My promise to students--if they follow my advice, they will be successful! Cello lessons with me are informative, productive, and geared toward empowering the student's knowledge of the cello. I also encourage students when faced with a problem to slow down, think about what they are doing physically and change their approach if needed.

About Dessislava

I am a professional cellist who has been teaching and freelancing for more than twenty years. I graduated from Michigan State University with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Cello Performance. I currently teach privately in Chicago and the suburbs over fifteen students with ages ranging from 5

I believe in the importance of music in a persons life - both young and those more experienced in years. :-D

Music should enhance ones life and bring joy to others. It should be fun!

I work with students of varying ages. I will collaborate with you to begin an enjoyable hobby or prepare for college repertory. From music theory, to reading leadsheets, and composing basic tunes.

Please feel free to contact me and ask any questions regarding my pedagogy and we can discuss realistic expectations and short/long term goals. We can tailor the lessons to fit YOUR specific desired outcomes.

I want you to succeed and have fun in the process.

If we can schedule to meet in Wicker Park, we will have access to an 8 1/2 foot concert grand.

I normally suggest children 14 and under (depending on how comfortable they are) do 30 minute lessons.

Adults and those 16+, I strongly suggest, do an hour lesson (to get the most out of the pedagogy)

I am also flexible doing lessons ...

Piccolo is recommended for students with previous flute experience, at a minimum intermediate level. We can do independent piccolo lessons, or incorporate into a flute lesson. Many students choose to do lessons in a mixed format, with the first half on flute and the second half focused on piccolo.

About Megan

I have a background in classical symphony and wind ensemble music. I have played the flute and piccolo for 17 years, graduated from the Visual and Performing Arts Academy out of Elgin IL in 2007 and received the Arion award for musicianship. I LOVE playing the euphonium, both on my own and with other musicians. I especially enjoy playing duets with students and colleagues, and I play in a tuba quartet with some friends. I am also part of a community band and a local brass quintet, plus occasionally I play with other musicians in a brass ensemble in my church. I have been a music teacher for over 30 years, and I've worked with students from the first time they picked up an instrument through college seniors. I believe it's important to learn well from a great teacher, work hard and LOVE what you do! I look forward to getting to know you.

About Tim

I have been studying and playing music since I discovered as a young child that I really enjoyed making music, all kinds of music. I played piano first, and studied throughout high school, and I also began exploring my voice and singing in numerous groups in and out of school. I began playing an in

"Our teenage son connected with Jered right away, and it was an excellent first lesson. Aaparrently our son learned so much more in one private face to face lesson than online classes he's been doing for a month. ( This isn't online private/group lesson, it's a class with video lectures and exercises). Would definitely continue."

"Vanessa deserves more than I could describe:
She is such a sweet teacher who feels easy to teach you at the right level. With great understanding, warm passion, and sufficient knowledge, she’s just made me more and more confident!
I enjoyed every lesson she gave. Time went by without knowing since I was absolutely attracted by her every instruction and demonstration! I’m probably the oldest student, over 70, a total beginner,. Yet, this is no problem to her at all!
Vanessa makes me think of the popular saying: “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. “
Dear teacher Vanessa has certainly inspired me a great deal!

"Micheal is an excellent musician and an excellent teacher. He is enthusiastic, encouraging, flexible, and versatile. He has a pleasant sense of humor, a friendly and relaxed demeanor, and a deep love for music. While Micheal knows a great deal about music theory, he also knows all about the reality of playing music live. He will teach you to play, and he will take the time to teach you the theory, if you want to know. He will guide you with care, reveal the subtleties of the instrument and it's music, and will make sure you get it right. Michael works well with children and adults. Not only do I take lessons from him, but have sent other members of my family to him, as well."
