Learn repertoire that ranges from pop to contemporary, fingerstyle, and jazz, with a bit of blues thrown in.
You can use a pick or fingers, learn to read music or tab, learn technique idiomatic to the guitar as a melodic or accompanying instrument.
We can explore song writing and recording as well!
Learning an instrument teaches focus and goal setting strategies, develops self-direction and self-esteem, plus the added benefit of developing the brain for academic achievement.
And, it's just plain FUN!!
I specialize in teaching music and guitar to children ages 7 through 18 including college prep for auditions. I hold a music degree from Montclair State University and have over 12 years of teaching experience.
Your child will learn how to read music, play melody and chords and progressively acquire skills as a musician and guitarist. Music theory, ear training and rhythm study are included.
This is perfect for home schooled children or as a supplement to public or private school music programs.
I specialize in acoustic guitar - both classical and contemporary, steel string and nylon.
I have been a musician for o
ver 25 years. In addition to guitar, I'm a vocalist, composer and arranger as well as a music publisher. I actively perform as both a classical guitarist and singer-songwriter.
PLEASE SPEAK TO ME before purchasing your child's instrument. A standard size steel string guitar can be difficult to handle and may discourage your child.
***NOTES ABOUT SPECIAL NEEDS***
Usually, learning disabilities, ADD & ADHD go together just fine with guitar lessons and frequently give these precious young people a creative outlet. Speak to me about your child's needs so I can prepare the best lessons possible!
Be aware that there are stairs to my home studio. Please take this into consideration if you have an ambulatory disability.
*** STUDIO EQUIPMENT ***
Home Studio, dedicated space, guitars and recording equipment, keyboard and amps, music stands, chairs, comfortable waiting area for parents.

Cheryl is a great teacher. She loves music and that enthusiasm is inspiring.
I am looking forward to many lessons
ahead and advancing my playing skills.
I am a Rutgers University graduate with a B.A in Music Performance. I have played guitar for over 10 years, and currently perform all over the tri-state area as a solo acoustic performer and songwriter. I also play in several rock bands. I teach several students ages 5-65 right now, and have taught students how to play guitar for several years. In addition to playing in a rock band, I also am well versed in many music styles including jazz, pop, country and acoustic, songwriting, performance, music theory and recording skills/production.
*** Lesson Details *** I am a very flexible teacher and suit my teaching style and format to fit each specific student's interests and needs. My goal is to keep the student interested and make learning guitar a fun experience.
I like to find out the kind of music the student listens to, or what
they want to get out of playing guitar, and then mold my teaching around that. For instance, if a student or parent wants a formal musical education, I will teach how to read music notes and teach them from a book. If the student wants to learn simple songs and be able to play around the campfire for fun, I make sure to guide the student toward doing just that.
*** Studio Equipment *** Dedicated lesson space. Guitars. Music stands. Music books. Seating for parents.
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide my own instruments I would require them to have te instrument they want to learn available and the necessary power source and amp if needed.
*** Specialties *** Rock country jazz mainly though I know classical music theory as well as counterpoint etc
I am an experienced Acoustic Guitar Teacher of 20 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of Acoustic Guitar skills.
I specialize in styles such as Rock, Blues, Pop, and Folk, typically use my own teaching method and materials along with Alfrend's Guitar Method, The Hal Leonard Guitar Method, or any instrutional books that my students prefer or have been using.

