I teach on a full size digital upright piano. Students are required to have an instrument to practice on at home.. Digital or Acoustic pianos are recommended for students. However a keyboard is fine for beginners. Preferably a full size with touch sensitivity

About Tracy
My name is Tracy. I am so excited for the chance to be working with you. Here is a little background on my musical training and experience.

I started taking piano lessons at the age of 12 from Karen Hudson, (a highly respected piano teacher in San Antonio), using the Suzuki Piano Method (an advanced Japanese curriculum). Although I started a little later than the average student, I discovered right away that I had a great love and passion for the instrument.
I joined my church praise and worship team when I was 15 and have been playing on praise and worship teams ever since. I have worked with beginners all the way to professional musicians and band leaders and have attended several music conferences (including Hillsong Conference in Sydney, Australia.)

My senior year of high school I studied under renowned Russian Concert Piani
st Anya Grockovski at the San Antonio School for Inquiry and Creativity. From there I studied with Elizabeth Gutierrez as a music student at University of Texas at San Antonio, and then received my bachelors of arts in Music Marketing. Throughout High School and College I performed in numerous recitals and local competitions.

While attending UTSA, I was the band leader for the UTSA Campus Crusade for Christ Praise and Worship team for 2 years.

During my music studies at UTSA, I was trained in classical music performance, history, theory and Jazz performance.

I have been teaching since the age of 15. I love teaching piano and music theory to students of all ages! I have taught private lessons and group lessons with students ranging from 3 to senior citizens. I have also been a certified Music Together teacher since 2011 (a music program for kids aged birth-5), and teach with the Treehouse Music Together center.

*** Lesson Details ***
Classical music and Music Theory are the main part of the curriculum I use to teach. I use different types of curriculum including the Music Tree, Alfred Methods, etc... based on students skill level and preferences.I do teach the Suzuki Method to older children and/or adults if it is a good match for the student.

I like to give students a well rounded repertoire so upon request, I teach contemporary music as well, this usually includes Disney, Pop, Christmas, Praise and Worship songs and anything else students want to learn.

I try to make sure my students are enjoying what they are learning and having fun while expanding their musical knowledge and becoming a more proficient musician.

*** Studio Equipment ***
There is an electric piano set up in a designated music room with a sitting area for parents

*** Specialties ***
I was instructed in the Suzuki Piano Method until I graduated high school. I used Suzuki exclusively for the first several years. Since 2002 I have also added Alfred's, Faber & Faber and other curriculum to match each students individual needs.

My 5 year old son had never taken piano lessons before but he has been drawn to Tracy and her teaching style like a moth to a light. She does an excellent job at keeping his wiggly body and active mind focused and engaged. It's amazing how much he retains from his lessons. Tracy also matched a lesson plan perfectly to his learning style - he's having fun and probably doesn't even realize how much he's learning. Music is such an important part of a child's education, and we are so glad to have found Tracy.

I've been teaching piano for over 11+ years. My teaching style is we go at the pace you want to go. I let the student tell me what their goals are, and we work around it.

My philosophy: everyone is their own person. No one is built the same!

About Kate
I graduated from UTSA in the Fall of 2008, with a Bachelor of Music with a Vocal and Piano Emphasis. I have been teaching private piano and voice for 11+ years. I am fun, energetic, and patient. It brings me such joy to be able to teach children something I am so passionate about!

*** Lesson Details ***
Students need to practice 15 minutes a day. They are required to complete everything that is assigned to them that week, and be prepared for their lessons for the following week. A beginner usually in 3-6 months should be familiar with reading the basic treble and bass clef staff, be familiar with dynamic markings, beginning to understand basic music theory, tempo and minimal sight reading. Voice students study basic vocal technique, and learning to sing properly.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I usually provide the books after the paren
ts have paid for them. They should have their own instrument to work with.

