Are dreaming of working on SNL, want to improv your skills going off the cuff, or just looking to sharpen your social interactions? As a certified Immersive and Interactive Theatre performer, I can teach you not only the fundamentals of improvisation, but how to create your own unique characters and scenes! We'll go over the basic ideas and structures for improv, from Yes And to Game Play to building unique relationships between characters. Most importantly, we'll have fun exploring one of the oldest known theatrical art forms!

I teach all kinds of acting, and have for over 40 years, but I specialize in improvisation, stage acting, on-camera acting, acting for the face, voice acting, comedic acting, physical acting, script analysis, monologues, audition prep, audition videos and voice over auditions. For Improv Acting we'll cover the elements of successful improvisation. We'll use exercises and games to develop your expression, imagination, spontaneity, creativity, solo work, and work with an ensemble. We'll create scenes, characters, and scenarios, and develop them into performance pieces. We'll explore improv as actor training, rehearsal technique, scene study, character development, and professional entertainment, including interactive theatre, immersive theatre, historical improvised theatre. We'll see how to use improvisation in film, television, and onstage. We'll study verbal improvisation, physical improvisation, improvised pantomime, and the improvised use of props. And much more. Our improv studies will be tailored to your specific abilities and needs.

As a voice teacher & performance coach, I work holistically to help you explore the accurate communication of emotions that comprise a sincere ability to relate a story to an audience. We explore character development along with delving into how the voice integrates physical responses to external stimuli. Working with acting skills can help us understand our relationship to others and our world in a different light. It's an excellent way to continue professional development in any field, as the ability to role-play helps you work with communication skills in a risk-free environment. When it comes to Improv Acting, students will play tons of games to help develop the ability to improv quickly. We spend the majority of the time working on ways that students will be put into a scenario: stunt doubles, super hero's, occupations, family dynamics, animals, food, famous media and literature characters. We will focus on the extremes of these characters in the scenes. Students love to improv, as a way to develop confidence, stage presence, which will help with any type of acting. Improv is one of my many favorites with acting students. Always help students feel successful. Consider acting lessons and specifically improv acting as an option.

This is time to challenge ourselves. Lets learn how our bodies move and how to improvise with our dance. This is a DANCE improv class, not ACTING IMPROV.

Improve your improv! Carolyn began working professionally at 8 years old and has since appeared on stage, in national commercials, recorded voiceovers, and booked principal roles in both film and television. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011 from the Boston Conservatory, where she majored in musical theater with an emphasis in directing. She is currently in the hit Off-Broadway shows “My Big Gay Italian Wedding” and “My Big Gay Italian Funeral”.

I have spent four seasons training with Second City Improv in Chicago and 20 years training actors in these skills.
