I am a violinist and violist with experience performing and studying all over the world. I am a trained classical musician, but I also have a passion for improvisation, hip hop, pop, jazz, and fiddle music! My strengths lie in building students' technical foundation while helping them find their artistic voice.

In this class we will cover the fundamentals of improvisation. We will discuss the basics of jazz, pop, and fiddle improvisation, as well as concepts that apply to all genres - listening to harmony, finding the open spaces, and creating a beautiful, interesting sound that is uniquely yours.

A versatile musician with over ten years' teaching experience. I focus on building a strong technique so we can find students' unique artistic voice together!

Students of mine study standard concertos, Bach, Suzuki materials, and scales. They also work on fiddle and jazz tunes, improvisation, and pop songs. The most important thing is to find what lights a spark in each student!

I am an adult violist who returned to playing in the local community orchestra a few years ago.  I had played in high school and college ensembles decades before but had stopped playing for a while.  

I reached out to Zachary to improve my "technique".  What I actually received was much more.  

Working with Zachary immensely improved my viola sound, heightened my range, and improved both my right and left hand techniques.  But it also penetrated to something deeper; a holistic approach to playing that integrated these disparate elements into effective playing.  In addition, I took away a method of how to formulate, practice and express a truly "musical" interpretation of the repertoire that we worked on together.

Zachary is an approachable, warm, caring, and observant teacher and an effective communicator and demonstrator.  I would recommend him wholeheartedly as a teacher for any aspiring student!

Zachary is astute, professional, clear in communication, and a compassionate and effective teacher. I have had violin, cello, and viola instructors for my children for 15 years, and Zachary is among the best. There are a few things you look for in an instructor:
1. That they make an honest assessment.
2. That they make a plan, communicate it to the student, and stick to it.
3. That they work with what the student brings to the lesson in terms of skill.

Zachary took my daughter in quickly, was able to assess where she was and put together an effective plan for her. I noticed the improvement immediately and my daughter was inspired to practice.

I decided that I wanted to learn how to play an instrument much later in life than most. On top of the late start, I knew little to nothing about music. All of these factors discouraged me for a long time and some teachers I've tried added to that anxiety. One day I came across Zachary's profile and decided to give it one more chance , little did I know it would be one of the single greatest decisions I've ever made for myself. Coming to the table with as little knowledge as I had, including not being a young kid, was not a problem at all for Zachary. He has an ease about him when he teaches and is always patient and kind. Never once did he talk down to me or make me feel like something was impossible. 
If you have a chance to have him as your teacher, you will not regret it. Let him help you learn, improve, and bring out the very best in you like he did with me.

I love Zachary's teaching method. He is very friendly and easy to understand. He is very passionate about teaching and it shows. I have progressed a lot after only a few lessons, and I will continue to take lessons from him. I highly recommend him :)

Zachary is a great instructor and friendly , you won't feel the stress of a regular class.I can say that I am always excited to learn because of the motivation he give. I wasn't sure at the beginning that the online lessons would work effectively and that I will see great results. I have already had 5 sessions and still have 15 left. He is so patient and gives a clear guidance to improve your level. Each week there is a prepared plan of what we will focus on depending on the performance which means you take the full use of every minute in the class. Also ,the weekly homework or exercises given helps you to know what to do to improve between each class.

Zachary is teaching my 12 year old son. He did a good assessment, suggested next steps, and continues to provide me with feedback after the lesson.

Zachary has such a positive and encouraging way with our son. He is clearly a very talented musician -- yet he is humble and has said he is always still learning all the time. From the first lesson, he provided persistent guidance for improving with patience and compassion.  He is a gifted teacher. We are very happy to have found him!

This video continues on the Fundamentals of the Bowhold course, and goes beyond the formation of the bowhold.

The class discusses the main elements of right hand technique, how these elements affect our tone, and how to think about them in our daily practice. It is useful for beginners who have had their first several lessons, but also serves as a refresher for more experienced players, and even teachers. Some of these concepts I did not learn until years after finishing my Bachelors in Violin Performance!