*** Specialties ***
I use the Alfred method for piano.

Ms. Dorla has been an excellent piano teacher to both of my children. They started group lessons when they were very young and moved to private lessons after a few years. Ms. Dorla employs an advanced pedagogical teaching style which is very eclectic making it a unique experience for each student. Group lessons are a wonderful, fun experience where Ms. Dorla incorporates all of students' senses so that they not only "play" music but "experience" it. Private lessons are uniquely designed with the students' interests and abilities in mind using a research-based curriculum that includes diversity of activities which include technology. Having witnessed my children's progress in their playing abilities and their increasing love of music I cannot hesitate in recommending Ms. Dorla to anyone that is interested in receiving top quality music education.

* Finally, a comprehensive instrumental course for students of all ages and experience levels that includes:

- Information on brands, supplies, and guidance with professional organizations

- Weekly lessons to develop and improve skills with proper finger placement, dexterity, warm-up repertoire, dynamics, rhythmic meters, and more!

- Music theory (includes music history topics) with emphasis on technology and composition

- Maintenance and repair tips

- Advanced techniques: Pedal techniques, ornamentation, improvising, world music styles, etc.

- Chamber music (accompaniment) to prepare for public performances

About Neil
I am a music educator of 13 years: I have taught both middle school band and choir to at-risk youth, as well as elementary music at a private Christian academy. My principal instrument is the saxophone (which I began playing in 1990), and I play many other instruments. As for my formal education: I received the Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2005 from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; and the Master of Music Education degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA, 2010).

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal is to create life-long musicians...
I focus on the needs and interests of my students, thereby representing all musical genres and including all cultures.
My lessons are structured into activities that incorporate various aspects of music appreciation:
Music theory, music history, music technology, perfor
mance practice, etc. (making such lessons comprehensive)

*** Studio Equipment ***
As a musician of 27 years, I believe it is the "musician that makes the instrument", and not the other way around. That is, I do not believe it is necessary to purchase the 'top' brand for your instrument in order to achieve the desired sound. Frequent practice builds skills and results in the desired tones people wish to hear.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I always bring my instrument, metronome, tuner, music stand and stand for my instrument, including lesson materials and supplies.

*** Specialties ***
All genres, all styles & all cultures! I teach students of all ages--mostly at my home studio, but I also travel to students' homes, churches, and, as an alternative during the Summer only, I am willing to meet with students in the Practice Rooms in the Fine Arts Building at UTSA.

Piano is a great instrument to start learning the musical language on! Great for anyone at any point in their life. I can help find repertoire for a student any skill level- Old Mac Donald to Op.33 in G minor by Rachmaninov.

If you're child is 5 years old and you think they would enjoy piano, send 'em over!

If you are 80 and have been wanting to play the piano... come on over!

If you've been playing for several years and just want someone to help develop your skills, let's do it!

And of course... if you're into jazz, let's swing.

About Michael
Hello! I'm Michael. Music has been 'my thing' since I found a guitar in my Mom's closet at age 9 and didn't move until figured out "Mary Had A Little Lamb". That's the curiosity I try to instill in my students! Although I started playing trumpet and guitar in elementary school, my music education at University of Texas in SA opened up musical doors I never knew existed! Currently I teach trumpet, guitar, piano, drums and saxophone, ages 6 to 45, as well as play trumpet around town when the sun goes down. I passionately emphasize music reading ability, improv techniques through jazz studies, and a solid music theory foundation- no matter what age you are!!!

LESSONS DETAILS
Every lesson, concepts are reviewed and emphasized, then we crawl forward through new music, discussing the technique and theory of every piece we play. I've accumul
ated an expansive library of teaching material to create a very diverse path when exploring the wonderful world of music. I always try to include a classical piece and a jazz piece in the repertoire. Popular music and original compositions are fun encouraged too!
Whatever your idea of music is, we will build on it, playing pieces you want to play!

THE INSTRUMENTS
A variety of instruments are at our disposal here in the studio, including...

Piano & electric keyboard, acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet & cornet, clarinet, flute, upright acoustic bass, 7-piece drum set & auxiliary percussion.

