I will listen to you as carefully as possible to make the lesson meaningful. What are you interested in about Japan? History, travel, movie, music, anime, traditional entertainment, food or else? Think of learning not Japanese, but what you love through Japanese because what you love motivates you for learning the most.

One of my typical lesson styles is a situational dialogue. Let's have fun.

I teach at my place or a coffee shop if you would like to, or online.

I am a native Japanese speaker from Tokyo. I have served as an instructor at the Greater Louisville Regional Japanese Saturday School, which provides courses entirely in Japanese. I have helped students prepare for JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test) and the Japan Kanji Aptitude Test (Kanji Kentei). Whether you want to improve your reading or writing skills, or you are simply looking for a conversation partner, let me know!

If you are not sure if Japanese lessons are for you, I recommend signing up for shorter lessons first and then switch to longer lessons if you enjoy it:-) I would love to hear from you. Thank you!

Toshi has had several sessions with our son. Out of all the tutors and teachers that he has had in his life Toshi has been the best. Toshi has done an amazing job building his confidence. When he is in session I can hear him laughing and when he is done he is so excited for the next session. I would highly recommend Toshi. Thank you Toshi for everything you do!
Noelle
I was feeling very nervous about taking my first the lesson, but Toshi was very kind and knowledgeable. I was able to laugh throughout the whole lesson, and really start to feel comfortable. When I struggled to find words Toshi was able to help me find them, and was very patient with listening to me say “ummm” while I racked my brain. If you are looking for a great Japanese tutor, look no further than Toshi.

Talented teachers are rare. Like a great coach i sports... the coach doesn’t need to be the top athlete in his field to know how to teach each team member to hone their best abilities, he just has to know and see how to teach you how to get there. Being an outstanding teacher is a great talent all in itself... and that is Jesse. He has that quality and ability to lead, focus and take you where you want to go.
Romy R.
Jesse has given directions on how to successfully become a better musician. His approach and explanation on musical theories was much more understandable than what I was previously reading. Overall, I found the lessons to be very usefull.

"I have been taking private Japanese classes with Emi S. for one year and a half. Before I started she asked me whether I wanted to focus on just the conversational side of Japanese or the complete knowledge of the language including kanji. For me it was all.

She is proud of her heritage and enjoys talking about Japan and her culture, which makes the class even more enjoyable. She is dedicated, enthusiastic and organized.

I am sure that with her help I will be able to meet my goal of one day passing the JLTP N1.

I recommend her for classes of any level."

"Great teacher! Uses established course textbooks to guide the classes, yet adds custom lessons tailored to your needs or focus. Hiromi makes sure to challenge you on your trouble spots by preparing custom focused instruction. Within my first set of 5 lesson my skills improved dramatically. Even without being able to speak fluently, I could understand the large majority of my business meetings in Japan. In less than 2 months I have been able to learn correct, day to day conversational speaking that covers a variety of subjects and life necessities. Highly recommended!"

Omotenashi: Japanese Hospitality and Etiquette

When you're studying a foreign language, it's helpful to also learn about culture, history, and traditions. Here, Japanese teacher Taro T. introduces the Japanese concept omotenashi... As someone who learned English as a second language, I truly believe in the importance of finding something positive from a new culture, and adopting it in your own life. This doesn’t just help you learn a new language, but it will also help you grow as an individual. Courtesy for Others Omotenashi i …
