*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher with many years of experience, which gives me the confidence to make the lessons fun and educational. Even though I am not very strict, I do have some expectations of my students: they will have to practice in order to be ready for the next lesson and in order to improve and show progress. After 3 or 6 months, my students will be able to play songs with various chords already, be able to read simple music and start learning how to improvise.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room: Amps, guitars, full keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide the book for the student on the first lesson, however after that the student would have to purchase the book. I will have my own instrument, but the student must have their own instrument in order to be ready for the lesson. I do have a number of guitars and if its a guitar student - I would be able to let the student use one of my guitars on the first lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I teach many various styles and incorporate the reading and music literacy in all of the styles. I specialize in teaching Classical and Rock genres of music. However I have taught: Metal, Bossa Nova, Pop, Punk, Flamenco, Progressive. Teaching classical genre - I incorporate a lot of various techniques that are very broad in spectrum to help the student learn to perform the music, read, improvise and compose. Teaching Rock genre - I teach my students to read music as well and concentrate on improvising and soloing techniques as well.

Loving my teacher

I have studied with Alex for over 5 years, time in which I feel I have accomplished so much on the guitar. Alex is awesome! He has real passion for the music and the instrument he teaches, he is extremely patient, has great insights in explaining the music or the techniques and shows a great resourcefulness in approaching various methods to each musical style he teaches.

Learning to Play

Alex is a great teacher. He is extremely patient and very good at taking his time to explain the things you do not understand. It's easy for me to express my own concerns as well as ask him questions. I also think his teaching techniques are great. He uses songs of your choosing as well as knows plenty of songs to advance your techniques with the guitar in realistic stages. He is good with constructive criticism. I like his honesty and directness, but he never makes you feel like you can't do it. Alex can spot things wrong with your technique quickly and help correct them. He also promotes a positive environment for those not yet confident in their playing.

I am very happy with Alex as my guitar teacher and feel that I can learn so much from him and I would definitely recommend him to another guitar player.

Nick teaches beginner guitar to both me and my 8-year-old daughter. He is knowledgable, patient, engaging, trustworthy, and communicative. He tailors his lessons to the individual, and my daughter and I are both progressing as a result. Plus, we're having lots of fun! When my daughter went through a period of not wanting to focus and saying everything was too hard, he handled her doubts and attitude in a gentle yet serious way and got her right back on track. If you are looking for someone who is passionate about music and committed to helping you love to play, Nick is your man!

Hey guys, don't read any further. Just book your first lesson with Nick. He's an incredible musician...guitarist, singer and song writer. I learned so much from him and wouldn't be as confident performing without his support. Nick really knows how to dissect a song and teach it from the ground up. He starts simple with easy learning and then has a great grasp of when to take you to the next level. He has taught me so much about music and was always so generous with his time. He'd always stay after the lesson had ended just to help me practice one more song or even just to talk about records and tell me some stories about The Band. Do yourself a favor and book some lessons in with Nick right now. Ollie

I have been playing guitar for 30 years. I grew up a rock player but also studied jazz and classical. My strength as a teacher is that I understand each student is different. I am able to easily adapt to a student's needs and desires, all the while implementing the necessary discipline in order for them to achieve their goals.

About Marco
I started playing guitar seriously at the age of 12 and have been a guitar teacher for 22 years. My first influences were rock and metal. In my later teens, I became very interested in other music genres such as jazz, fusion and classical. I began my formal music education as a Classical Guitar performance major, ultimately obtaining a Masters Degree in Music Composition from the Queens College Aaron Copland School of Music.

The road I have taken with music has been paved with many unexpected twists and turns. Throughout my many years of learning and making new discoveries, I have now arrived at a point where I am able to productively incorporate knowledge from various experiences with music and education into my own creativity and teaching. I never expect to stop learning or exploring, and I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm, valu
able experiences and knowledge with my students.

Marco is one of the best teacher ever, I knew him way back in 1997 when I first came in to the state. At first, one of my friend was taking the session and he didn't mind me just staying and observed. After a few classes, I decided to go with Marco. As a new immigrant, language barrier is a problem. He 's patiently teach me from a to z. Making sure I understand everything. Although, I knew some of the basic of the guitar. I was surprisingly I could learn how to read music. Be able to improvise with him during lesson. You're not just learning how to play song/guitar. You learn music theory all in a packet. I still remember one day I was playing in the local shop in HK, people was whispering this guy is good. This is a good memory that I have until now.

I was a student of Marco's for about two-almost three years, and his excitement, love, desire, wisdom and passion for music and teaching is something that can't be described in words. Marco is a teacher that likes to have fun with whatever it is he may be teaching, but he is also very serious about it to make sure his students learn what they want in the best way possible to them. He will encourage his students if they need it and congratulate you every time you complete whatever it is you may have learned from him. I mostly learned techniques/songs from artist's such as Randy Rhoads, Angus Young, and much more from Marco. He will not let you down. He won't give up on you. I would gladly learn from him any time /any chance I'd get.

Marco has been teaching my son how to play the guitar since 2008. I feel that we were blessed having Marco as my son's first teacher. He really understood him and I was brought to tears at his very first recital when I was amazed how much he had learned in just a short few months. He is a senior in HS now and he has a love for the guitar and a passion to learn new music on his own.
Marco is an exceptional teacher who is very patient and understands his students and listens to their needs. He is extremely talented and anyone would be very lucky to have him as their music instructor. I recommend him highly. He is the best!

