About Adia
Adia has been described as having “a voice full of personality and expression.” Her vocal stylings have been called soulful, soothing, and classy. Dedicated to the preservation of jazz music, her energetic and exciting performances are marked by a blend of jazz standards, original compositions, and an exploration of the elements of jazz found in contemporary music genres. For over ten years Adia performed with Generations, a jazz ensemble dedicated to the preservation of jazz music, consisting of some of the most seasoned jazz musicians in the triangle area, opening for Jimmy Heath and performing with Gary Bartz. Her debut CD First Take, features Generations. Adia is still often accompanied by her father, Generations bassist Freeman L., a bassist with over thirty years of jazz performing experience.

A skilled and passionate performer,
Adia works with various jazz instrumentalists. She currently performs with the her Quartet which routinely features jazz professionals, instructors, and students from North Carolina and the US east coast on drums, bass, piano, and horns.

A native of Durham, NC, Adia holds Bachelors degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies from North Carolina Central University and a Masters degree in Jazz Performance from New York’s Queens College. She was chosen as an outstanding performer by Downbeat Magazine in 2006, and was selected to participate in the 2006 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead International Jazz Residency and Performance Project. She was selected as a 2008 NC Arts Council Emerging Artist. Her sophomore CD, Take 2: Rendezvous with Yesterdays was well received internationally and reached the top ten on the CMJ jazz station charts.

Adia most recently was the featured performer for the 2011 Durham Arts Council Emerging Artist Ceremony and was chosen to be on the 2012-2014 Durham Arts Council CAPS rooster, bringing the arts to public and private schools. She also served as the music director for United Way’s “Shakespeare on Base” held at Fort Bragg Military Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

I sang in various choirs and also sing for personal songwriting. I teach proper exercises and warm up techniques to help improve tone, pitch, and breathing. I like to also have fun with it and sing contemporary songs based on student interest.

About Matthew
I started playing trumpet in grade school and was in the marching band the first year of high school. I then switched to playing upright bass in the orchestra. This led to me being a part of the jazz band and playing instrumentals for school musicals. Upon graduation time, I received the gold medal for music performance in strings. I was also an AP music theory student. After, I pursued a bachelor's degree in music and took education courses. I have tutored music theory and given instrument lessons, but they were always self employed or from the university.

I wish to help others make music an enjoying part of their lives, as it is in mine.

Larry and his wife are so friendly and knowledgeable. I came away from my first lesson feeling much more confident in my ability and encouraged to develop it further. They critiqued my current ability without being mean or hurtful, and they gave me plenty of positive feedback on the things I'm doing right. Being self-taught will only get you so far. Having an actual instructor who can create a plan based on your specific needs is invaluable. I highly recommend.

From beginners to singers that want to improve parts of their voice.

Learn proper breathing and control.

Learn to sing in pitch better and strength conditioning.

Learn how to get over stage fright and singing in front of people.

About Paul
***My goal as a teacher***

I try to teach what the students are interested in and make it fun and interesting so that they learn the lessons and their favorite songs. Every student is different and needs to be taught in a way that makes learning easy and fun for them.

I have a passion for all people and all ages and am blessed to be able to teach from the very young, (ages 2-5 Toddlermusik lessons) to teens and adults.....all the way to senior citizens. I've had many older students all the way up to a 93 year old gentleman who is taking singing lessons and asked me to put music to his lyrics. We have recorded over 50 songs together.

***Background***

I started playing trumpet in 5th grade and knew that music was for me. I also liked playing with drums and piano also because they seemed exciting. I've competed in WSMA (Wi
sconsin School Music Assoc.) for many years which taught me a lot about performing for judges, being relaxed, and the importance of preparation.

I started playing the guitar and bass guitar when I was 13 and have never stopped practicing and performing since. I also have done a lot of writing, recording, producing, and have a Pro Tools Studio for students to use.

***College and Teaching***

I began teaching music lessons in college and enjoyed it very much. I received my B.A. in Music from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. There I was very much involved with guitar, piano, voice, trumpet, and being in bands and writing music. After receiving my B.A. I also took 3 years of Education classes at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. I write, produce, and perform my music along with performing with bands around the Midwest.

***Life in Music***

After receiving my B.A. in Music, I continued teaching and opened up my home studio. After a year and a half I had enough students that I was able to quit my factory job and teach music full time. I've been teaching, performing, and writing music ever since.

***Performing and more***

I have been on stage performing music since I was 11. In school band, marching band, competing in music competitions, and in bands touring the Midwest.

I have recorded many CDs with bands and on my own. My most ambitious project was a CD of my original music called, "Girls". I've performed my music and promoted it by being interviewed on Milwaukee radio stations along with internet music sites such as CD Baby. It is very exciting talking on live radio about my music and my passion. It is also even more exciting, and scary, playing my music live on the radio, lol.

***Instruments Taught***

I have been teaching for over 2 decades. Students take lessons for:
* guitar (electric / acoustic)
* piano
* voice
* drums
* trumpet
* saxophone
* harmonica
* music theory / ear training
* studio recording / songwriting

I also give kindermusik lessons to 2-5 year old all the way up to senior citizens 70-93. I play parties, concerts, and Nursing Home performances.

I am experienced as an online (Skype) instructor, and I have taught online lessons worldwide. I've witnessed great results from my online students (both national and international).

I hope I can help you with all of your musical goals and get you going in a positive musical direction.

I meet Paul about three months ago, While not a complete beginner, I had tried to teach myself thru out the years and picked up a lot of bad habits. Paul helped me to see and fix my habits. Paul is a very qualified teacher, of many instruments, drums, keyboards, guitar, and others. I'm 59 years old, Paul doesn't mind my age, doesn't treat me like I'm too old to learn new stuff. And is more than willing to see me thru complete guitar instruction. Thanks Paul...

Experienced singer and teacher with a degree in vocal music education. I focus on learning to control the voice in all of its aspects so that it can be used to sing any and all styles. My go to styles are classical and musical theater, which I have been teaching and performing since I graduated college in 2016. My lessons are catered to the desires of the individual student, whose progress I will be tracking so that I can provide weekly updates. I also have a background in composition and theory that I can use to teach the basics of music to beginners.

About Coltyn
I am a professional singer in the Milwaukee area currently performing with a band that plays original pop/rock music and as a member of several professional choruses, such as Bel Canto, in which I am a section leader and soloist. I learned to sing by taking lessons at a young age which progressed into a degree in vocal music education from Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee. After teaching at two different schools in the Greater Milwaukee Area I moved onto teaching individual voice lessons, as it fit my teaching style better.

Students taking lessons in my studio can expect to learn something new every week while reviewing old material to maintain peak performance level. I pick lessons based on fixing flaws in individual voices that I hear as well as building strengths. I've narrowed all vocal techniques into a list of seven categor
ies, from which I pick one per week to focus on. The list is: 1. Thinking 2. Posture 3. Breathing 4. Phonation 5. Resonance 6. Articulation and 7. Communication.

Once students understand what they are doing and how to control it, they will be able to sing whatever style song they would like. It is my philosophy that good singing should never be an accident.
