I've been teaching piano for over 11+ years. My teaching style is we go at the pace you want to go. I let the student tell me what their goals are, and we work around it.

My philosophy: everyone is their own person. No one is built the same!

About Kate
I graduated from UTSA in the Fall of 2008, with a Bachelor of Music with a Vocal and Piano Emphasis. I have been teaching private piano and voice for 11+ years. I am fun, energetic, and patient. It brings me such joy to be able to teach children something I am so passionate about!

*** Lesson Details ***
Students need to practice 15 minutes a day. They are required to complete everything that is assigned to them that week, and be prepared for their lessons for the following week. A beginner usually in 3-6 months should be familiar with reading the basic treble and bass clef staff, be familiar with dynamic markings, beginning to understand basic music theory, tempo and minimal sight reading. Voice students study basic vocal technique, and learning to sing properly.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I usually provide the books after the paren
ts have paid for them. They should have their own instrument to work with.

*** Specialties ***
I use the Alfred method for piano.

Within minutes, I could tell that she was a very haopy person and that I would have no problem talking with her. She also challenged me to sing outside my range. I felt unsure but she encouraged me and I did okay. I can't wait for my next lesson.

I can teach from beginner levels to late intermediate and help in preparation for early advanced levels.

About Miriam
My name is Miriam and I've been teaching piano since 2003 to young students starting from age 4 to teenagers.

I began studying music in the 6th grade playing clarinet in the band until I entered college at Texas A&M International University, where I studied for a Bachelor's Degree in Music with a minor in Studio Art. I am classified a senior and I plan to complete my Bachelor's Degree as soon as I am able to resume my education.

Piano has always been a passion of mine. I would teach myself to play popular classics until I was able to take private piano lessons with Dr. Fritz Gechter at Texas A&M International University. Since then, I have taught at several music studios and privately at students' homes.

I am always eager to share my experience and knowledge in music with children or young students who are looking to lea
rn and have fun.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a friendly and very patient instructor. I like using Alfred's Basic Piano Library books for students at the beginner level.

For those at the intermediate level, I use Hanon's "The Virtuoso Pianist in 60 Exercises" and assign pieces from classical composers to modern artists, depending on the style of music the student is looking to learn.

By 3-6 months, I expect my students to know basic piano techniques, including fingerings, music notes, rhythms, and major scales apart from assigned musical repertoire.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a full-size (88-key) digital piano set up in the living room in my apartment where I conduct all lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, contemporary - anything the student is yearning to learn.

* Finally, a comprehensive instrumental course for students of all ages and experience levels that includes:

- Information on brands, supplies, and guidance with professional organizations

- Weekly lessons to develop and improve skills with proper finger placement, dexterity, warm-up repertoire, dynamics, rhythmic meters, and more!

- Music theory (includes music history topics) with emphasis on technology and composition

- Maintenance and repair tips

- Advanced techniques: Pedal techniques, ornamentation, improvising, world music styles, etc.

- Chamber music (accompaniment) to prepare for public performances

About Neil
I am a music educator of 13 years: I have taught both middle school band and choir to at-risk youth, as well as elementary music at a private Christian academy. My principal instrument is the saxophone (which I began playing in 1990), and I play many other instruments. As for my formal education: I received the Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2005 from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; and the Master of Music Education degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA, 2010).

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal is to create life-long musicians...
I focus on the needs and interests of my students, thereby representing all musical genres and including all cultures.
My lessons are structured into activities that incorporate various aspects of music appreciation:
Music theory, music history, music technology, perfor
mance practice, etc. (making such lessons comprehensive)

*** Studio Equipment ***
Everyone needs their own instrument. In my studio, I have to keyboards side-by-side so that the student can both see and hear what I am teaching without ever swapping seats. As for percussion, my practice pad station serves for warm-up rudiments, whereas I have 2 drum-sets facing each other so that again, students can both see & hear what I am doing without needing to spend lesson time switching seats. For all other instruments, I recommend buying new for any brand that is not among the top 3 brands for that instrument...this ensures a working instrument in which to learn from and practice on without necessarily spending top dollar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I always bring my instrument, metronome, tuner, music stand and stand for my instrument, including lesson materials and supplies.