- Explaining the structure of guitar and giving the basic information about the instrument - Instructing students about both the basic and advance techniques in guitar playing - Striking a fine blend of theory and practicality while teaching guitar playing - Ability to understand the needs, short and long term goals of different students and changing the methods of teaching accordingly - Preparing students for student recitals or public performances if necessary
I'm funny, friendly, outgoing, and love to play guitar. I’m also flexible and easy to work with, however when it comes to learning I’m strict and serious. Some of my students call me “Three-Face”, for I’m not only your teacher but also your friend and your coach: I will introduce you to the world of guitar as a teacher; jam and have fun with you as a friend; and I will train you and make sure you are on the right as a coach.
I like all kinds of music, from Classical to Metal and everything in between. Some of my favorite bands/artists who influence me include: Joe Satriani, Slash, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Disturbed, Antoine Carre, Niccolo Paganini, Antonio Vivaldi…
Sharing my knowledge in music and guitar makes me happy, and it is the greatest joy for me to see my students grow and play the music they like. Guitar lessons should be fun and enjoyable, yet challenging.
Thank you very much for visiting my page and I hope to teach you soon!
- Sylivan T.
*** Lesson Details *** During our first lesson, we will first talk about your goal and music direction that you want to pursuit. Then based on your goal and direction, I will customize a curricular track and briefly explain the things that you need to know and what you need to focus on in order to achieve your goal.
As your instructor, my goal is to help you to reach your goals and to have fun with the music you enjoy. In each lesson, according to your progress, I will introduce you new concepts/materials using fun and easy-to-learn activities. Then we will work on the materials together and have fun jamming together. Yes!! You will feel like you are jamming along with your friend instead of taking a guitar lesson, because guitar lessons suppose to be fun!!!
Each particular lesson I will assign you some assignments. They would either be things that we already jammed on during the lesson, or something that I want you to work on your own. Then when we meet again, we will go over the assignments together and I will give you comments and advises to help you play better.
Below are only some of the instructional books that I usually use for teaching beginners. I will also use other instructional books and music repertories according to the ability of the students and their music style:
- Hal Leonard Guitar Method: Will Schmid and Greg Koch - Alfred’s Basic Guitar Method: Alfred d’ Auberge and Morton Manus - Hal Leonard Rock Guitar Method: Michael Mueller - Solo Guitar Playing: Frederick M. Noad
From my experience as a teacher and student, I believe there is no such thing as a “Perfect Instructional Book”. Therefore along with the above instructional books I will add in some other activities and exercises written by myself.
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect my students to have a guitar and a chromatic tuner. Also a note book, some staff paper, and a pen and a pencil.
For electric guitar, it's necessary to have an amp and a .25 inch cable at home
*** Specialties *** Usually use Mei Bay Guitar Method as a general guide and text for guitar teaching.
*** Specialized in classical, rock, blues, and pop ***
Passionate and patient instructor. Always takes the time to answer my questions and makes sure I understand each topic before moving on to the next.

June 5, 2019
We just had our first lesson with Keith. Keith is a wonderful instructor. He is very patient to 6 years old daughter and he tailors the lesson to fit her. He challenges her without making her feel uncomfortable.
My daughter especially likes when Keith makes up accompaniment parts to play along with her songs. She enjoyed her first lesson so much that she kept playing the new tunes she learned and looking them
up on her iPad!
May 2, 2019
Keith is very exacting and wants me to do it right. Even if I know how to read music and meter, ifI made a mistake because I couldn't find the place on the guitar, he would make me start over. Perfect for me

About Jose Luis
My name is Jose Luis Alonso. A graduate of Hunter College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance, I have been been offering music lessons for several years now to students of many ages, backgrounds, and levels of experience. I have developed a very keen sense and understanding of Music and hope to share my experience and knowledge in a fun and creative way. Above all else, I encourage students to develop their talents in way that helps them find their own voice with which to navigate the world of music.
My goal as a teacher is to avoid any type of dogmatic "one size fits all" curriculum. I always want to know what music the student enjoys and build my lesson plans based on their tastes. Chords can be physically challenging for beginners so I like to work with single-note melodies early on so that the student isn't quickly discouraged. Learning chords becomes the medium-term goal. As for the long-term, I will then use specific songs as examples for how music theory works in the context of their favorite bands. I am always prepared to adjust my lesson plans based on the students progress and overall comfort zone.
My name is Chris B. and I've been playing music for most of my life.
The best lesson that I've personally learned is that a musician is never done learning. Once you start believing that you know everything there is to know about your instrument then you've stopped growing musically. Personally, I've also learned that I enjoy sharing my knowledge of music with others and exposing students to new techniques and concepts.
I strongly believe that these traits are the most important aspects of teaching music to others. No matter how advanced my playing skills might progress, I’ll always be able to relate to any type of student because I’m still learning something new everyday!
Awesome first lesson for our 14 year old daughter! She’s pumped to continue with Chris, and we’re pleased with the entire process so far.
June 26, 2019
I have been taking lessons from Chris for 5 years. He is very open to learn and teach all styles of music. in turn, allowing me learn and play music I though i never would. His guidance in "the technology" of music is also greatly appreciated.
The learning experience with Chris is top notch, never an issue with communication or punctuality.Always able to move around his busy schedule for the "adult" student.
I want to thank Chris for allowing to find my "Soul Mustard" He is the best you can find

