Mainly for younger students, I teach piano basics, including reading music, chords and lead work

About Ryan
Hey There! My name is Ryan B. I play and teach guitar, bass and drums, and piano and would love to teach you or help you improve your abilities! I have been playing all four instruments for 25 years, and I have a personal, laid-back style that helps connect with each student.

I have been with TakeLessons for over five years now, and am truly blessed to have worked with so many great students.I will teach you what YOU want to play, regardless of style or genre you like in music. I design my lessons around YOU, and what YOU want to learn!

Let's talk guitar! Guitar is the ultimate instrument to learn! It is versatile and portable and you can learn quickly, regardless of your favorite style. I teach acoustic and electric guitar. I cover basics, such as chords, scales and solo work. I cover a wide range of artists such as: The B
eatles, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. Regardless of your favorite band or style, I can help you accomplish your goals!

Piano is one of the most important instruments to learn, especially for children. The benefits are endless. For piano, I teach beginner through intermediate students. Piano is a popular choice because it has a very friendly layout with the keyboard. I use a proven 6 level method to take you from Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star to Ode to Joy! I cover how to read sheet music and cover a wide variety of musical styles!

Do you like the deep, powerful sound of the bass guitar? Well, I cover that too! The bass is a FUN instrument that is very friendly to learn. If you ever want to join a band, the bass is essential instrument, because it goes well with the drums. I cover a wide range of styles from blues, funk, rock and jazz! Go for it!

As a kid did you set up pots and pans or pillows and hit them with spoons like I did? Well, then the drums may be for you! You can learn drums with a pair of sticks! Drums are a total BLAST to play, and if you are not one who wishes to read sheet music, then the drums are perfect for you! I cover a TON of different styles, and if you have a favorite drummer, you can learn to play like him or her relatively quickly!

Need academic help? Well I can help with that too! I tutor in most subjects, including: Math, Science, Reading, Writing Skills and ACT and SAT prep

Here is a breakdown of specific areas of subjects I teach and tutor with:

Yana Giles has been the best piano teacher I have ever taken lessons from out of all 5 teachers I've had. She is patient, encouraging and motivational through every piece she assigns me. My appreciation for music grew an enormous amount after beginning lessons with her. My hand technique improved, as well as performance ability. I recommend her to anyone looking to learn the piano! Even if you have already learned the piano and wish to improve somehow, Yana will show you a new understanding of music that you never thought you could have.

Tammye has been my daughters piano teacher going on five years now. She is laid back and my daughter has always enjoyed playing the piano. She has never dreaded lesson or asked to not play. I've heard of some kids crying after lessons and this has never ever been the case with Tamye. My daughter started out loving lessons with Tamye and still does... she is in middle school now. She has never felt pressured. She has always come away from the lessons having learned something new and now plays beautifully. This year my five year old boy has started lessons with Ms. Tammye and he also is enjoying them. Tamye has been the perfect teacher for our family. We took a summer break to try out a local music school (same price and we had to drive there) and it didn't compare to the quality we get with Ms. Tammye. As long as our kids are playing piano they'll be having Ms. Tammye as their teacher.

This "teacher" doesn't know anything about music, let alone playing the trumpet, or any instrument. Complete HACK with zero skills who shouldn't even be charging $15 an hour!!! Also, she was extremely rude in all correspondence with me. I'm beyond thankful that I didn't have to smell her likely putrid, unwashed, unkempt stench through the webcam or in person. Stay FAR away.

Learn to play a variety of styles of music while also learning the basics of music theory.

About Melodie
Music has been a very important part of my life for a long time. I began taking piano lessons at age 9 and also started as a church musician that same year. Some people would say I was a very fast learner! I was, and still am, very interested in every aspect of music. I began singing in church and school a few years after that. I have played and performed a variety of styles of music but I have the most experience with Christian music, classical, pop and R & B. I am confident that I can teach you whatever style you are interested in! I am currently a high school choral director and a minister of music for church. I also play in a band with a group of my co-workers where we perform mostly pop, rock and oldies. I have been doing private lessons since I was in high school and have taught school music for 25 years. I've taught genera
l education, choir, band and general music. I also do some composing.

I attended Jarvis Christian College (1984-1989) where I majored in All-Level Music Education. I received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in May of 1989.

After I was hired at my first school, I started working on additional certification at Texas Christian University and Texas Wesleyan University. I completed the required subjects and received certification in general education in 1991. I am currently certified in 3 areas: General Music 1-8, All-Level Music K-12 and General Education 1-8.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that all students can and will learn something if they put forth some effort! I also believe that learning music should be fun! I'm a pretty laid back person but I am very serious about my time and yours being well spent! I use a method book for piano lessons, as well as, a variety of other materials based on your interest and level. I also use a variety of materials for voice lessons. At the first lesson I will find out what your goals for learning music are. I will also find out what types of music you are interested in and we'll go from there! I do believe in challenging students. I do expect you to sincerely want to learn and to demonstrate your interest through weekly practice and attendance at your lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboards, microphones, recording equipment, music stands and supplemental books and materials

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students will need to have the required lesson book. All students will need a spiral notebook and a pen or pencil. Voice students will also need a black binder.

