About Fernando
Hello there! My name is Fernando, and I bring lots of profession playing and teaching experience to the table. I am an active musician in several local bands of various styles and genres, including jazz bands, Latin jazz bands, sax quartets, church groups, and musicals. I have played across southern California, several other states including Nevada (Reno Jazz Festival), Portugal, and Mexico.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, from CSUF. I also hold a valid California Teaching Credential, which I completed through CSUF. I also hold an Associate of Arts degree in Music from Fullerton College. I am also currently working on my Master's Degree in Music Conducting.

I am the Instrumental and Choral Music Teacher at Buena Park Jr. High School, in the city of Buena Park, where I teach band, orchestra, percussion
, and choir.

I have also taught woodwinds for various high schools across southern California, as well as a marching/visual coach for marching bands.

I front and lead my own Christian Contemporary Band. We've recorded two albums, of which I have composed the original music/lyrics, and produced both albums. We are currently working on our third album.

I can teach everything from jazz, to classical, rock, blues, Latin genres (salsa, merengue, bolero, mambo, etc.), and even contemporary Christian music in both English and Spanish.

I mix all of these experiences and knowledge into a big melting pot, and apply it very efficiently and wisely so that my students can positively benefit from a wonderful and exciting real-world musical journey!

*** Lesson Details ***
I base my lessons around the student's needs for musical growth, and their own likes and dislikes. If there is something specific that the student wants to learn, as far as a style/genre or piece of music, I foster that and I help encourage musical growth and enjoyment around that.
I am constantly encouraging my students to listen to as much music as possible, or better yet, to watch and listen to as much live music as possible. I strongly believe that this nurtures musical growth and serves as a role model.
I am very patient and laid back, but I do expect the student to have fun while staying constant with individual practice. There is no substitution for perseverance, consistency, and hard work, but it doesn't mean that we will not have fun while we make music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
An upright Yamaha acoustic piano is available, along with a Korg and Kurzweil digital keyboards, music stands, computer music software for studying repertoire (music), a large collection/library of books containing scales, exercises, music, etc. I also can make copies or print something for you if necessary. A sound system is available for listening to something is necessary. Flute, saxophone, and clarinet students must provide their own instrument, but I can point you in the right direction in terms of acquiring an instrument either for purchase or rental from a local music retail store.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students must provide their own instrument, except piano if student comes to my home for lessons. Student must also provide books (as assigned), and metronome for practicing at home. I can carry with me things such as: saxophone, clarinet, flute, a portable music stand, metronome/tunes, pencil, paper, and any other book(s) or materials as needed.

*** Specialties ***
I can teach classical, jazz/contemporary, funk, latin, blues, contemporary Christian, improvisation and music theory at very advanced levels.

Art is the absolute BEST!

Art is a wonderful teacher!! He is enthusiastic, reliable, knowledgeable and very personable. I feel extremely fortunate to have found Art to teach my 4 year old daughter.

My daughter has been eager to start learning the piano. I needed to find someone that is able to teach at her young level and to be able to connect with her shy personality. Amazingly, Art is able to make her laugh, smile, learn and have fun all at the same time!

My daughter has fun learning and we often find her practicing on her own at the piano. Actually, she considers it playtime at the piano! She is learning simple songs after just a few lessons. She is very proud of her ability to play and is always eager to see Art so that she can learn more.

I HIGHLY recommend Art as a piano teacher. It is obvious that he loves music, this is evident in his weekly teachings. As a parent, I couldn't be happier!!! Art is setting a firm foundation for our daughter's love for music.

About Ann
I am President of a growing and flourishing arts organization that specializes in education outreach and commissioning new works. I also tour nationally as a solo/principal soprano and have worked locally with companies like Los Angeles Opera, Opera Pacific, Opera a la Carte and many other Southern California performing arts organizations. I have a BA in vocal performance from Cal Poly Pomona and have worked as a professional singer and teaching artist for the last twenty-five years. In addition to teaching voice in my studio, I am currently working as a teaching artist in several different schools and special education sites throughout Southern California. I love to teach, I love when students make breakthroughs, and I love overcoming challenges and solving problems. I specialize in light opera and musical theater. My philosop
hy is that if a student develops good singing technique, they can sing in any style, from pop music to opera, and keep their voice healthy. No two voices are the same and each of us has our own unique instrument, with the right training that instrument can grow and work at it's optimum. I approach my lessons with humor, putting the student at ease, if the student is comfortable and relaxed, they are more open to learning and their voice will sound much more free and beautiful.

