I maintain very active performing and teaching careers. I have private voice studios on Long Island and in Manhattan and have taught singers and pianists in every genre of music for the last 27 years. I was on the faculty of New York University in the Music and Music Professions Department for 5 years. I was a coach in the Banff Centre's 'Voice through body and movement' workshop. Throughout my career as a vocal coach, I have worked with many cabaret artists as musical director, arranger and accompanist. Most notably, Debbie Boily's "Thank You for the Music"a one woman show with me at the piano, recorded live at Ovations in June 2004 Houston, Texas and subsequently performed in France, England and New York. Most recently, I recorded an opera with Jazz legend Anthony Braxton and a Jazz CD with Fred Ho. I have recorded operas in progress fo
r Atlantic Records and new works of composers on the BMI label. As a performer I won the prestigious Jessie award for "outstanding performance by an actor in a leading role" for my creation of the Marquis in "120 Songs for the Marquis de Sade" in the world premiere co-produced by Modern Baroque Opera and Vancouver New Music. My international debut was in Sweden, singing the lead role of Director in "Kafka's Chimp" by Welsh composer, John Metcalf. Originally from Hawaii I now reside in New York where I garden and raise chickens. Experience

I endeavor to teach you a natural and easy vocal production; to teach you a good solid technique of singing and to help you develop confidence and a polished delivery as a singing artist on and off the stage.

Our work together is an intuitive journey of discovery. Your participation in giving feedback about what you are experiencing during our sessions together as well as what happens in your practice sessions and in your performances is an invaluable tool for us to discover and develop your voice.

Practice: I encourage you to practice 20 minutes a day. An hour is ideal. Singing is like anything that you want to master: it improves with work and investigation. The voice is a curiously individual element of each person and aside from the basics of technique no two voices work the same. Our work together is to develop your unique voice and to discover how it works. Working outside our sessions on a regular basis will help you take ownership of your voice and technique.

Auditions/Performances: Please bring all music that you plan to sing in public to your sessions well in advance of the performance. We need time to investigate the music and its demands together; it will make you more confident and polished in your presentation.

In our Vocal sessions you will learn…
…how to use and blend the entire range of your voice.
… a healthy and free voice management.
1) You want to know what to expect from your vocal instrument on any given note and on any given word.
2) Training makes singing technique second nature; training relieves struggling to get the sound out and allows more focus on the performance.
3) Training allows for more tone coloration, a wider dynamic range, a full use and blending of the registers and greater stamina.
4) Extensive training and practical voice work gives a singer with long-range career aspirations the tools necessary to succeed in an incredibly competitive business. Whether the music is rock, pop, jazz, rhythm and blues, country, musical theater or classical, the trained singer can better meet the demands of a life on the stage as a singer.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated Music Space, music stand, grand piano, three windows

*** Specialties ***

Micheal is very passionate about his work . His passion comes across while teaching piano to me. I am an adult who decided to take up piano at a later age so it can be challenging but Michael encourages me to practice correctly and take my time to learn this new language of reading music so that I can move forward. Micheal makes it easy!
If you are looking for someone who loves his music and loves to teach Michael Douglas is the person for you. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking a professional teacher.

About Peter
I am energetic, experienced and creative music teacher with a proven ability to get the very best out of pupils, an expert at identifying the appropriate resources required for a subject matter and ensuring that they are used efficiently and effectively Most of my students read and play simple music after 2-3 classes of active instruction.

I posses an extensive classical music and music pedagogy training. All my musical knowledge and expertise was attained in Eastern Europe. I play and teach piano, upright bass, bass guitar and a range of other instruments. Over the years I taught basic piano, the beginner violin, viola, cello and a variety of school instruments such as recorder and xylophone. I also teach advanced music theory, harmony and basics of composition and orchestral arranging required for music colleges. I especially
find it rewarding working with beginners and the opportunity to show them the amazing world of listening, playing and making music.

The teaching begins with identifying student's musical needs, goals and tastes. Students are taught a stimulating, thorough, and graduated course of recital solos, theory, technical studies, and classic repertoire. For those wishing to pursue more of a classical approach to music, there are proven methods to accomplish that goal established by European master teachers and pedagogues. Also, I can teach the know-how of Jazz and Blues though gradual lessons that cover basic theory, scales and chords up to melody and harmony development.

*** Lesson Details ***
The learning process should be, for the most part, fun and based upon a strong relationship between the teacher and the student. Curriculum and lesson plans are based on student's abilities and aspirations with appropriate balance between theoretical and practical work. The lesson material is always carefully chosen, and when necessary, adapted to specific learning needs.

With a proper approach, everyone can learn to play music. Whether you want to pursue a music career, or just play for fun and enjoyment I can help you attain your goals. From basic piano and stringed instruments, to advanced theory, harmony, composition and improvisation to jazz, pop and rock.

Classes are not based on a single source or book. I provide other exercises in printed form for students to keep and take home.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two high end digital keyboards, two violins, viola, cello, upright bass, bass guitar and amplifier, music stands, stereo equipment with a large CD collection of just any conceivable music style.. Assorted school instruments: recorder (soprano and tenor), xylophone. Various music charts and a large library of music resources and other books; Extensive e-library and ability to print any required material on the spot. Instant access to many on-line sheet music resources.

Peter got right down to business and it is clear he knows what he is doing. My son is 5 and Peter kept his attention for the full 30 minutes, which is really saying something. At the end of the first lesson, my son was introduced to and could repeat note names; could play a five-note scale; and was learning his right hand from his left. I myself went to Juilliard and Yale for music and am so pleased Peter will be teaching our child(ren).

My philosophy of teaching is to fit the lessons to the student, always working on improving musical knowledge and skills. I’ve played with Christian for years and gotten a few lessons in the process. Christian is an easygoing, kind, and hilarious guy, and one of the most dedicated, professional, and tasteful players I know. As a teacher, he is patient, incredibly knowledgeable, and flexible in his approach. He’ll find new angles to explain the same subjects until he finds the right one that clicks with you.

About Laura
Hi! I'm Ms. Laura. I'm not a musical prodigy who started lessons when she was two years old. I was a regular seven year old who loved playing soccer and hanging out with my friends and family.

I showed some interest in music so my parent's signed me up for piano and I ended up really loving it! I was a pretty shy and quiet kid, but playing the piano gave me a way to express myself. Piano taught me how to grow musically, but also mentally and emotionally. It taught me how to work hard, appreciate different types of music and create my own style. It also allowed me to meet some amazing teachers who inspired me not only to be a better musician, but a better person.

I was classically trained by a nationally certified music teacher In junior high and high school and in college I studied piano pedagogy from a talented professor who attended
Julliard. I enjoyed competing and performing, but loved teaching others the most.

I went on to teach private piano lessons to many beginners of all ages, but specialize in helping children make their first introduction to piano a positive, fun experience, while giving them a strong foundation in proper technique.