Anything that i would like to learn Tom makes it possible for me to do so. I started getting lessons in order to not slow down on my playing. I'm a laid back teacher with an easy going nature, but I do expect my students to put time into their practicing. I customize my curriculum based on your needs. If you are a complete beginner who really has a desire to learn the instrument, we will focus on technique, theory and improvisation as it applies to your favorite styles and songs.

For students who want to play more casually, we will focus on mastering techniques that will get you playing your favorite tunes while bypassing the theoretical aspects.

Intermediate/Advanced students are welcome to choose the areas they feel they need to improve, whether it's understanding how to apply modes to your soloing or developing a fluid sweeping technique.

My home studio has a spare guitar and amp for your convenience.

*** Studio Equipment ***
space with instruments seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Rock/Metal/Blues but can teach all genres comfortably.

My method is custom tailored to the student. If gaining a deep knowledge of the instrument is his/her goal I focus on technique, theory, and application through improvisation. If a student would rather learn their favorite songs I spend the majority of the time focusing on the techniques needed to perform the tune and pepper in a little theory where applicable.

Before taking lessons with Adam, I had no knowledge about playing guitar and fundamentals of music theory.

So,at the beginning, Adam patiently taught me music theory and the technique to play guitar. During the lessons, I have asked him basic questions about music theory time and again, and he patiently explained the concepts to me. Also, sometimes, I asked him to explain me the song composition (chord structure , melody , bass and etc) of some random songs, and he quickly broke it down in the class and showed me how the song is constructed.

One thing I like about the class structure is that Adam gives you the freedom to choose the lesson content. And, then he slowly nudges you on the right path. In terms of scheduling a lesson, Adam is very accommodating, and he accommodated my every request to change the schedule.

Another thing I would like to mention is Adam's depth of knowledge in terms of music history. Adam always explained me the music concepts by telling me how they got introduced into the music culture.

I will recommend Adam to anyone who wants to learn music.

I am picking up the guitar again after a long hiatus and Adam has been incredibly helpful. He's extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and his lessons have challenged me to learn the fundamentals I had been ignoring. At end of each lesson, I feel that I am developing a solid set of foundations to apply in my playing. I'd recommend Adam to anyone looking to learn the instrument from any backgrounds.

I picked up the guitar over ten years ago to accompany myself while I sang. Having developed some skills, I can now offer my students the basics of guitar so that, in a pressure-free and supportive environment, they can truly get going. Once my students are comfortable playing chord progressions, simple songs, simple rhythmic patterns, and fingerpicking styles, I offer techniques so they can learn even more material at home. If a student outgrows me and wants to move into advanced classical guitar performance or jazz guitar, I refer them to one of my very good professional guitarist friends. It's all about the journey.

About Jillian
I have a Master's degree in Music Therapy, am a nationally board certified music therapist (MT-BC); performer and vocal instructor (Bachelor's in Classical Voice); certified yoga instructor and meditation guide (200+); certified and attuned Reiki master; professional freelance writer and editor.

...I find joy in a lot of places! And often I find these areas of study inform and augment each other.

Music therapy has afforded me a great deal of experience working with children, teens, and adults with special needs including, autism, Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, emotional disturbances and developmental delays as well as teens and adults with psychosocial issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, personality disorders, and more.

I incorporate my experience as a therapist into the educative setting.

As a voice teacher, I want to help my students settle comfortably into their own musicality by showing them the building blocks of a solid technique, drawing particularly from the things that helped me grow as a vocalist. I want my students to feel strong in their body, comfortable and relaxed in their breath, and confident in their performance.

I am a professional vocalist in NYC. I perform liturgical and classical music, as well as musical theater repertoire. I participate in professional operas, choral groups and other concert series. Performing gives me a sense of bliss and completeness that is indescribable.

As a certified yoga instructor, I teach in many locations throughout Westchester. I was trained at Yoga Haven in Scarsdale, New York with Betsy Kase, and earned a 200-hour certificate in Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation. I offer private yoga instruction and meditation at my home studio. My studio comes fully equipped with all yoga props, aromatherapy, and music. Hands-on-assists and personalized classes offered to deepen your experience.

It is a joy to offer Reiki to curious, open clients in need of energy healing. Reiki is a noninvasive energy healing technique totally separate of any religious affiliation and available to anyone. It is a difficult to describe the relaxing, soothing, and deep-healing effects of Reiki to someone who has never experienced.

She has taught me some of the key essentials of music theory, and really helps me understand how to use my voice as an instrument. Added bonuses are that she records me in her professional studio and sends me the tracks, and she's very cool and easy to talk to.

I have taught thousands of private lessons since graduating from The New School Jazz And Contemporary Music Program in 2003. I am a D'Angelico Guitars Artist and my music is played on FM jazz radio around the world.

I believe that anyone can learn to play the guitar well. It usually just takes a bit of help from someone that has been on the road a bit longer to help you on your way. I'm always honored to help musicians take their next steps on the guitar. One of the real gifts of being a guitar teacher is staying inspired as I see students work each week towards their goals.

I work well with kids as well as adults and beginners up to advanced musicians that are looking for their next steps.

About Josh
I have taught thousands of lessons to hundreds of students since beginning in 2003. I work well with kids, adult beginners and advanced musicians looking to take their next steps on the instrument. I am a D'Angelico Guitars Artist. My latest album, Celebration of Soul, was my first to be on a record label and receive national FM radio play, making it onto the FM jazz radio charts.

Lessons in your home or my location by Morningside Park.

I work well with beginners, showing each person the steps they can take during the week to practice and establish great habits on the instrument. Learn the music you love in a fun and encouraging weekly lessons environment.

Guitar Theory Basics: Understanding Keys

Guitar Theory Basics: Understanding Keys
