and Ms. Cyndi was notified she immediately called them to introduce herself. I remember saying wow now that's great but I also thought that was just for that one student but I still admired that she did that. So I read the other reviews that really showed Ms. Cyndi was not only a great teacher but a teacher that made sure each of her students received her undivided attention and each student's lesson was made personally for them. So I spoke with my husband and children about Ms. Cyndi and I called takelessons and they agreed that Ms. Cyndi would be a great fit for me. As soon as I paid for my lessons and hung up with takelessons I would say 1 minute later EXACTLY one minute later - my phone starts to ring - I didn't recognize the number but I just had to see who was calling me from Washington and it was Ms. Cyndi. I was super impressed!! Our discussion was encouraging and it was great and she made me feel EXCITED about starting my first lesson with her. So far I only had two lessons with Ms. Cyndi and I can tell you this - I would recommend her to anyone and everyone. Thank you Ms. Cyndi for ALL of your encouragement and for your patience. Best regards."

How to Play Ukulele in Different Genres

Want to learn to play ukulele in different styles and genres? Here, ukulele teacher Michael L. explains how you can get the most out of your ukulele and learn to play new songs and chords... What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the ukulele? Is it of someone playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"? Or a singer/songwriter playing a soft ballad? Something like the volcano love song in the Pixar short film? I'm here to tell you that the ukulele can do so much more than tha …
