Ready to get better at drawing?!  I'd love to take you well beyond stick figures!  I help my students balance fundamentals with their own individual ideas to create original works in graphite pencil, colored pencil, oil pastel, ink, watercolor and acrylic.  Lessons are informative and fun.  I've taught K-12 and adults for 20 years, and am a full-time fine arts teacher at a college-prep school during the school year.  I have a Master's in Teaching and a BFA in Visual Art.

BEGINNING DRAWING 
Students will be introduced to the basics of line, value (shading), how to create volume (3-D), basic color theory, and basic observational exercises to help become a more accurate observer and artist.  Assignments are based on practicing skills and demonstrating mastery before advancing to Intermediate Drawing.

INTERMEDIATE DRAWING
Students continue strengthening their skills in drawing based on the fundamental elements (continuing content from Beginning Drawing level), as they advance into being introduced to modified and blind contour drawing, observational drawing, advancing color theory, tool mastery, creating depth and basic facial proportions.

ADVANCED DRAWING
Students are challenged with continued exercises and projects in 1 and 2-point perspective (with ability to recognize 3-point perspective), introduction to texture, basic human portraiture, creativity exercises, and assignments that require personal interpretation coupled with demonstration of skill-mastery.

I love art and teaching!  I have a BFA in Visual Arts and a Master's Degree in Teaching.  I'm a fully licensed teacher in the state of Oregon,  and have taught K-12 (and adults) for 20 years.  I've shown my own artwork in individual and group shows and have work in private collections mainly on the west coast.
I have three children (ages 16, 14, and 2), so addition to my teaching experience I am very confident in developmental stages and how visual art fits into them.  I am able to diversify lessons to accommodate the student's needs.  I'm enthusiastic and engaging...making lessons effective while continuing to build on the fundamentals.