THE HOUSE
The house is very friendly and comfortable, great with children and families. Lots of natural light! There's a large front porch patio to relax on while you wait with a good book, or you can hang out inside with the siblings watching something on Netflix. I'll even give you the Wifi password ;)

I've taught from ages 4 to 74 on piano in my teaching studio, which has been kicking since 2001, after earning my degree in music performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging! As your teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. **NEW STUDENT SPECIAL!** I have just shifted my studio to online only, and I have studio times available, and I am excited to meet new students! From now through October 2017, I am offering a new online student special, where students can purchase lessons at a reduced rate! Students may purchase as many lessons at this rate as they like, but in November, rates will return to regular tuition. ($28 per 30-min session). I look forward to meeting you! Call Take Lessons today to sign up!

About Rachel
If you are ready to take on music lessons, your life will never be the same. Music enriches our minds and lives in many ways, including expanding our expectations past what we think is possible for ourselves! I've taught hundreds of students over the past 15 years, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing. I've been described by students as encouraging and fun, and my teaching style is warm, positive, and relaxed. I have worked with many students, including some with learning disabilities, physical limitations, PTSD, and just plain ol' stage fright! I work with you to set your own goals, and I look forward to helping you reach them... It's what I love about what I do.

I began my violin studies at age 9, with my humble public school string program
. I continued through high school and into college, playing and singing with auditioned district ensembles, school musicals, and chamber choirs, coming in as runner up in my high school's concerto competition, and performing twice in Carnegie Hall. I studied opera, vocal pedagogy, and passed my piano proficiency exam from the advanced class.

In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and soon after, joined the Kansas City-based Celtic folk group, Tullamore. I have enjoyed 13 seasons with this lauded regional group, playing countless esteemed Celtic festivals across the country and embarking on five international tours of Ireland and Scotland, as well as a Caribbean cruise hosted for our fans. Our sixth international tour is scheduled for 2019 in Scotland.

In 2014, I relocated to Hampton, Virginia, where I auditioned for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic, and currently play as a first violinist.

In 2015, I began playing with Brackish Water Jamboree, an award-winning Americana band, featured on NPR's Out of the Box series with Paul Shugrue, and host of the NorFOLK Festival.

Throughout this time, I have enjoyed teaching a full and enriching music studio of students: hosting recitals, open mics, and ensemble rehearsals, and watching students achieve goals they didn't know were even possible. I continue to teach online via Skype, FaceTime, and Google Hangouts, and I look forward to working with you to accomplish your own musical aspirations!

If you would like to learn how to play your favorite pop song, standard classical pieces, or just learn the basics of piano, study with me! I will be sure to teach you how to read music notation, understand all types of rhythms, improve technique with chords and scales, and discover artists to listen and learn from.

About Alexandra
I received my Bachelors from UMASS Amherst in trumpet performance and music education. While attending I was trained to become an educator for K-12 grades, receiving experience as an elementary and high school assistant. I have taught private lessons for the past 6 years to all age groups. Throughout the years I have learned a lot about various teaching methods, the importance of curriculum, and how to hold a student's interest.

Recently, while attending NYU to receive my Masters in Jazz Performance, I have been teaching Undergraduate non-music major students trumpet and piano. All of these students have varied in musical expertise, interest in artists/genres, and of course personality and learning style. Through this I have gained much experience in how to teach the same concept different ways. Reading music, classical and jazz tongu
ing, phrasing, sight reading, and range are just a few concepts I focus on with students.

As a classical trumpet player, I understand the demands of becoming a soloist or orchestral member through learning the necessary repertoire and technique. As a jazz trumpet player, I am able to teach ear training, how to create lines and understand harmony, as well as the physical demands of range and articulation.

I am also able to teach piano, I have 4 years of classical piano experience. In addition to my personal studies and teaching experiences. I have taught piano to a range of age groups as well (5-25). Based on skill level, I use certain method books to include scales, chords, reading music, rhythm, and basic musicianship skills.

It would be wonderful to have you as my student, to train, work, and grow together as great musicians!
