About Daniel
In addition to teaching music, I have also worked as a special education assistant and wrestling/track coach at Lake Zurich Middle School South and an assistant Kung Fu/Tai Chi instructor at Green Mountain Arts in Logan Square, Chicago, Illinois. Jazz piano, Voice, and Composition are my main areas of expertise. However, I have also been recording, and playing guitar almost my entire life. I fully believe in music education not only for entertainment and personal enjoyment, but for many other means.
Beyond its capacity for being used as entertainment, music aids in learning, helps develop advanced motor skills, increases memory function, and many other purposes for a well rounded education. It is my goal to help educate the next generation in traditional music practices as well as incorporate new techniques that are relevant to our
current day and age.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lesson plans vary from person to person. I always make it a point to get to know the student's existing musical knowledge, goals, and background before I create a personalized lesson plan. All important concepts are covered as they are needed so students can understand theoretical concepts based upon actual application and usage. In short, I teach in a way that students can "dig in" right away and play, create, improvise, sing and/or compose freely and naturally. I always encourage students or parents to contact me with their goals, previous musical training, etc., and discuss what they really want out of lessons so they can get the most out of taking me on as an instructor.

Daniel adapted throughout the course of the hour-long lesson to understand what I already knew and find appropriate ways to fill in the gaps of my knowledge. He also started me on the process of learning a new approach when looking at and learning to play new music pieces.

About Matthew
Matthew N. has been an educator and performer in the Chicago area and suburbs for over 10 years. Currently holding a studio of nearly 30 students he has become one of the area's many successful private instructors. Teaching piano, drums, and guitar Matthew can accommodate any student's needs and musical ambitions in those areas.

Matthew has studied at the collegiate level at the University of Iowa and holds a Bachelors in Percussion Performance. He has also been performing professionally at many of Chicago's finest venues for many years. Matthew is an audio engineer certified in Pro Tools and Logic Pro, which are industry standard programs. e their passion with family and friends as they create music.

Students are encouraged to pursue whatever moves them and are never restricted to any one type of practicing or playing. The main goal is to allow the student to find his or her own path in music and develop their own abilities in whatever way they see fit.

Students will have full access during lesson time to recording equipment. The best way to learn how to improve is to listen to yourself play. The student will be able to take home recordings of themselves and study what they can work on, helping them to make the decision on what they would like to improve on.

Students are encouraged to use Alfreds Method Books for Snare and Drum Set, Riley Books, and the Chester book for independence. Also, I teach the Faber Piano Adventures Series. Alfred's and Hal Leonard for guitar.

A cancellation 24hrs in advance is always appreciated.

About Peter
I've been playing jazz professionally in the Chicago area since 1979. I have loved the sound of the piano since hearing it on jazz records as a teenager. I grew up in Michigan and after spending a year at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, I started playing in jazz clubs around Lansing. Since coming to Chicago, I've played in all its major clubs including the Jazz Showcase, the Green Mill, Pops for Champagne, Leslee's, Green Dolphin Street, Pete Miller's, Rick's Cafe Americain, and others. I recently released my first CD, which includes two of my own jazz compositions.

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching is based on my experience as a performer. Performance, to me, is basically communicating. The performer has something he or she wants to get across to a listener. To communicate musically you don't have to be a geni
us or virtuoso, though you do need some basic skills. I can help you figure out what you have to say at the keyboard and how to say it. If we're studying jazz, I can help with improvising or deciding which chords to play. If it's classical music, we can discover pieces that fit your talents as well as pieces that challenge you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio- Lessons in large room with grand piano, electronic keyboard, sheet music collection, record player

*** Travel Equipment ***
If it is their home, a piano should be on the premises. I am often happy to provide lead sheets if, for example, we are working within the standard jazz repertory.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz, and teach mostly adults. I teach all styles of jazz piano including boogie-woogie and other older styles, though my main focus is on modern jazz.

Excellent

Peter is the best teacher I have ever had--far better than my past piano teacher and my flute teacher. He is insightful, brilliant in his teaching style as well as his knowledge. He, also, teaches me music theory. He guides me in my lessons. He is generous with his knowledge and he is personable as well. He is kind and he knows my own limitations, and is a very sensitive person.

About Britta
My name is Britta, and I love piano and teaching! Music has brought great joy to my life, and it all started with the piano. I am eager to share that joy and power with you.

I started playing piano before I can remember and began lessons at age 5. I studied under my phenomenal teacher in Minnesota until I moved away when I was 18. I continued playing duets and quartets at her studio anytime I was back in Minnesota. I spent a few years living abroad and at college in Chicago. I taught first graders for a year at LEARN Excel Charter School in Chicago. Now I’ve relocated to Round Lake Beach, where I have a beautiful 80-year-old baby grand piano and a peaceful in-home studio.

When it comes to music, I think it's important to stay relaxed, push yourself, and have fun. Learning to play an instrument like the piano can be a very rich and
transformative experience for anyone. Whatever it is you're looking for in learning piano, I'm eager to help and share the gifts my teacher gave me.

I am a classically trained opera singer with a 15 year background studying voice and performing on stage. I have experience with a variety of styles: classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, and rock. I am currently a member of improv-opera group Forte Chicago, which works to debunk the stereotypes of opera as an art form.

I began teaching beginner voice lessons a year ago and I would like to continue building my experience. My past and current voice students ranged in age from 16-23. In addition, I taught skiing for 3 years specializing in children age 5-12.

I started playing piano at 5 years old and consider myself proficient, however, we may use recorded accompaniment (karaoke tracks, piano tracks, etc) depending on the needs of your lesson.

I have extensive knowledge of music education techniques, music history, and theory. I
am also proficient in Italian, French, German, Spanish, and Latin. My many years or professional chorus work and time as a section leader also contribute to my ability as a teacher and singer.

I teach lessons out of my Ukranian Villiage apartment and I can also do house calls anywhere in the city of Chicago.

I have a very friendly Siberian Husky, Lando who will be present at your lesson. Depending on your comfort level with dogs, please let me know if you would like me to put him in another room during the lesson. He usually sits on the couch or floor to listen.
