When I first begin teaching a student, I tell them that everyone has the ability to sing well no matter his or her experience. I also tell them that there are four things that a good singer must have: breathe control (air is your fuel, and must be used efficiently and effectively to give you the best sound), posture (in order to have access to your air and prevent vocal damage you must practice good posture habits), diction (how you pronounce words when singing can impede or improve vocal tone, as well as help or hinder the audience in understanding the lyrics) and finally and most importantly, passion. Passion is how emotionally connected you are to music and is what really allows the singer to connect with his or her audience.

Alignment is the basis a great technique. Each person is different, and knowing how to help them release unwanted tension is critical.
The vocal folds are the core of the sound, and must be given the utmost care and consideration. Proper hydration is essential. They are also muscles, that need strengthening exercises and time for them to change. This will improve your vocal endurance and range. As a highly trained voice teacher, I can hear if the vocal folds are behaving in a healthy and efficient manner. It is essential that your teacher understand how to care for these delicate components of the human voice.
Vocal resonance is how opera singers are heard without amplification. It can be enhanced through awareness and coordination of the various portions of the vocal tract. There are two main components that help magnify the sound. The pharynx, also known as the throat, and the soft palate. Having an open throat and lift soft palate not only help your boost the ...

initially, I was reluctant about entering into the program. I thought the traditional mode of instruction always the best. it all changed when I wanted to try learning the more unconventional way. it was an experience having Wilma for my teacher in Singing. she has way of making lessons so easy to learn. I admire her for the patience and for adjusting to my level as a beginner. seldom people find teacher who has the proficiency to make hard lessons understandable and easier. more so I like her style developing a more open teacher-student relationship where I feel free asking questions and clarifications pertaining to matters no clear to me as a student I felt her passion to her craft. all in all I cannot question her credibility as a music teacher especially in the area of singing which happens to be my interest. I loved the manner she presented the lessons. she made them adaptable to the situations. It was really an experience having her for my music teacher. my perspective has changed. though I started on a very low note, she made the lessons so interesting to look and study at. here is hoping I would still have better chances learning especially the voice lessons and with her as my coach, then, I fervently believe it is possible."

Many singing teachers agree that one of the most alarming things today is tuning in to television talent competitions and seeing nine-year-olds singing opera. Not only are the arias generally age-inappropriate, but they make vocal demands on the singer that often requires a training period longer than the child has been alive! Less publicly, but equally common, are singers who wrong-foot themselves with inappropriate repertoire at local singing competitions and music festivals. They might pick …
