I was born into a musical family and have studied classical piano since I was 4 years old! I am very well versed in music theory and proper technique, with an emphasis on avoiding player's injuries, as well as a great knowledge of classical Pieces for any skill level.
Alas!
As a young teenager I grew rebellious and learned how to play the electric guitar and have since sought teachers outside my family to learn modern styles and 5 other instruments!! I have also worked toward a music degree and have made music the center of my life.
Classical music is not everyone's passion but a good practice routine, attitude and environment is always a good thing to ha

Lessons are held with a fun and relaxed attitude. Learning music should always be enjoyable and a good attitude and love for music is cultured and encouraged.
Lessons are structured just like a practice session should be. We will begin with a warm-up exercise designed to acquaint you with the proper technique to meet your personal musical goals. the next activities are highly personalized, but is usually something like reading music or a music theory game. These activities are things that are good for you but may not be your favorite part of learning music. They will, however, go a long way toward your better understanding of how your favorite music is structured.
Examples could be learning about 12 bar blues, common strum patterns (for guitar), scales, sight-reading, or music analysis.
We will spend the rest of class learning and practicing an activity of your choice. This is usually a song but can be anything you wish to improve upon. this is usually a long-term goal of yours. *I've always wanted to learn......*
By structuring our lessons the same as how you will practice, and by keeping good notes, it will be easy for you to take on practice at home and achieve all of your musical goals!

When I began college I decided to study business. I auditioned for choir and realized that my dream was to become a music educator. I graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. I studied piano, voice, clarinet, and music education. I had a lot of experience playing the piano and singing that I decided to learn the clarinet and join the concert band so I could have band experience. I was also involved in hand bell choir and continued to perform with the choir after I graduated. After graduating, I taught piano at various private eleme

Lessons are tailored to each individual student's needs. I think everyone is special and has their own unique way of learning and customized lessons should reflect that. I believe that music theory is important and I include that in lessons. For piano lessons I mainly use Alfred's piano books. In each lesson I will demonstrate the necessary skills in order for the students to feel comfortable in taking the music home to practice. For voice lessons I include vocalizations, vocal technique, and song study.
I want students to have fun with music. I am very patient and I think it's important to encourage and praise students. I hope to instill the desire to learn in each student.

My philosophy is to push you to exceed your expectations and reach your goals while still having fun. I will push you, but gently and show you a lot of effective ways of practicing so that you achieve more in less time. I am big on technique and really believe in the importance of developing a solid technique, which I will help you to acquire.
A strong technique will give you the tools you need to play whatever you want skillfully. With a commanding technique you will be able to focus on making beautiful music.
Are you a singer? Develop your piano/keyboard skills and you can learn to accompany yourself.
I generally divide the lesson into three sections:
Tech
Repertoire
Music Theory
I feel it is important to bring all of these elements into all areas of music education, particularly performance.
What is most important is that you are enjoying your music educational experience. Looking forward to your lessons, enjoying your practice time and having a sense of accomplishment. I will push you to exceed your own expectations but you will set the pace as well as determine what music you desire to play.

Before Ms. Jamila was my piano teacher, I had little interest in the piano. My other teacher gave me boring, easy songs, which didn't help. After that, I despised the piano, and thought I never would play it. Then, Ms. Jamila came along. Unlike my other teacher, she asked my interests and what song I really liked. Now, I don't know how I ever hated it. I believe I will go far with her as my teacher. She posts articles on her blog and her website which deepens my understanding of music. I would reccomend her to anyone, because on a scale of 1 to 10, she's infinity!

My lessons will be rhythmically exciting, and never boring. I always have book lessons as well as personal musical pieces that the student would like to work on. I most often will incorporate ear training in all of my lessons without being obvious about it, as well as performance. I believe it should be music that speaks to the heart.
Not only will students achieve their goals in learning to play their favorite song or actually play well, they will find a peace and a calm in freely exploring the art of music. Whether they find it to be an escape from it all, or their future with a musical career, it shall be achieved.

A piano, or at least a 40-key keyboard instrument that has depth of sound. A good quality instrument, because if not, they will lose interest.
I have a Roland-88 key traveling digital piano instrument. This can go wherever I go. I also own a Technics Digital piano that has all sound capabilities and recording features. I also own an Howard or Baldwin Upright piano, which plays beautifully for those getting to know a true piano sound and control of its pedal.

contemporary gospel, jazz, show tunes, semi-classical

I would assess the student's capability and begin with the level appropriate for the student. For new students with no experience, I would start out with simple hand positioning and playing the piano firsthand. We'll learn as we go with fine details of reading notation and techniques. I will introduce one or two subject to cover for each lesson. For students that have more experience and are at the beginner level, I will introduce technical practices and assign a piece of music. As for intermediate and advance, we will cover technical practice, assigned music, and music theory.
