Guitar Resources in Fort Worth
By Robert M., Fort Worth Guitar Teacher
Are you considering taking guitar lessons in Dallas-Fort Worth? The Dallas-Fort Worth area has a rich music history and is home to guitar gods like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Vaughn and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and T-Bone Walker. My name is Robert M. and I am a proud Texan who teaches guitar in one of the best regions for cultivating the skills and soaking up the culture of this amazing instrument. Below are some local resources you can leverage to supplement your guitar lessons and perfect your skills.
If you’re a brand new buckaroo to guitar, then you’re going to need to ride into one of our big city music locations. There are a few landmark centers to seek out which include the popular SamAsh Music Store in addition to the national music supplier, Guitar Center. Guitar Center is the music industry giant that features a huge selection of affordable instruments at their two locations with one in North Dallas and their epicenter in the Dallas Central Store which features a fully operable studio.
If you want to shake off the corporate scene and visit some real local establishments, then you need to look no further than the real deal that is Charley's Guitar Shop. This historical music shop is a sanctuary with a glorious vintage guitar collection that is unsurpassed. Don't call yourself a Dallas guitarist until you have stopped by for a visit to the shop to learn about local legend and store founder, Charley Wirz.
In addition to this landmark, there are several more neighborhood stops that provide that southern charm such as Dallas Vintage Guitars, Dave Anderson's Zoo Music, as well as making the short drive out to Murphy's Music in Irving, Texas.
If you really want to catch some true Texas musicians, make sure you catch The Dallas International Guitar Festival which blows into town just before the heat of the summer. There is always a hot line up that features the best guitarists in the southwest as well as up-and-coming recording artists. This splendid showcase was created over 30 years ago by none other than Charley Wirz of Charley's Guitar Shop.
Do you have what it takes to join a band? Here in Dallas-Fort Worth, you have several opportunities to join in the good company of fellow musicians. I love walking around 7th St. or listening to some live music at the local speakeasies. You too can get your start by trying your music at some of the most popular lounges, dives, bookstores, and cafes across the area. You can drive over to The Half Price books or Dunn Brothers Coffee every third week of the month for open mic night or head over to Kay's Restaurant and LightHouse Coffee Shop. Make sure to also keep up with the music venues and concert halls for musicians coming through such as the Kessler Theater and Bass Hall.
Saddle up, get yourself a hat and some boots, and join in the line. Let's get you out there and discover how easy it is to read music notes, play around with a few country chords, and jam out to your favorite songs. Make the commitment and book your guitar lessons in Dallas-Fort Worth today!
