Music Theory

I am a certified voice teacher ready to take your music abilities to the next level. I have a strong passion for music, which I have been studying for over 13 years. From the time I was ten years old, I have been formally singing in select choirs, musicals, and solo performances; and I have been fortunate enough to perform on stages and in theaters such as the Jamie Foxx Performing Arts Center. Additionally, I write my own music and have experience recording in professional studios. This past year, I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be a judge for a virtual national singing competition.

I graduated from college Summa Cum Laude from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts with a Bachelor's in Fashion from Arizona State University, where I also studied French for two years. While in college, I began studying music more intensely (outside of school), and I also then began learning to play the guitar. In my free time, I enjoy songwriting, practicing my instruments, and performing.

For more than a decade, I have been leading the children at church in praise and worship and instructing them in small groups. Formerly a substitute teacher, I continued to educate children in more standard academic fields. With all of my experience working with children in the aforementioned fields, I have developed a strong ability to connect with students and relay knowledge in an effective way.

My teaching methods are largely dependent on the student's goals. For absolute beginners, I like to open up my students to all that can be created with music. For beginners, intermediate and advanced learners alike, I like to translate the importance of music theory and incorporate the student's personal musical preferences into their lessons as this increases engagement. If students are interested in performance, I can center their lessons around expanding their repertoire and can offer tips on performance, stage presence, and overcoming "stage fright".

I am kind, patient, encouraging, and absolutely willing to work with anyone to help them reach their goals. Whether you want to sing for a living or just be more confident at karaoke night, I want to help you reach your music goals and discover vocal ability you may not have ever known you had!

In this class, you will learn the basics of ear training in the context of music theory.

I will show you various practices you can use to develop a trained ear able to distinguish between pitches.

We will also cover how to recognize various intervals with ease.

his instructor didn't help anyone in class. she totally ignored all students, she also kept us all muted!!!! she is very unprofessional, If your there to learn then im sorry to tell you that you probably won't learn a thing from Mariah!!! I say you'd be better off learning from abcmouse.com while eating at chipotle than try learning from Mariah

Filed a defamation lawsuit against me because of my review about our family’s experience with this teacher. I wouldn’t trust these reviews. The defamation agreement asks for $15,000 in damages because of my take lessons review saying my son could not learn from her. Imagine that. Not being allowed to leave an honest review of your child’s experience for a service you paid for, which was not rendered.  Take lessons did not remove the review because it was not derogatory. You cannot leave true feedback for this teacher. Don’t take your chances. If your child has an issue and you dare to leave a review she doesn’t approve, you will be the recipient of legal bullying. Despicable and completely unprofessional. Proceed at your own risk!

Mariah is such a great instructor and knows her stuff really well. She has amazing personality and gives great guidance. Thanks so much!!

My son could not learn from her. He never felt comfortable and frequently commented that she made rude faces at him. He did not learn anything new with her in 7 lessons!!! She is also unreasonable with rescheduling and will not rebook.  If you are looking for high quality teacher, please look elsewhere. You get what you pay for :(. What a waste.

First lesson with my son was excellent. Mariah packed quite a bit of material in 30 minutes and we have a lot to work on over the week.
