I like to take pride in making my students feel secure and knowing and seeing the improvement they make within each session. I will be handing out a materials list prior to our lessons. Most students see a huge leap in drawing within the the first lesson! Class starts out usually with me giving a 1 hour demonstration on what I expect them to do as I cover and explain my entire process and thought and calculations that goes into drawing and painting. For the rest of the class I will be besides the student as they work giving them one on one pointers and as much help and explanation as they need in order to improve. Students start out with learning how to look and draw what they observe accurately by first working on simple geometric shapes such as spheres, cubes. We then will move on to Cast studies and after a few months of studying we will start on figures and portraits.
About Kai Lun
Hi, there! My name is Kai, and I can't wait to meet you! Spreading the joy of drawing and painting has always been a great pleasure of mines.
Being trained in China's most prestigious and renowned fine arts academy, CAFA (China Central Academy of Fine ArtsI) as well as studying in Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, Shanghai Art and Design Academy, and Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, I offer art classes in traditional realistic painting and drawing techniques, both Online and in my studio I set up within my studio.
Students of all levels are welcome. From beginners who love art and drawing but who have not had formal training, to experienced artists who want to gain a more solid grasp of fundamental principles, historical training methods lead to significant skill development within a few months of teaching.
I had a huge coincidence by having a lesson with Kai in the Bay Area. He and I have the same point of view about learning drawing that helps me to understand his tips and instructions. It is a true pleasure to be his student, I was feeling like I’m detective who’s seeking for tips and clues and try to transfer all of that onto the paper. Also he is really good by explaining how to see simple shapes and figures in every object, how to extend an imaginary line and keep angles which did and will help me to draw more consciously. Highly recommend him anyone who wants to improve its drawing and painting skill.

Kai is an excellent instructor and has left a tramendious mark on me as both a student and an artist. Kai may be young, but he has knowledge beyond his years through skill and ambitiously being self taught he has been commended on nationally. Kai in the fall attended FACE and was recently awarded a certificate of excellence from The Portrait Society of America. I very grateful to have worked with him and been walked through his very informative and beautiful demos. Crique from Kai is wonderful and facilitates vast and constructive improvement in skill level. Would highly recommend Kai!
Oil paints have been most artists' first choice for hundreds of years, with good reason. The colors are gorgeous, you can do anything with them and they last forever. Oil paint is slow drying so you can remove what you don't like while it's wet or you can paint over it when it's dry. Oil paint is easy to use once you learn the basics. I've taught beginners to masters and I've learned that everything builds on just a few basic concepts that I will show you here.
I'll take you step by step to a finished painting. •First learn about the materials you will need to get started. •Next learn a little basic information in easy steps. •Finally use these concepts as you paint the exercises with me on your own canvases. •You will then have the skills to paint anything you can see or imagine.
As a child of five years old I was brought by my mom to Gulyaev’s Art Studio and this famous Ukrainian artist involved me in the marvelous world of fine art.
In high-school, I participated in a federally-funded program for the Gifted and Talented in Visual Art. After graduation I won a huge competition and was admitted as a student of the Architectural department of the Kiev Architectural Civil University. In 2001, I become a student, hand-selected by the director of extraordinary Master degree program of Visual Communication, offered by Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY). In master classes, we learned from each other and worked with the best illustrators: Murray Tinkelman and Cris Payne, Dave Passalaqua and Sano Kazu (Kazuhini), Bunny (Alice) Carter and Bob d’Sey, I love to learn new skills and keep learning new styles and techniques
all the time. This love has inspired my beloved students to do the same.
Really enjoyed working with Marina! She is very fun and delightful to work with

I've known Marina for a very long time and while I haven't taken any classes yet, I most definitely would recommend her to anyone who's looking for a good art teacher. She is a very talented artist and has a rare ability to inspire people to be creative. Her students' paintings are awesome and always make me smile looking at them.
In my classes you can expect to learn both the basics and advanced material: -Painting realistic skin tones, composition, using a grisaille and verdaccio, glazing, methods and materials of the Old Masters, achieving a likeness in portraiture, accurate color mixing and matching, the use and preparation of painting mediums, translating what you see or envision onto the canvas successfully and much more. I enjoy teaching people that are passionate about art, regardless of their skill level.
I am a classically trained artist and illustrator. I enjoy teaching people who are passionate about art regardless of skill level. I have exhibited widely in Mexico and the United States and also illustrated for magazines and books. I provide classical instruction in portraiture, still life and landscape in your studio or mine. In this traditional approach to drawing and painting, what will be taught and focused upon are perspective, value and composition in order for the student to develop strong visual language skills. The program of study begins with a specific focus on drawing, since drawing is the foundation upon which all great traditional art is built. Throughout this training, emphasis will be placed on accuracy, or more specifically, seeing and rendering correctly such things as line quality, hard and soft edges, proportion, positive and negative space through abstract form and the use of the full range of values.
I'm a graduate of Dean College in Franklin, MA and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where I majored in art history and studio art with a focus on portrait painting and illustration. I continued further study at the Andeeva Portrait Academy in Sante Fe New Mexico, the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art in Van Nuys, CA and the Sadie Valerie Atelier in San Francisco.
The program of study for drawing will include: Demonstration of one, two and three point perspective, creating the nine step value scale, cast drawing in charcoal, the still life in charcoal and drawing the portrait. The topic of composition will also be covered. I’ve done commissioned work for Audi, the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the American Repertory Theater, the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Kessler Financial Ser
vices, Harvard Business School Publishing, Shilo Baptist Church, the Chelsea Soldiers Home and others. Samples of my work are available to view in my profile. Additional samples are available upon request.
I am a classically trained artist who works primarily in oil. My main genre is portraiture and I have taught life drawing and portrait painting in both the UK and USA. Would be delighted to share many years of experience and teach from foundations of painting and drawing to more complex subjects like colour theory and composition. My studio is located in downtown Santa Barbara but I am happy to travel and teach at your home as well as teach painting landscapes outdoors.