*** Lesson Details ***
The lessons are designed around each student's particular need, especially when it comes to how the student likes to learn, not every person learns the same way, so flexibility is key. The student will be given a solid concept of good breath support, work with matching pitches, singing with a line, producing good tone quality and singing with good diction and projection. The student is ultimately going to learn how to become their own voice teacher, they will learn how to listen to their voice and be able to identify warning signs of vocal trouble and how to prevent and solve problems. After about three months the student will be producing much prettier tone and begin to grasp the concept of breath support. As time moves on, they will build their ability to support their voice, open up their sound so they can get more volume without hurting their instrument and the student will develop a better endurance, being able to sing longer and not tire out too quickly. As the students technique develops and strengthens, they will become more confident. If the student is already performing or has worked to the point where they are ready to start performing, then we will spend more time on interpretation and acting as well as developing a confident stage presence.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room: piano, mirror

*** Travel Equipment ***
I only teach from my house and do not travel.

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained, have been singing professionally for over 20 years and I sing both Opera and Musical Theatre.

I've had a phenomal experience with my instructor Anastasia! She makes me feel comfortable and at ease when I get timid, she also never puts me on the spot, she always sings along with me so I don't feel as nervous! I give her all 5 stars because no one has ever made me come out of my little singing shell and out of my comfort zone, I've learned new techniques to help my breath control and I've gotten so much better at matching pitch!

In 2004, I received my master of music degree in piano performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2006, I entered the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with full scholarship in piano performance and worked in the music department as a collaborative piano teaching assistant for four years. I taught both undergraduate and graduate students.
During my sixteen years of teaching, I have trained students of a variety of ages
and ethnic backgrounds in both public and private institutions. As a teacher, I strive to help my students develop a mindful and musical ear by stressing a genuine appreciation for music beyond the mechanics of piano instruction. For advanced students, I challenge them with an increasingly more technical and demanding repertoire. For the
past several years, I sought and created opportunities for my students to perform in public and build their confidence, such as music competitions and local concerts.

Grey hung in there even with all my connection problems. Then he taught me accordian information that I had been thinking about, but never knew the answer to before, because I have been out of the picture for so long. It was just the right timing from my 5 previous lessons. I am looking forward to my next lesson. I just need to get in enough practice time. My learning curve is in my hands now. Until the next lesson.

Grey would play all kinds of music and my favorites were the old hymns and the contemporary Christian music, but when he broke out the polka music it would get your heart pumpin and your feet jumpin. My name is John. I am a graduate of the music performance program at The University of California at Riverside. There I studied under several talented teachers including Dr. Tim Labor and Dr. Barbara Bennett, as well as Trumpeters Don Clarke, Richard Chasin, and Joshua Welchez. Since graduating I have been engaging in some freelance work both as a one on one private instructor, as well as a technician for Azusa High School's Jazz Ensemble.

In general I have always prized the value of personal instruction. Having come from a family of primarily educators I am well aware that the value a single teacher can have on a student is immeasurable. This appreciation has only been compounded since I have begun to teach myself. About Teresa
I am excited to have the opportunity to teach piano lessons to students who want to enrich their lives by learning this magical instrument! I can say with 100% confidence that I can customize an individual course of 'study' that will make it possible for ANY student to quickly and easily play piano utilizing methodology geared toward the student's own particular learning style.

Music is a language that, once the basics are understood, is simple to become fluent at. I, myself, began taking piano lessons when I was 12 years old and continued studying music in college where I studied piano pedagogy (teaching) and commercial recording arts in Southern California. Combining the traditional formal training I received in music theory, technique, composition, and performance with the ART of improvisation and 'playing by ear', I have developed
a method that makes it fun and simple to learn how to master the piano!

I look forward to interacting with many students here at Takelessons.com---including YOU!
