In each lesson, we begin with the basics of note-reading, rhythms, and techniques. Then we put these things into practice using a variety of music styles throughout a series of books, as well as individual pieces determined by the teacher and the student according to the student's level, needs, and preferences.

For younger students I generally use a lot of the Faber Piano Adventures books, along with several of their supplemental materials. I am also well-versed in the Bastien Piano Basics books. For teen and adult students, I use the Bastien Adult or Alfreds Adult piano books, and usually try to include the Fundamentals of Piano Theory as well.

About Donna W.

I have been teaching music for 21 years, both in private lesson and classroom settings. I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Shenandoah University & Conservatory and I have experience teaching all age groups, from age 3 through senior adults, and every age in between. I enjoy teaching students with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, including students with special needs. While I generally use specific curriculum materials, I can also tailor that curriculum to the individual needs of every student.

I try to keep things fun by incorporating music learning games into the lessons and I encourage my students to try to step out of their musical comfort zones and try new things. I enjoy seeing a student's confidence grow as they learn and be creative! Every student is capable of learning something about music and being successful at it!

I'm very happy I've found Ms. Donna for our daughter's piano lessons. It's been a joy watching my little girl learn how to play. Ms. Donna is also very responsive and keeps a open line of communication. I would highly recommend her!

My special needs daughter has been taking piano and voice lessons for the past 5 years and we couldn’t have found a better instructor for her!!!! She’s patient, gentle, warm, kind, professional, courteous and always pleasant!!!! She’s very accommodating and understands my daughter’s strengths and deficits and challenges her accordingly!!! She is super organized and always on top of things whether it’s reminders, cancellations or make up classes...She’s very accessible and personable!!! She’s is an accomplished singer and pianist. She also teaches the flute and I have seen her students perform beautifully at recitals!!! She gives her students opportunities to perform to strengthen their confidence, performing skills and stage presence!!! I would highly recommend her any day!