Ms. Brookins is an excellent teacher. Although I had a few ideas of how to sing, I had no idea how technical it was. After a couple of weeks of struggling, she helped me further understand the complexity of the voice. She is great at going at the students pace while trying to help them grow musically.

My goal as an instructor is to provide my students with an opportunity to discover their own musical potentials. From breaking the ice from playing for the very first time, to perfecting even the most structured and difficult pieces, I feel there are no limits. I feel comfortable teaching in any genre and always tailor my classes to match my students own individual learning style.

In my lessons, I highlight important principles right from the start, such as posture, proper fingering, and rhythm training, to ensure no bad habits form that later are hard to break. As we become more confident in our playing, we transfer some of the traits contained within us. Those traits become the character and style of our "musical speech," which will help to define us as musicians. I recommend books and provide sheet music when we start learning songs. Learning music with me has been said by many of my students as, "the most fun they have ever had playing music."

About Melody
My musical experience began at the age of 4 on the piano. I have been classically trained for most of my life. I have performed on soundtracks, played with bands (in genres from Jazz to Metal), and accompanied choirs. I have taught intro to piano and music theory since the age of 15. Currently, I teach throughout the Dallas metroplex, play in several bands, as well as write music for Television and Film.

I see music as a language. Once it is mastered, it can be shared with anyone, anywhere. My goal as an instructor is to provide my students with an opportunity to discover their own musical potentials. I signed up with Melody for something unique - learning to speak from my diaphragm and speak with more bravado and projection. I've always been frustrated by how my voice goes out if I speak loudly in a crowded room.

She took me through different exercises she's borrowed from her singing lessons and applied it to my specific case. I have a much better idea of how my voice should sound and where the sound should come from. Although I still revert back to my old ways, I recognize it and from here on out it's about me actively trying to improve it with the skills provided to me.

Experience of over 20 years teaching the beginner to intermediate piano student! My years as a teacher and performer enable me to quickly assess and develop skills while correcting bad habits. As I get to know each new student the lesson focus will be customized to suit their needs and goals. With practice, progress can be made quickly to be playing your favorite songs before you know it! Lessons will also provide consistent training in theory, technique and note reading skills.

About Stan
I am a professional singer and pianist with degrees from the Eastman School of Music. I have taught piano and voice privately for many years and have served on the music faculties of the Aspen Music Festival, AIMS, Southwestern Seminary and Union University.

I love working with young singers and helping them discover their talent. With an understanding of proper breath control and vocal placement the voice can develop quickly in size, range and quality. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing a student's passion and creativity blossom through their instrument!

Piano training is essential for any serious musician. Developing keyboard skills is fun and rewarding, and also lays the groundwork for music theory, ear training and note reading. Young students can learn the basics very quickly but a person of any age with an interest in musi
c can master the skills with practice. I take great joy in guiding every new student through the process!

Piano is the instrument of choice for songwriters and composers. As such it is integral to learn for any instrumentalist or vocalist who wants to begin writing ad composing.

About Anthony
I am a professional vocalist, instrumentalist ( guitar, mandolin, piano, bass, ukulele), actor, writer and string theorist with a degree in Theatre from Oklahoma State University. I sing, act and play instruments for professional Equity theatres in the Dallas area and have music directed community and childrens productions. I am largely self taught and consider myself my own best student and once in college built a guitar completely out of materials found at home depot. I have also studied voice, piano and guitar with several industry professionals.

I place a large emphasis on ear training, which helps you to hear the structure and flow of music. Ear training is imperative for more advanced students to learn before they can begin improvisation. Its like giving a man a fish vs teaching a man to fish. Its also a great transition in
to the theory part of your instrument specifically for kids who often pick up and latch on to the concept. Ear training properly though is not only a daily process but can be difficult for some so if you feel like this isn't for you that is okay because it all comes down to what you want.

My voice students will learn to relax into their singing and to strengthen their voice week to week. Each student receives a personalized plan of daily exercises based on their needs and weekly performance. I also offer audition coaching for those in the musical theatre community. For kids and beginners we start with basic breath control and diction. For more advanced students we work on improvisation

My instrumental students will begin by learning ear training and basic structure from there I make it about you and what you want to learn. I am a big believer in genre bending instruments. I for instance play jazz and blues mandolin. If you're wondering why you have never heard of this its because you can count the number of culturally relevant jazz and blues mandolinists on one hand. There are also reasonably few people who teach this as it is something so rarely done. If you have latched on to a particular genre of music I'd love to help you explore it.

Acting students are encouraged to dabble in all parts of theatre and film as many roles require you to be a jack of many trades. Character development and emoting convincingly is only part of the game.
