Understand your repertoire both historically and theoretically, perform from the heart, learn to practice most efficiently for maximum progress and fun!

About Jonathan
Piano, singing, and songwriting began for me when I discovered really awesome piano music such as with bands like Queen, Yes, and ELP. After high school, I studied classical music composition at Wheaton College's Conservatory of Music receiving my Bachelors in Music Composition with a focus in piano. My professional experience includes singing on film/TV productions such as High School Musical, Hairspray, and Struck By Lightning. I compose and orchestrate for theater (Glendale Center Theater, Vanguard University Theater Department), film/TV, orchestra (L.A. Jewish Symphony, TCOTW, BIOLA University) and album projects (Anna Nalick, Oodle's World Productions).

Singing credits include Jurassic World, Adele on the Academy Awards, Josh Groban's Stages album, High School Musical 1, Hairspray The Movie, High School Musical 3, Chris Kolfer'
s new movie Struck by Lightning, Atlanta Aquarium Dolphin Show recording, Boston Public, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire ad (New Wave Ent.), and The Drew Carey Show. Piano credits include American Idol finalist Stevie Scott, various other bands, Mastro's restaurants, and local churches.

I love to share musical knowledge and really enjoy teaching!

Music education environments can be tense and intimidating, but that's what causes averse attitudes towards learning. Learning is hard, but it's also extremely rewarding and should build confidence along the way. With me, lessons are all about progress and not about criticism. We will maintain an organized and detailed set of personalized goals all along the way, and you will see your progress in all different facets of music, playing, and singing. With any instrument, voice and piano especially, staying relaxed is key. How can you learn to fly over the keys or soar into your upper vocal register when you are tense or worried about making a mistake?

I guarantee:

1) That lessons will be fun. Learning takes hard work, but it can also be fun. That's part of my job!

2) That I will never make you sing in a way that can harm your voice.

3) That you will be empowered with tools of knowledge about your instrument (voice/piano) and about music theory that will help you to be a versatile musician.

I expect:

1) That you come willing to try new things in a low pressure environment. This will lead to progress!

2) That you come prepared to sing/play.

3) That you or your child will make mistakes. That's what lessons are for! Commit to not making the same mistakes the next time, and ENJOY the praise and feedback you get along the way.

Great

Jonathan is super patient and kind. But also gives good feedback that has helped me improve. Along with vocal warm ups and singing songs we work on ear training and sight reading. His approach is gentle and non judgmental. Great teacher for both kids and kids at heart. I am truly pleased and would highly recommend him.

Students can opt for traditional style learning using one of the popular piano methods of study to tackle the technical, theoretical knowledge, and sight readings skills necessary to become a great pianist.

Students that have already tried this approach and either found success or failure may also decide to learn with a custom tailored approach which mainly focusses on improvisation techniques, and learning by ear. Students are guided toward developing good musicianship whether choosing to focus on jazz, classical, gospel and blues, or pop and rock styles of playing.

About Paul
I am a firm believer in the power of music to heal, entertain, and teach. It is our first and most vital universal human language and as such, I believe we all have the ability to learn how to communicate beautifully with music to express our deepest feelings. As a teacher it is my privilege and pleasure to help you develop.

From classical violin to jazz piano my early musical education not only spanned genres and instruments but also geographically from Austin Texas to Madison Wisconsin and finally brought me to Los Angeles where I currently reside and produce and teach music professionally.

Helping you or your child reach your musical dreams in a friendly-nurturing environment is my sincere desire and obligation as your teacher. Discipline is required and to be expected, however, an overly rigid or demanding routine can do mo
re harm than good. I believe attention must be paid to individual learning styles. Therefore, as a teacher I have learned to observe carefully at first and custom tailor a practice routine with each student aimed at achieving their goals. I believe the study of music helps foster a deep level of self-confidence and self realization, which eventually leads the student to discover a portion of himself he would otherwise never know. My goal is to inspire others with this joy, which is everyone's birthright and an important key in finding happiness.

