About Tracy
I have been teaching individual and group lessons for 12+ years. Many of my students have won trophies at the Granquist music competition and also play in local youth orchestras. My own youth string ensemble plays publicly at many popular local venues several times a year. I enjoy exposing my students to the finer points of being a professional musician such as the camaraderie, team work, creativity (creating harmonies, tailoring arrangements to fit student’s level) and of course, stage presence. I am very proud of my students. It is so gratifying to see their confidence build with each new skill they master.

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching is to combine fundamentals with “adventure.” I encourage students to experiment with their instrument and have quite a few budding composers. No two students learn in the same way, so
I don’t use the same strategy for each individual. I believe music should be fun and rewarding. I like to expose students to many different types of music, i.e.; jazz, pop, blues, folk and of course, classical. Students are more likely to practice music that speaks to their personality.

My teaching environment is very laid back. I expect my students to practice, but I don’t read them the riot act if they show up to a lesson not having practiced much the week before. I encourage them to practice more the next week and I give them strategies for how to fit practice time into their schedule along with the most efficient way to practice their pieces.

I encourage parents to sit in on their child’s lesson, but I don’t require it. The more a parent is informed about their child’s goals, the better they are able to assist, support and facilitate the student’s practice. Involved parents contribute greatly to a child’s success.

I love teaching adults too! It is never too late to learn an instrument and the rewards carry over into all aspects of life. As with children, music makes us all smarter. Research proves this. We learn complicated spacial and math skills without even realizing it; we’re having too much fun!

I have annual recitals for private students. I speak Spanish.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Basement studio finished and separate from house

*** Travel Equipment ***
Sometimes music. I can refer students to instrument rental or purchase places, but do not have instruments to provide. I can obtain music for the students if they prefer, otherwise I will tell them what and where to buy.

*** Specialties ***
I use Suzuki and other books for material, but my teaching is more traditional. I use actual bowhold from start. My own invention - pinky AND thumb houses. Music reading is introduced fairly early. A little at a time and it's painless.

I’m an adult with a fair amount of previous musical experience but absolutely none with a stringed instrument. Tracy’s approach for that kind of beginner is ideal. She is firm about establishing sound fundamental technique from day 1 and building on it with practice pieces that provide just the right amount of challenge. She is encouraging and phenomenally patient. If technique problems or incipient bad habits arise as more complicated material is taken on, she is all over them and always has corrective measures to pull out of her (extensive) bag of teaching tricks. I would recommend her to anyone interested in learning a new instrument.

About Wendy
I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. I also instruct workshops for vocal technique and performance. For 10 years I was the lead singer for The Red Apples, an acoustic/electric roots band that performed an eclectic mix of rock, swing, blues, country and jazz. Within the past year I have re-energized my theater and cabaret career, appearing at Davenport's Cabaret, in a new solo show, as well as productions at Big Noise Theater and Stage 773. I've also completed tw
o short films and started working on my own web series, about my life as a singer/voice teacher. I also have an art song project consisting of original material with composer Jaroslaw Golembiowski. As a singer and actress I have performed with many major theaters in the Chicago area, including Court Theater, Victory Gardens, National Jewish Theater, Bailiwick Theater, and Prop Theater.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing.
My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.

I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio space is fully equipped with a piano, P.A. system with microphones, CD, MP3 player for tracks, and ability to record lessons if the student desires.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please have a piano (in tune!) or keyboard for use in your in home lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained, but I am very adept at teaching music in a wide variety of styles, including most contemporary styles of music including pop/rock, roots, swing, jazz and blues, country, r&b, and of course musical theater and cabaret. My band performs an eclectic mix of originals and covers in the roots rock genre, and I write music as well. I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. I have a workshop that specializes in helping people learn to perform better in front of an audience, and I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, which is a supportive opportunity to perform regularly! I also coach bands, to improve their vocals, harmonies, etc.

About Jennifer
Hi, my name is Jenny, and I am a Chicago-based flutist and teacher. It's nice to "meet" you! :)

Your first trial lesson is free. I have a variety of flexible times available to suit your busy schedule and budget. I also provide in-home lessons, in order to make music more accessible to all families. I offer lessons at my studio in West Town for a reduced rate. I have a flexible make-up lesson policy - you'll always get what you pay for. I also strive to give each student their full time, even with a late arrival. Additionally, I provide consultations for choosing the flute, and often travel with my students to find the right instrument. I also offer assistance in preparing young students for school band and orchestra.

I have been told that my teaching style is fun, personalized, and demanding, while my personality is easy-going and
friendly. :) I truly want to meet the needs of each student and parent - and teach to the personality of each student. I seek to empower my students to make their own choices and keep mutual communication open and constructive with parents.

In lessons, my students play duets and solos from all eras of music, work on having great flute technique, and learn to express themselves through music.

Every year, we have a Spring recital and a handful of low key studio gatherings, so family, students, and friends can enjoy celebrating our achievements in music.

Many of my students in the past have won local festival competitions, have been featured in solo performances, and have continued to play flute for years.

