I first started learning German due to a serendipitous move to Oklahoma following my junior year of high school. I have since really grown to love the German language and ended up getting a BA in German Studies (jointly with a BA in Spanish). I really love German literature, whether it's Goethe or Michael Ende, and I really enjoy Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Händel, and also Lieder (Shubert's "Erlkönig" being my favorite). I am also a huge fan of Die Prinzen. I consider myself an expert in grammar-related topics (including verb conjugation, cases, Konjunktiv I and II, etc.) but am also willing to teach vocabulary, pronunciation, and other topics.

About Paul

I hail from Walla Walla, Washington, home of the "famous" sweet onions. I can't begin to express how much I love languages!! I have studied 8 so far (Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, and Dutch) and I teach 5 (Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Japanese), and

My first tutoring experience took place in first grade when I was asked to assist a newly arrived Vietnamese girl with her English. I myself had learned English when I first came to the United States at three years of age and could relate well to some of the issues the newcomer was facing. A tr

My emphasis is on a dialogue-driven and comparative introduction for the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study.

I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Creative Support, Berlitz Languages, and Tutor Doctor.

I grew up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma, and I completed German credits at the college level.

I have experience teaching German literature, elementary German, and German grammar. I lived in Germany for over 18 years. Possibly the only dedicated PhD for E-Learning on the TakeLessons server, I am member of the Association for Language Learning, located in ...

Among the accent reduction teachers that I had before, Erol is the only one who actually could find the problems in my accent! The program he uses is very useful. The way he explains things or exaggerates the mistakes will help me to correct my accent. Overall, an awesome experience and I would totally recommend him to anyone.

"Verena was great! I really enjoyed my lessons with her. I thought it was going to be really difficult to pick up the language but she made it easy and fun! I’m traveling to Germany for work a lot and wanted to improve my basic conversational skills. I’ve already put my new skills to work with my German collogues over the phone. Not only was I able to understand a lot more of what they were saying but I could actually respond in full sentences. And I’m using my translation app much less now. One of my German collogues actually complemented me on my German pronunciation ! The German lessons were well worth the investment."