I have been a professional oil painter for 36 years and have taught oil and acrylic painting classes fro over a decade. I teach a casual, fun but serious style class. My goal is to teach the basics of creating a simple strong painting in a semi realistic style. However, my goal is to allow the student to develop their own individual style. Understanding the creative process is also key to making good art.
My name is Dan. The only thing that I love more than painting is teaching students how to paint. I call my teaching method, "serious play". In other words, I want the students to learn something of value during each class, but also to enjoy the creative process that is key to making a successful painting.
Keep the brushes wet, make every stroke count! Very patient - you’ve just got to do it. Been invaluable in guiding the composition - he can’t hold the brush for you! For a “left brained” person like myself I need to get the “slap”!😄

Terrible! Missed an appointment, limited knowledge, poor teaching skills. Would avoid..
Hi! Are you frustrated with muddy and poor color choices in your paintings, the inaccurate drawing of your subject, and overall mediocrity? I will help you overcome the fear and frustration of painting with some sound color theory and drawing methods. You can learn to apply colors that are bold and fresh. As artists who continually learn, I believe there is no wrong in exploring colors, When we continue to paint, we learn what didn't work and apply what does work. That is how we improve! The more we practice in small steps and the greater our success!
I have been teaching and painting for a long time- since 1983, actually! I am also a professional mural artist and painter, and found that my painting improved many years after art school. I was frustrated back then and painting seemed so complicated! Is that you? I figured out, with my own research, the freedom and fun in painting. Your painting will improve week to week as we work together to apply nice color combinations, explore values, shapes, edges and so on. Are you interested in portraits, still lifes, landscapes, animals? Let's start with smaller painting sketches to learn the basics of color, shape and design. Then we will take it from there. You can and will succeed in producing paintings you desire!
Simply amazing art teacher! She is skilled in her expertise and has the education and professional experience to back it up. Not only that, she knows exactly how to cultivate an aspiring artist with both technical skills and a caring hand. With Rita's help, you'll bloom right where you're at!
Whatever your skill level, however fast or slow you want to go, I want to help you to become a better artist and enjoy it while you’re learning! What we cover in your lesson will be determined by your level of expertise. If you are just starting out with oils, we will discuss some important things to understand about the colors, mediums, how to set up your palette and some different ways of applying paint, etc. If you already have some experience with oil painting, we will pick up with whatever areas you would like to improve on. If you are interested in painting the human figure or portraits in particular, we can discuss some important ways to go about painting flesh tones. There are also some little known tips I want to tell you about that will be useful to artists of any skill level!
I will share with you any suggestions that I have for technique or different ways of approaching your painting that may help you with whatever areas you’re struggling with. We can focus on how to ...
I’ve been painting with oils for almost three decades, and drawing for as long as I can remember. I’ve been a full time fine artist for over a decade now. I’ve been doing guest demos and teaching private and group lessons for many years, for various subject matter and age groups.
After graduating from Tyler School of Art at Temple University with a major in Painting, I had jobs making signs by hand, doing T-shirt designs, in a graphic design studio with clients like M&M Mars, Claritin and Revlon. As a freelance artist, I did logos, movie poster illustration, album art and packaging design, and I even scored and created sound effects for some short films. Yes, I play keyboard as well.
For my fine art, I’ve worked in many different mediums including watercolor, acrylics, digital, ceramics, sculpture, metal casting and photography, but pa
inting with oils and drawing are my most preferred ways of creating. I’ve painted and drawn many different kinds of subjects, but the figure is my favorite. I have worked from photo reference and from life (something right in front of me) as well as from my imagination; the range of styles that I have used have gone from photorealism all the way to cartoons. I am proficient in Photoshop, which I currently use often to create composite images as reference for my paintings. My paintings have been displayed in many shows across the country, and have sold internationally.
