My approach to teaching is to combine fundamentals with “adventure.” I encourage students to experiment with their instrument and have quite a few budding composers. No two students learn in the same way, so
My teaching environment is very laid back. I expect my students to practice, but I don’t read them the riot act if they show up to a lesson not having practiced much the week before. I encourage them to practice more the next week and I give them strategies for how to fit practice time into their schedule along with the most efficient way to practice their pieces.
I encourage parents to sit in on their child’s lesson, but I don’t require it. The more a parent is informed about their child’s goals, the better they are able to assist, support and facilitate the student’s practice. Involved parents contribute greatly to a child’s success.
I love teaching adults too! It is never too late to learn an instrument and the rewards carry over into all aspects of life. As with children, music makes us all smarter. Research proves this. We learn complicated spacial and math skills without even realizing it; we’re having too much fun!
I have annual recitals for private students. I speak Spanish.

Sometimes music. I can refer students to instrument rental or purchase places, but do not have instruments to provide. I can obtain music for the students if they prefer, otherwise I will tell them what and where to buy.
*** Specialties ***
I use Suzuki and other books for material, but my teaching is more traditional. I use actual bowhold from start. My own invention - pinky AND thumb houses. Music reading is introduced fairly early. A little at a time and it's painless.

He's been a recording and nationally touring musician for almost two decades, and holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from North Central College. Aside from being an educator for the last 18 years, he currently enjoys freelancing professionally with various groups, songwriters, and producers in and around Chicago and abroad.
Students can expect to focus heavily on fundamental drumming techniques, successful practice methods, as well as listening exercises that are all included in the lesson experience. Above all, learning HOW to practice on the instrument is the main goal th

Some of the musical styles I regularly teach: Rock, Hard Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul, R&B, Classical.
He taught me how to read music, and always wrote out practice drills which really helped me in learning the overall lessons. Eric is extremely perceptive, and can immediately recognize what his students do well and wrong. By isolating specific parts of the lesson that causes difficulty, Eric creates drills that make learning the new part easier and more fun.
He will also play the part for you to give you an idea of how it should sound.
Because of Eric, I have learned numerous styles of drumming and the principles behind them.
Eric is a cool guy with an easy going personality, but he will always challenge you to do your best.
I strongly recommend him to anyone interested in learning how to play the drums.

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I played piano professionally for weddings, shows, and musicals. I have led worship for many churches in Michigan and Connecticut. During my time at Yale, I was president of an organization called Yale Musical Cure, in which I played piano at hospitals, hospices, and benefit concerts. At Yale, I also gained teaching experience, and have loved teaching students ever since.
My teaching style varies from student to student. Music is a wonderfully diverse subject and every student has his own aspirations. I
Lessons will vary significantly from student to student. Not only does every student have different goals in mind, they all learn differently as well. I do my best to customize my lessons for each student's goals and needs. A typical piano lesson may involve music-reading, chord studies, technical work, scale practice, theory, and of course learning songs!
I am a flexible teacher and am excited to teach students to truly understand music and enjoy playing the piano. Please reach out if you have any questions or interest in taking lessons.
Teaching is one of my favorite parts of being involved in music. I love being able to share the joy of making music with my students. During lessons, we will work on all skills needed to be successful on the clarinet. This includes: reading music, having a good embouchure, correct hand position, proper breathing and air usage, good technique, and much more.

My bands perform all kinds of music: classical, pop, funk, jazz, hip hop. I teach both elementary and high school students, so I'm current on most all of musical trends at the moment.
I have performed in collegiate marching bands, collegiate wind symphonies, and community orchestras in the Chicago area. My students have been accepted into All-City ensembles and University music programs.