*** Specialties ***
All genres, all styles & all cultures! I teach students of all ages--mostly at my home studio, but I also travel to students' homes, churches, and, as an alternative during the Summer only, I am willing to meet with students in the Practice Rooms in the Fine Arts Building at UTSA.

I teach beginner level piano only. And I teach very well with the little ones. We have lots and lots of fun on piano with books from Faber and Bastien. We explore the piano sounds, highs and lows, and find all the C's across the vast piano keyboard. We look for lots of interesting things the keyboard can do. I truly enjoy my little ones who take beginner piano with me. Learning piano young really helps to branch over into other instruments later in middle school and high school. I encourage all young children to start on piano first before seeking other instruments. A year of piano in a child's life is a lifetime of music education for the rest of the growing years!

About Clare
My training started when I was very young, age 7, with piano lessons. Since then, I have been playing music my whole life, and I love it! I received my Bachelor's in Music Performance 2001, and will receive a Master's in Music Education in 2017. I am currently looking for students for my private studio for ages 5 - 75, in string instruments violin, viola, cello, and beginner piano!

I take very young students, ages 5 -7, on violin or piano, and I would love to get more of the little ones interested in music! The lessons are also a great "mommy and me time" format, a great way to spend time with your child! I have found lots of success with this age group, by using a curriculum that I have developed which is based on the Suzuki method mixed in with classical training and fiddle training. Although I am not Suzuki certified, I use conce
pts and materials taken from the master teacher, Suzuki. From studying his philosophy and principals through research, I have found the Suzuki method to be a very holistic and "easy-to-understand" teaching method for young ages.

For adult students, I have found success teaching a curriculum that just lets you play music and develop a love for your instrument. I mainly teach adults using lots of music from pop tunes, holiday music, fiddle and Americana music. My curriculum for adults is more about making music and less about playing scales and etudes, although focus on technique is integrated within the type of music books we use.

I also teach high school, middle school and elementary school students all instruments, violin, viola, and cello.
Students excel at a very high level with my training. This group will be asked to study music in the classical training method with scales, etudes, and standard classical repertoire, and help with their school orchestra music. Please inquire about training for this age group in person.

*** Lesson Details ***
Beginner lessons are great fun! Watch how the instrument turns into clay that molds to your hand, your musical talent. I love to see the amazement in the student when they realize playing a musical instrument is not as difficult as it may look. Each subsequent lesson is a building process, building upon the foundation from the previous lesson. It is imperative that students practice! Practice whenever you get a chance, even a little bit goes a long way. Pick up the violin for ten minutes while you wait for the meal to cook in the evening or waiting for the laundry to finish. Then, find some time to sit quietly in a comfortable space and focus just on the tone and quality of your playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My home studio.

*** Specialties ***
I also hold a yearly spring recital to allow my students to perform, all ages included. This is always great fun and very rewarding! Plus, I'm really excited about my adult students, who are "up and coming" artists! I'm looking to start an adult ensemble for a separate recital to showcase their hard work and enjoyment of playing for the sake of playing a musical instrument! Please inquire about the adult group, even if you have just a little bit of interest in learning the fantastic violin, viola, cello, or piano! It is great fun!

I've been teaching all ages since 1991. As a full Scholarship student, I started by tutoring my fellow Piano Performance Majors, now I get joy watching children learn. I was taught by the rigid Russian method by contemporaries of Van Cliburn & Emanuel Ax who were all students of Rhosinna Lhevine. My approach is quite different, but still pass along the gems of wisdom and musicianship instilled in my musical lineage. Learn how, what, and how fast you want. I'm your guide for your musical journey!

