When I was studying theory in college I remember not having the need to study much for it.I realize that's because I was viewing it from my piano background view and was able to see the elements of music and how they relate to each other easily through my experience with the piano.

As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet. At first, each note took time to develop and I enjoyed the challenge. The trumpet allowed me to travel all over the Southeast later in life and even to China with a 1940's Radio Show. I enjoyed many top-level bands the kindled my love and passion for good music. I want to share that kindling with my students in a nurturing and guiding situation, just like my teachers gave me.
I used to go to lessons and become so motivated and inspired that I thought I could change the world. I always knew that I would want to give back exactly that. As my performance opportunities grew into venues like Churchill Grounds, The Rialto, and The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta
and Radio City Music Hall, 54 Below, The Jazz Standard, Bowery Ballroom, Shapeshifter and Flushing Town Hall in New York, my fire for wanting to develop my teaching did also. I was always thinking back to what my old teachers gave me, inspiration. I then understood that inspiration is the key to success in life.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons will be something the student looks forward to every week. We will work through common method books and learn material that the student has an interest in. For example, some students want to learn to play high notes, a popular song, improvise, or write their own songs. I am a laid back guy, but I do expect effort in the lessons and at home. I believe whatever you put into music is what you get out of it, and I will inspire and motivate the student to get as much out of the lessons as they can. Students will create, with my advisement, and update short term and long term goals every few months.

I have had several lessons so far with Gregory and as an experienced trumpet player can recommend him extremely highly.
I am getting back into the trumpet following a gap after playing for 10 years when I was at high school. Gregory has really helped getting my technique and sound going again, I have been really pleased with my improvement. He has a great demeanour and has been great fun to work with. He is also an excellent player, and is highly reliable and easy to schedule with.

I'm Mike, and I'm thrilled to be part of the TakeLessons team. I first picked up the guitar at the age of 5, and have never looked back! I began formal Jazz training in high school and continued studying guitar and composition at Oberlin College and Wesleyan University. After graduating, I played Organ Trio and small combo jazz in LA, studied Brazilian and African percussion, and went to Japan to study Shamisen and Taiko drumming. I've been playing in various groups since arriving in NYC in 2005, and have recently been working on engineering and composing for film.

Music is fun!!! I strive for all my students to enjoy themselves, to have a great time learning about the world of music.
I use a song-based approach to guitar playing. Armed with just a small vocabulary of chords, you can play hundreds of great songs. My students will determine the course of their lesson plan by selecting songs they want to learn. While maintaining proper technique and effective practice methods, we will learn the fundamentals of the guitar by playing the music that we love. After 6 months, you will know all the basic chords, and the fundamentals of playing a solo. As lessons progress, you also learn song structure and some basic harmonic theory so you can begin creating on your own.

I believe that progressive teaching must employ constructive pedagogical strategies to foster meaningful musical experiences for students to build and to exhibit competence. My pedagogical model is comprised of a student-centered approach to produce attainable challenges and to affect affirmative changes that will physically, technically, and emotionally enrich each student's performance.

I am a graduate of Columbia University in Music & Music Education, M.A., Ed.M. I have a comprehensive background and training in Piano, Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocology, and General Music. I studied music at Hunter College and I obtained a Bachelor Degree in Italian from Queens College. As an instrumentalist, I attended Fiorello LaGuardia of Music & Art & Performing Arts H.S. and the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at Queens College.

Fay is such an amazing teacher! I got into Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School thanks to her. Best Teacher I've had, she helps train your voice and goes through the vocal anatomy so you understand techniques such as proper breathing, posture, coordination, grounding, acting, diction...etc. I've been her student for about a year three years now and I have to say that my voice has improved so much as a performer all thanks to her! If you get the chance, at least take a class, you will not regret it!

Out of all teachers and Gleb is the expert in so many ways teaching and applying the lessons to stick and to create a great Saxaphone player. He has so many techniques in his arsenal to make any student become a Saxaphone player and a good one. His patience, his depth of understanding the music and the student and how to apply make it click. He works for the music and for the student rather than anything else. Gleb, please keep on teaching. nny Davis, Steve Williams, and Radam Schwartz. Most recently, Peter Lin performed at Slide Hampton's 85th Birthday with Steve Turre, Kenny Barron, Rufus Reid, and Victor Lewis. With various groups of all musical genres, he has performed at venues and festivals including The Clifford Brown Festival, The Riverview Jazz Festival, The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, the Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Smalls, Duke's Southern Table, Zinc Bar, and Swing 46. He also leads his own jazz small group, The Lintet, which remains active in the tri-state area.

In addition to being an active performer, Peter Lin is a dedicated educator, teaching in both the private lesson setting as well as the classroom. His students have gone off to college such as Montclair State University for music. He also has worked at the Jazz House Summer Workshop, the Jazz Arts in Red Bank, Newark Academy's Summer Jazz Camp, and at Andy's Family Music Center.