A gifted singer-songwriter of Pop, Rock, World and Reggae songs that possess that timeless quality. He has recorded with 2 time Grammy nominated producer Barry Goldberg (Eagles, Robbie Robertson, Verve Pipe, Marilyn Manson). He has released three CDs, had songs featured in compilations and in feature length film, toured North America, and taught guitar, piano, and voice both privately and in an all ages Montessori school in Santa Monica. He consistently played in a variety of bands while earning an A.A. in music from SMC and later a B.A. in Ethnomusicology from UCLA, where he earned distinction as an excellent student both academically and in musical performance. He brought passion to his performances with legends, Fransisco Aguabellas Afro Cuban ensemble, Brazilian Batucada ensemble, African-American gospel choir, music and dance of Ghana, and the Balinese Gamelan ensemble. As a member of several original LA bands, (Las Manchas, Samson Simpson, Toussaint, Mentone, Cloth and Spicy Fernandez) he has performed at world famous venues and toured North America. He co-wrote and co-produced the first EP records by Samson Simson with Ronen Navah, and also co-produced Mentone's first full-length record, "Empire" with Ronen Navah and Aki Ehara" Currently he is developing his new band, Spicy Fernandez, which has released a few singles on the internet and is getting a good buzz from Industry heavy weights.

I believe in custom tailoring a curriculum to fit the students needs, while still providing them with the same basic tools all musicians need to develop in order to play well (both with themselves and with others). Obviously, some students require more structure and discipline, while others have a stronger work ethic. Some may even need a teacher that is more laid back to balance them out, but more so my job is to facilitate learning and guide. A student studying with me can expect to receive a general assessment of their skill level in musicianship, theory, and on their instrument within the first couple of lessons (or once I feel that I have experienced enough of their abilities). Based on that assessment, I will work with the student to develop a plan of small goals to work toward. Progress will be monitored weekly and larger goals will unfold naturally in accord with the students own dreams and musical ambitions. Within 3 to 6 months of study with me students will learn to play a range of simple songs, basic scales, exercises, finger positions, and have a solid foundation for listening to, and playing to rhythm.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full acoustic upright, Wurlizter electric piano, and keyboard synths, a computer based digital audio workstation...guitars...percussion...in the front room of my house. Has a full set-up for a band.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide copies of some sheet music, a library of music books, percussion instruments, digital recordings of lessons.
I expect that they provide their own instrument, pencil, notebook, 3-ring binder for sheet music, stereo/mp3 player, CD player, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I excel at popular music genres such as pop, blues, R&B, rock, and jazz. I am also trained classically and enjoy the challenges of standard repertoire from Bach to Chopin.
I began studying music as a student of the Suzuki method. However, today I find that my own practice resembles most closely, the Kodály, Dalcroze, and Orff-Schulwerk methodologies in philosophy and application.

Paul is very talented and, a very good and patient teacher. He is prepared for the class even before you arrive at his place, and communicates his thoughts very clearly. He is ready for a challenge if you give him a random song which you wanted to practice, and he begins to play the song on the guitar without any tabs or notes, instead just by listening to it a couple of times.

He's great to work with, and I'd choose him as my guitar teacher again if I ever live in the surrounding area.

Piano lessons with me will cover 3 main things:

Theory - reading music, rhythms, etc...all the building blocks that make up music.
Technique - taught with warmups, to be incorporated and reinforced in pieces.
Musicianship - how to play a piece of music expressively!

While each lesson is tailored to each individual, a typical lesson will begin with a warmup, incorporating both technique and theory; next we usually move on to the pieces that the student is working on. Students often work on two at once--one is in the process of being polished and the focus is musicianship, and another will be new so the focus will be on the mechanics and make up of the piece. At the end I like to wrap up with theory, which is usually a written assignment out of a theory book.

During the lesson I takes notes on a Daily Practice Sheet template, writing down each item we covered and leaving detailed instructions on how to practice (I'm a big fan of isolating trouble spot in order to tackle them--divide ...

About Rosalie
I have been playing music and singing for as long as I can remember. My mother is a piano teacher so I grew up listening to piano and I started lessons with her when I was 4 years old. I learned through the Suzuki method, so I was constantly listening and singing along to music. I've performed solo, competed, performed in duets and trios, accompanied singers...been the singer someone else is accompanying...often I do both at the same time.
While I focused on piano I also sang in choirs, plays, camps, etc. At age 14 I started taking private voice lessons--I had decided that I was serious about it, and ready to trade in my private cello lessons for voice lessons. I studied voice all throughout college covering opera, musical theatre (what I'm most passionate about), jazz, and pop. I've performed in multiple choirs, musicals, cabarets, and
a cappella groups.