About Roni
Are you or your child interested in learning how to play piano? I am a former child prodigy and an experienced soloist / teacher whose talent was fostered by the highest of Russian Classical Pianist Pedigrees from a very young age. I have a lot to share. Learning the piano, isn't just about learning notes and playing them; it's about creating music, and conveying a story! I know how to teach that! And for all the moms out there- that means NOT having to listen to endless harsh ping-pang bland robotic piano practice. My goal is to create music from day 1. I have been teaching on and off since I was 18 in 1991. I formerly taught at a Yamaha School, and taught in my home on my beautiful Yamaha C7, but now being new to Texas, I will travel to you. My rates are very competitive, and I will give you a strong foundation, instill the art of
musicianship and teach you skills you can apply on your own and at your own pace. Learning an instrument should be fun and stress-free to foster a love of creating music. I enjoy teaching most, when you and/or your child are challenged in a fun and relaxed atmosphere! Please contact me if you have any questions. I am new to the San Antonio area, and am only looking to take on 5 students at the moment so I can who sure to bring my best for you. 🎶

I highly recommend Roni if you are interested in learning to play the piano or improving your existing piano skills.

As a retiree I found it difficult to find a teacher that would take on an older / beginning student and offer in home lessons. Her schedule is flexible and she is very accommodating of my obligations. I am extremely fortunate to have found Roni. She is an incredible pianist (she can provide links to some of her performances) who makes learning fun. I actually look forward to my lessons. She takes the time to learn about your musical interest and goals and then tailors your lessons to provide you with a positive, motivating and enjoyable experience.

Roni B is a treasure! So wonderful! We are so blessed to have found her.

There were several options in the valley, and you can never know if there will be that 'connection' with a new teacher.

Roni is patient and she got me! Knew exactly what I needed to learn.
I have had other teachers, and RONI B IS THE BEST!!!

Im giving her card to ALL my friends, even if they don't play piano!

Thank you Roni. Now don't get too busy so you can't work with you number one student lol!

I have been playing music since I was 3 years old and have been teaching for the last 5 years. I set up every lesson plan to match what the student would like to learn as well as making sure to meet the parents goals and expectations. I work with all ages and all levels. I also work very well with those that have special needs such as Autism. Every lesson is engaging and exciting, it is never a dull moment.

About April
I picked up music when I was very young and have never looked back. I started with the piano and then moved on to the violin, of which I competed regularly in up until high school. In high school I switched the viola and found it to me even more amazing. During high school I competed again in music between schools, the San Diego Youth Orchestra. I currently work with several students with special needs such as Autism and other Neurological delays. My son is Autistic and music was a great way for him to express himself. I found that the other children I work with on the spectrum have more abilities to express themselves through music then with words. I also work with students that are not yet comfortable with themselves and getting them to breath and enjoy the music helps bring them out of their shells.

I regularly find myself jamming o
ut with another music instructor every chance we get. Music is a great relief and enjoyment that I want to share with as many people as I can. I am currently in college getting my Bachelors degree in History with a minor in Music.

When I teach I want them to leave learning something new and different each day. I find it incredibly important for the teacher to relate towards the students and adapt to each students individual needs. I would first like to start off by asking them what they would want out of their time with me and I intend to the best of my ability fulfill those needs. As an individual who has played the roles of student and tutor I don't want my youth to deceive anyone. I'm willing to offer the large amounts of music theory, musicality, and even practice as a person who has done 10 years of music. I have done choir in High School, AP music theory as well, and at the age of 18 I won a medal at the Texas State Solo Ensemble Contest, a UIL( University Interscholastic League) hosted event.

About Nicholas
Pleasure to meet you my music career spans through most of my life from kindergarten to high school. I achieved a medal in the UIL solo ensemble contest as a participant in that competition. Other specialties involve music theory, and singing alongside piano playing. I believe I have the qualifications to teach students the fundamentals and foundation for all music. As a person who has been around different variations of said art form, singing, choir, orchestra and even band. I would like to teach clients the importance of creativity with respect to the individual. The ultimate goal is to provide something different no matter where they so happen to be on the spectrum of musical knowledge. I've actively pursued and studied music ever since I was little and it stills follows me now while I'm in college. I am confident in saying I could off
er something different to their learning experience which will follow them all throughout their musical progression.
