About Fernando
Hello there! My name is Fernando, and I bring lots of profession playing and teaching experience to the table. I am an active musician in several local bands of various styles and genres, including jazz bands, Latin jazz bands, sax quartets, church groups, and musicals. I have played across southern California, several other states including Nevada (Reno Jazz Festival), Portugal, and Mexico.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, from CSUF. I also hold a valid California Teaching Credential, which I completed through CSUF. I also hold an Associate of Arts degree in Music from Fullerton College. I am also currently working on my Master's Degree in Music Conducting.

I am the Instrumental and Choral Music Teacher at Buena Park Jr. High School, in the city of Buena Park, where I teach band, orchestra, percussion
, and choir.

I have also taught woodwinds for various high schools across southern California, as well as a marching/visual coach for marching bands.

I front and lead my own Christian Contemporary Band. We've recorded two albums, of which I have composed the original music/lyrics, and produced both albums. We are currently working on our third album.

I can teach everything from jazz, to classical, rock, blues, Latin genres (salsa, merengue, bolero, mambo, etc.), and even contemporary Christian music in both English and Spanish.

I mix all of these experiences and knowledge into a big melting pot, and apply it very efficiently and wisely so that my students can positively benefit from a wonderful and exciting real-world musical journey!

*** Lesson Details ***
I base my lessons around the student's needs for musical growth, and their own likes and dislikes. If there is something specific that the student wants to learn, as far as a style/genre or piece of music, I foster that and I help encourage musical growth and enjoyment around that.
I am constantly encouraging my students to listen to as much music as possible, or better yet, to watch and listen to as much live music as possible. I strongly believe that this nurtures musical growth and serves as a role model.
I am very patient and laid back, but I do expect the student to have fun while staying constant with individual practice. There is no substitution for perseverance, consistency, and hard work, but it doesn't mean that we will not have fun while we make music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
An upright Yamaha acoustic piano is available, along with a Korg and Kurzweil digital keyboards, music stands, computer music software for studying repertoire (music), a large collection/library of books containing scales, exercises, music, etc. I also can make copies or print something for you if necessary. A sound system is available for listening to something is necessary. Flute, saxophone, and clarinet students must provide their own instrument, but I can point you in the right direction in terms of acquiring an instrument either for purchase or rental from a local music retail store.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students must provide their own instrument, except piano if student comes to my home for lessons. Student must also provide books (as assigned), and metronome for practicing at home. I can carry with me things such as: saxophone, clarinet, flute, a portable music stand, metronome/tunes, pencil, paper, and any other book(s) or materials as needed.

*** Specialties ***
I can teach classical, jazz/contemporary, funk, latin, blues, contemporary Christian, improvisation and music theory at very advanced levels.

My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Mikey for almost 3 years. Mikey's approach is individualized, strength-based, flexible and truly fun! Completely different from the painful lessons I remember from childhood, marked by endless regurgitation of trite ditties, lessons with Mikey are built on a foundation of appreciating and creating beautiful music together, from the very first lesson. My son has some learning differences/challenges (ADHD, dyslexia) but these have never really been an issue during lessons- he and Mikey always work together on navigating what they want to learn, explore and create next.

My lessons are very student driven and revolve around developing students innate music abilities to help them connect and experience success as well as enriching their lives with music. In my lessons students will develop music appreciation skills by listening to music, understanding basic music theory concepts, growing a knowledge of historical awareness in music all alongside learning the instrument of their chosen preference. The pace set for the sessions is rather relaxed and is highly dependent on the student but, students are guided throughout the sessions to eventually achieve their goals. My main teaching approach is: Let me use my skills and knowledge to help figure out what works best for you!

About Artem
Hello! My name is Artem Kolesov and I'm 22 years old. I'm a second year Masters student at Roosevelt University majoring in Violin Performance.
I am passionate about teaching because I believe education and willingness to learn is an extremely important factor for personal development and success.
I was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia and underwent intensive training in Voice, Violin and Piano. After winning the Frieburg Intenational Violin Competition in 2010, I was offered a full scholarship to study music at Dalhousie University at the age of sixteen. After moving to Canada I had to go through a 9-month intensive english learning program, so I know first hand how difficult it can be to learn a new language. This experience helped me understand the struggles that any ESL student goes through and discover new ways to teach
my first language to others.
I am excited to get to know you and share my knowledge with you!

Artem was incredibly helpful when I was taking my Russian classes. My parents never taught me and I finally decided to learn so I could converse with my grandparents.

Artem was amazing at showing me how to speak naturally and fluently without ever getting impatient with me. I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn.

If you want to learn to LOVE performing, get in touch with me! I grew up doing youth theatre in the South Bay, I'm a graduate of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (Vocal Major), as well as the Hartt School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, where I got my BFA in Musical Theatre, and performing is truly in my blood!
I believe that more than anything, music should be about having fun and making your soul happy. And I believe lessons should be fun as well! Of course we'll get into theory, healthy & sustainable singing technique, and performance & audition prep, but it's more about throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what your particular style is.
The same goes for my acting lessons, of course. I will work diligently to find material that fits you personally, and then we will work it until it becomes as natural as your own t
houghts.
I can also help with college auditions for musical theatre programs, seeing as I auditioned for 25 college myself before settling on Hartt.
If any of the above interests you, send me a quick question and we'll work out a time that works for both of us! Have a great day!!

Monica offers very insightful coaching for both acting and singing. She gets to the heart of the story and helps me find ways to bring that to life. She is very kind in her coaching and I leave her lesson with more confidence in my ability to portray that character. Great for getting ready for an audition.

Hi, there! My name is Alexa and I would be excited to be your drum teacher. I've been teaching private lessons since 2004 and have helped 100+ students become better drummers. I strive to make my lessons fun yet productive. If you are a beginner, you'll learn all the foundations for good drumming such as technique and rudiments..... while at the same time learning to play along to your favorite songs. If you are intermediate / advanced, we'll identify which areas of your drumming can be improved to make you a more well rounded musician.

I went to Berklee College of Music and earned a degree in Professional Music in 2004 (GPA 3.9). I also attended the L.A. Music Academy from 1998-99 (now Los Angeles College of Music).

I'm a very patient and motivated teacher, and I'm great with kids and parents. I look forward to helping you (or yo

I was a beginner drummer looking to learn a new skill. Alexa was a patient and extremely talented teacher. I looked at many different individuals before choosing her. I was trying to find someone who was educated in music through formal schooling (To have a strong background in the fundamentals who could actually teach me as an absolute novice) as well as someone that is currently performing (who Rocks !). I have seen her perform a number of times and she is truly talented.
I felt so comfortable with her as a teacher (and a person) I also had her teach my youngest son (who was 11 at the time).
She never missed an appointment, and was always on time (very important for a drummer)