Chris is an awesome instructor! He was patient and professional. I was truly a beginner and Chris helped me every step of the way. I would recommend him to anyone looking to pick up a guitar or further enhance your skills. Thanks for all the help!
I have taught acoustic guitar on the beginner and intermediate levels to all ages for the past few years, these lessons include reading, tuning, rhythm, and composition.
I'm a musician proficient in multiple styles. My main focuses are Jazz, Rock and R&B. I teach Piano, Guitar (including bass), Singing and musical theory from beginning through advanced.
I have worked with Norah Jones, Katharine McPhee, Miranda Lambert, Walking Shapes, The Wailers, Alabama as well as Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. I also performed on Miranda Lambert’s national television commercial for Cotton’s Fabric Of Our Lives Campaign
In addition to live and studio work I have scored and performed music for television and film. My credits include MSNBC’s “Locked Up” series; as well as Amnesty International’s documentary Women of Liberia.
I have always been a "student" of the instrument and of music in general, and enjoy passing on what I have learned throughout this journey. I was very lucky to study with one of the most renown
ed drummers and educators John Riley. Through his teachings and years of touring and playing drums professionally I have developed a style of teaching all my own that focuses on the the foundation and essentials of being, not only a great drummer, but a great musician.
I have a little background with making beats on my computer, but felt that sometimes I’m limited, So I figured it would help if I took a drum lesson. It was awesome! I have a little electronic kit that we hooked up to my computer! I’m so happy I booked Chris! Chris is an awesome teacher and knowledgeable about everything having to do with music and theory! He even hooked me up with some theory and keyboard techniques that just opened me right up! On top of that, he’s played with a couple bands that I love! I’m excited for our next lesson on an actual drum kit!
I have been playing guitar and a multitude of other instruments for over 10 years now and have been teaching on and off for the past six. My goal is to help you build up a passionate work ethic that is based in enjoying the music rather than dreading it. I am all about creating a low stress, relaxed, and fun atmosphere. Music is technical and we will definitely work on technique, but if it isn't fun, it isn't worth doing.
I am a multi-instrumentalist from Upstate New York. I started playing guitar and saxophone 10 years ago and simply couldn’t stop! Over the years, I picked up ukulele, clarinet, mandolin, flute, among others, studied voice at Ithaca College as part of their BFA MT program, and have become a singer/songwriter and recording artist. As a teacher, I am all about loving and performing the music. Learning instruments can be hard and technique is very important, but if we don’t cultivate a passion for music, why are we playing it at all? The most engaging and successful artists are those who put themselves into their music and fully perform it, not just play it. My goal is to keep his classes stress free and focused on enjoying the passion of performance while pushing towards more challenging and exciting material.
Jacob is an excellent instructor! He was patient and encouraging with my daughter while laying a wonderful foundation in what I hope will be a life-long relationship with music. They also have a lot of fun every time which definitely makes learning anything new easier. Have recommended to friends and family!
"When I decided to take guitar lessons I couldn't have chose a better teacher. Rina is a great teacher! She is patient and kind and she makes sure you real
ly understand the material. I have learned so much and I'm glad to say that I will continue to learn the most I can about playing the guitar from Rina!"
"Super nice!!! Jeremie really is patient and gives great tips and helps with tips and corrections. Had fun!"
"I started with Jeff 3 weeks ago and am very happy with him & lessons. I started playing guitar off & on as a folkie in the 1960's, no lessons - learned b
y osmosis + a couple of songbooks with chord diagrams, played off & on, (mostly off). I retired in July 2014 (at 71) and promised myself I would really learn to play. He started by asking me to play the chords I knew, and what kinds of music I wanted to play, and started me off with basic strums etc. For me at least it is a good approach. We go at my pace and no pressure - + a lot of talk about life in America etc. Plan to continue with him and highly recommend him. (I'm the old guy in the picture)"
"Mathew is wonderful! My son loved his first lesson!"
"I have been taking acoustic guitar lessons with Rina for about 10 weeks. When I first started I did not know anything about the guitar, but she made it e
asy by getting me started on learning just one sting at a time. Now I know all of the strings and play chords and a number of tunes. She is very patient and an excellent instructor. I am very happy with my progress and I plan on continuing with guitar lessons until I can play a wide variety of music."
"Nice and solid first lesson. Jason hit the ground running by quickly assessing where I was and then providing me with info to help me move forward. I walk
ed away with straight-forward exercises to get me ready for my next lesson. I appreciated that Jason reached out before my appointment to gauge my experience and was very positive as I moved (that is stumbled) forward. Jason manages to jam a bunch of information in a short amount of time without rushing. I look forward to my next lesson and am encouraged to put in the time to put my best foot forward."
"Being a beginner (guitar) I attended my first class with a positive mind and no set expectations. I left class joyous, as Billy mastered to introduce me t
o guitar theory in such a simplified manner, which made it easy to grasp. I attended my second class last week, and feel that I have advanced/internalized greatly in such a short period. Further, I appreciate that Billy has always been prompt to attend my inquiries. Based on the aforementioned experiences, I look forward to my upcoming classes, and I’m very curious to know the end result - without hesitation, I'm certain it will be positive. Billy is a very gifted guitar teacher, hope he can teach for many years to come - as many can benefit from his great talents."
"In my first month of lessons, changed the way I practice. Because of this, I am playing much more than I used to! Highly recommended."