Expect to learn how to read and play music as well as learn the inner workings of basic theory.

About Chris
I am a jazz guitarist based out of beautiful Los Angeles, California. I received and Associate of Arts degree in Music in 2015, and have been pursuing a bachelors in Jazz Studies since then.

While in community college I really grew into my own as a musician and discovered that I love jazz. Not only the music, but the history of how it formed as well as the differences from classical music. When at school I stood out from the other guitarists because I was hungry to learn and that attitude will hopefully follow me for the rest of my life.

Thats what I'd hope to pass on the students; that knowledge, be it music, english, math, physiology, etc. is the key to everything. And that it doesn't have to be all stuffy and boring! I tailor my lessons to the student whether its guitar, piano, ukulele, etc. and my main objective is to learn and
have fun, so the learning is reinforced with good natured thoughts. This will set up the student to actually want to practice!

As a musician I've been in a couple of groups, and starting to get a jazz group together recently. I also try to utilize the computer to produce when possible so I can learn about that aspect of music. My passion is improvisation/composition, because I hope to one day leave songs behind that people can play forever and be influenced by them like so many have influenced me.

I am a pianist who plays across genres! I teach classical, pop, jazz, RnB, funk, country, you name it! In Michigan where I'm from, I taught students all of these styles. My goal is to tailor our lessons to exactly what the student wants for their piano playing. As a composer, I have experience in teaching students to write and record their own music! Again, whether you want to produce your own pop song or compose/arrange for an orchestra, I will show you how!

About Theodore
I'm a composer, pianist/keyboardist, and drummer who likes to think out-of-the-box, but not without knowing what it's like to have been in the box. Everyone has to figure out what they want for themselves, and everyone has a different journey to figuring out what they want. In teaching composition, piano and drum performance, I'm here to tailor music lessons to the individual, based on what inspires that person most, and what they want to accomplish most musically.

Since age 14, I've played thousands of stages across the US with different gospel artists, was commissioned by the Grand Rapids Symphony of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the West Michigan Flute Orchestra, scored a film by Symmetry Films, and scored multiple theatre productions. And after all that, my number one goal through music is to help people find what inspires them.

Our two sons (10 and 8) had lessons with Theo for two years. Having worked with several music teachers with our older children, I can say with honesty that Theo is the most effective instructor I've known. he's very attentive to students' individual approaches, and structures lessons around specific interests and needs. For instance, one of our kids showed a strong interest in composition, so Theo helped him record his ideas, then they transcribed the music together. Both of our children grew quickly in skill and understanding during their time with Theo. We look forward to connecting with him again on this platform!

Experienced professional pianist/keyboardist, specializing in teaching the techniques real, working musicians use when they play. All ages and levels of experience welcome. What I teach is a simple, direct, and accessible way of looking at music that takes it off of the page and into the student's ears and fingers. My students learn not only to play in their genre of choice (be it Classical, Jazz, etc.), but also how that knowledge enables them to transition to another genre if they so desire. In the process they also how to sight-read and improvise. Please send me a message if you would like more information! I would love to hear from you.

About Nicholas
I am a professional pianist/keyboardist. I graduated from Brown University with a degree in Music. I grew up in New York and Los Angeles.

I've worked extensively as an accompanist, booking regular jobs at the Tony-winning Trinity Repertory Company, Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Rockwell Table and Stage, as well as solo cabaret shows for such actors as Marilu Henner (Taxi, Chicago on Broadway).

I have also done work for a number of LA's top wedding band agencies, such as West Coast Music and Downbeat LA. I perform both as a keyboardist for the main reception, where I play pop synthesizer, and am often al the pianist for the cocktail reception or ceremony.

It is the breadth and variety of my experience that makes me a good piano teacher. I am proficient in a just about every genre of music, having had to play
it at some point or another. I approach music the way a professional musician has to: efficiently. Learning to play piano does not mean making music more complicated, it means making it simpler.
