I have been teaching music  for 25 years, both in private lesson and classroom settings. I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Shenandoah University & Conservatory and I have experience teaching all age groups, from age 3 through senior adults, and every age in between. I enjoy teaching students with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, including students with special needs. While I generally use specific curriculum materials, I can also tailor that curriculum to the individual needs of every student. 

I like to incorporate games, composing, and various music challenges into the lessons and I encourage my students to try to step out of their musical comfort zones and try new things.  I also try to do virtual recitals once or twice a year. I enjoy seeing a student's confidence grow as they learn and be creative! Every student is capable of learning something about music and being successful at it!

In this class we will learn some basic singing techniques while learning to sing a classic hymn. We will discuss the story behind the song and the meaning of the lyrics as well, so you can sing this hymn with full emotion and worship to God, whether you are singing in church or just in your personal devotional time.

This was a fifteen hour course intended to provide educators with unique learning opportunities to develop their skills in working more effectively with students with special needs and those who are neurodivergent in the music classroom, ensemble, and studio settings.

I have taught private piano, voice, and beginner flute lessons and have had great success keeping a full schedule of a variety of students. Among those students are several very young children, ages 4-6, as well as all ages up through adults. I have also worked with several special needs students of varying challenges throughout the years, using music to reach them on their level.

I taught private piano, voice, and beginner flute lessons here at Melodee Music, a local music store in my area, for 16 years. I taught students ages 5+ and I also held a Summer Music Camp for kids there for a few years.

I started teaching private lessons while I was in college earning my degree. I mostly traveled and taught in the students' homes before creating a studio in my own home, where I developed my skills as a teacher and learned how to organize my lessons and which methods worked and which did not.

At a private church school, I teach general music classes to grades K-8.  I teach the basics of note-reading, rhythms, and music theory in a group/classroom setting, while incorporating singing, playing a variety of classroom instruments, composing, music games, and dances.

I have been singing all my life and teaching for over 25 years! I love seeing my students discover their musical skills and grow in their musicianship! In each singing lessons, we learn the importance of warming up the voice and taking care of the voice to help us produce our best sound.  We also learn ear training to help us match pitch more accurately, as well as note-reading, and a variety of vocal techniques, including breathing, pronunciation, strengthening the vocal muscles, and expanding the student's range. We also talk about the story telling behind the lyrics of a song and learn various performing techniques.

For books, I use the Full Voice Workbook series, in combination with some of my own materials for ear-training and basic theory. I also use a variety of songbooks that focus on Disney songs, Broadway/show tunes, classical/traditional singing, and folk songs, depending on the student's age. I also specialize in church music, such as traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs. If there are other songs the student wants to work on outside of our regular lesson material, I encourage them to bring that to the lesson as well.

My daughter really enjoyed Donna and we hope to take more lessons with her!

As an adult student, I have a toddler and a busy schedule (FT job). I've been taking the Flute lessons with Miss Donna since last May (over a year now). I really appreciate Miss Donna's understanding and flexibility towards my schedule. Also, since we are now having online sessions, she records videos of herself playing the notes for me and sends them to me so I can have the opportunity of practicing duets with her when I have some downtime (mostly late at night).
