Painting & Printmaking
About Lyndsey A.
I am a graduate from both the Yale School of Art and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I have studied Fine Art, particularly painting and film history for over ten years. I am incredibly knowledgeable of the history of painting and of the contemporary art world. My experience teaching is mostly University level, teaching Painting and Introductory Video classes, though I also have worked closely with elementary level students on public art projects which consisted of painting and ceramic / clay sculptures and have private clients of all ages in Los Angeles.
I enjoy working with students that have a passion for making art, whatever their skill level may be. I believe that everyone possesses artistic talent and with the right guidance those talents can flourish. Teaching art and making art requires a curiosity and there can be a lovely symbiotic relationship where as a teacher I can also learn from the student. I enjoy seeing what genuinely excites students about making art and tailoring our lessons to their interests.
My most recent teaching experience is at Yale University where I co-taught two classes: Painting Materials and Techniques and Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking with a renowned documentary filmmaker. Painting Materials and techniques was taught alongside the Chief conservator of the Yale Center for British Art, where we taught a small group of students a more scientific approach to materials and techniques which in turn maximizes paint's archival properties. We utilized Yale Museums and conservation labs for a hands-on approach to explore the qualities of paint over time, allowing students to incorporate various historic techniques into their projects. Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking was taught alongside a renowned documentary filmmaker. We worked closely with students weekly, teaching a history of film, conducting weekly critiques, troubleshooting ideas and reworking the film's timelines. Overall we provided students with the tools needed to make a documentary film with substance and meaning.
I have also studied Art Theory, Film Theory and Art History which provides me with a well-rounded knowledge of art.
If you have questions about how our lessons will be conducted please feel free to contact me to see if we will be a good fit.
For painting classes, we will also focus on the foundations of drawing with an emphasis in color theory.