I currently hold a Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University. I have experience teaching large classrooms, small sectionals, and private lessons, and have worked with over 400 students in the past 8 years. Additionally, I occasionally play flute and piccolo in Chicago City-Wide Orchestra. I also enjoy improvisation and experimental music. At the beginning of the school year, you can find me teaching flute clinics at school music programs throughout Chicago.

Come grow and learn, love music, and flute on!

------
Why do I love teaching?

Teaching is very rewarding for me. I love helping people reach their goals. I enjoy supporting local music businesses and education programs, and I'm happy to lend a hand to anyone who needs assistance. Each time I give to the music community, I feel supported in turn. For me, teaching is all about building relationships, friendships, and a community around music lovers in Chicago.

---

Thanks so much for visiting my profile! Flute on!

Sincerely,
Jenny

I worked with Jenny at After School Learning Tree in 2014 and 2015. She was my colleague and assistant at my flute studio. Throughout our time teaching together, I saw her display so much care and attention to detail in each lesson. She was always giving me new ideas. The families at our studio invest a lot in the education of their kids, and after a while people were raving to me about her coaching and instruction. Jenny has a world-class training, yet she is so down to earth. She really cares about the students and wants to connect with them on an individual level. I was blown away by her skill as a teacher, and I saw so much improvement in each student’s playing after every lesson. I would HIGHLY recommend people to study with her.

Part of my responsibility as manager of La Jolla Music is to seek out the best teachers for our lesson studio. Granted, defining “best” is as subjective as one can get when choosing a music teacher, but I naturally felt comfortable with Ms. Jenny during a part of the interview which involved her patiently teaching me how to blow into a flute headjoint.

The way she encourages and empathizes with students are assets that allow her students to have fun with the learning process and grow musically. Students and parents would regularly express enjoyment of their lessons directly to me, which further demonstrated her love and commitment as a music educator. Most importantly, Ms. Jennifer enjoys children and brings delightful excitement to each lesson. They are engaged because of her connection to each individual, regardless of age or level. I am grateful for Ms. Jennifer to have guided our students musically during her time in San Diego.

About Britta
My name is Britta, and I love piano and teaching! Music has brought great joy to my life, and it all started with the piano. I am eager to share that joy and power with you.

I started playing piano before I can remember and began lessons at age 5. I studied under my phenomenal teacher in Minnesota until I moved away when I was 18. I continued playing duets and quartets at her studio anytime I was back in Minnesota. I spent a few years living abroad and at college in Chicago. I taught first graders for a year at LEARN Excel Charter School in Chicago. Now I’ve relocated to Round Lake Beach, where I have a beautiful 80-year-old baby grand piano and a peaceful in-home studio.

When it comes to music, I think it's important to stay relaxed, push yourself, and have fun. Learning to play an instrument like the piano can be a very rich and
transformative experience for anyone. Whatever it is you're looking for in learning piano, I'm eager to help and share the gifts my teacher gave me.

Lana has proven to be a wonderful teacher over the past couple of months since I have been using her. I have a demanding sales job in Florida that requires me to travel by car all of the time. Basically living out of hotel rooms a couple months out of the year, I have not been able to continue my hobbies so easily especially playing the piano. After having a dinner conversation with a co-worker, he mentioned to me that I take online piano classes. He knew of Lana through a relative that recently had a recital that he attended and was impressed with their progress. Sounded like a great idea. I reached out to Lana, put the keyboard in the trunk of the car, and the rest was history! I was a little hesitant of taking online instruction at first but it really has allowed me to continue my hobbies on the road and greater flexibility when I am home as well. The quality of the video streaming works well and I really enjoy the instruction that Lana has provided for me. She seemed to understand my pace of learning and had me fine tuning some technical issues that I was having. I am extremely satisfied with her services and look forward to our instructional sessions. I would definitely recommend her to anyone interested in taking piano lessons online or in person.

I am learning to play classical, popular, holiday classics and looking forward to learning blues and jazz! My THANKS to Lana, who is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher, as well as an accomplished and gifted musician. She knows how to make learning fun.

I'm a first time piano student at a ripe golden age that thought I wouldn't have to learn to read notes...haha! I was apprehensive about taking piano lessons at this stage of life. Lana is the best...she is patient, challenging, supportive, and makes learning fun. She starts you off with songs you enjoy playing and builds to a variety. I've only been playing for a short time and I already have a great mix of popular songs and now moving into classical. She even made learning notes fun with an app she found. You learn and play at your own pace. I've seen her interact with young and old and am impressed with her aptitude of working with each person at their unique skill level. I love learning piano from Lana and I would recommend her to people and children of all ages.

I am a professional opera singer and voice teacher. I graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance.

Voice students can expect to find a solid foundation in vocal technique from lessons each week. They also will find a foundation in music theory and sight singing which I believe are incredibly important to developing well-rounded musicianship. Singing should also be fun! I believe that together, we can find music that is enjoyable for you to perform and that will help create a life-long love of singing.

My personal passion is classical music and musical theatre but I strongly believe that healthy technique is critical for every type of singer. I look forward to meeting you!
