I have been teaching piano lessons for several years now, to students ranging from 4 to 50 years of age. In the first lesson, students can expect to learn the musical alphabet, location of middle C, the correct posture and hand position, as well as some simple musical exercises depending upon the student's age and ability. My goal in teaching is to help people gain an understanding and appreciation of the piano, as well as the workings of music as a whole. While my background is in classical piano, I enjoy working with students on any style of music that utilizes sheet music.

Hello and welcome to my teaching world! I love teaching piano, as it has always been my strongest instrument. I start students as young as four or five (six to seven ideal).

Most of my students are, or become honor (AP) students. Learning music is especially helpful in learning math as music and math are based on patterns. Engineers and musicians have the same thing in common: They learn by recognizing patterns.

For young beginners, I use Alfred's Beginner course. For students 9+ years of age, I use John Thompson's Modern or Adult course(s) - students will get quicker results - with emphasis on classical technique after students become familiar with five-finger hand positions, intervals and dynamics.

Both courses utilize practice CDs or online practice tools/apps that contain pre-recorded accompaniments, so students feel as though they are playing along in a band, or orchestra - this is EXCELLENT for learning rhythm.

If a student leans more toward accompanying ...

My daughter has been under the wonderful care of Ms. Taylor for over 2 years now and she has learned and grown tremendously under her care. From not knowing how to read notes or any finger placements, to reading notes and switching things up ( different tempos) while playing the piano on her own.

Ms. Taylor pays attention to detail and is very easy going that makes it easy for my daughter to learn. She is very compassionate. She has also taught her breathing techniques along with voice training. She keeps her grounded and motivated. My daughter has a passion for music and is in the best possible hands. She is very flexible and accommodating!

Thank you so much for everything you do to help her flourish!!

We LOVE and APPRECIATE YOU!!

Ms T she are the greatest ever, she stick with what she are teaching you slow going but accurate, ooh yes she are a real teacher (the best yet)
Kirby M.
Susan is a excellent teacher, she has shown great patience and allows you to learn at your own pace. For an adult student with very little childhood training and having taken lessons once before as an adult she has done a masterful job learning what I want to learn and has been very open minded on which direction to go in as far as my lessons go. I am amazed that she has pulled some thoughts and ideas out of me that I didn't realize I had and has taught me patience in learning the piano.
If you are an adult student wanting to learn the piano or advance in piano Susan is the perfect teacher, she is flexible and takes the time to learn what your individual goals are in the piano. She has changed courses with my learning based on my interests, and for that I am thankful. If you are looking for a very talented music teacher (especially if you have done lessons before and have been thinking of giving it one last try) I would highly recommend Susan as the person to work with. 5 stars all the way!!

Hi there!

In piano lessons, I go over ALL the elements of studying piano, which include: sight reading, ear training and music theory. My goal is for you to be able to approach music ANY way you choose so you can figure out your favorite songs by reading or by ear. My goal is for you to feel so free that you can eventually freestyle and improvise.

We start class with warm ups and theory. If you are new to the concept of scales and chords, these will feel like finger drills at first. But once you push past the first few months, I will be able to show you how to make them sound MUSICAL. Remember, nothing good happens overnight! I often compare learning piano to the equivalent of learning a sport, a foreign language AND an art.

Let's play your favorite songs soon! I'm looking forward to working with you.

About Keira

Hi there! So you're passionate about music? Do you want to feel more connected to what you're doing? Are you feeling stuck and frustrated, as if you hit a plateau? Or maybe you just have certain goals you want to reach and need someone to hold you accountable. Do your thoughts and self

6 Tools to Learn Piano at Home

Piano may be one of the toughest instruments to learn, because of all the multitasking required! You have to be able to read two different musical lines simultaneously, and keep track of what both your left and right hands are doing, all while your foot works the pedals. While most schools have classes to teach students band instruments or stringed instruments, few schools offer piano instruction. This means that most piano students learn how to play at home and in private piano lessons, instead …
