Music Performance

I am a Hip Hop Artist and Educator. My lessons are tailored to the goals and aspirations of each Student. We will collaborate on a plan, based on your purposes for seeking guidance.

As a student, my lessons will give you tools that you'll be able to use daily for the rest of your life. I will teach you methods and help you build routines that if applied consistently will empower you as a lyricist, performer, recording artist, and anything else you decide to pursue.

I will help you to position your craft as a protective factor for your mental health. (how you think, act, and feel)

I will put you in situations that will teach you how valuable your story is...which will empower you as a songwriter.

I will help you to find the time necessary to reach your goals. This will be one of the most important aspects of our collaboration.

These lessons will build your self-confidence and help you get to know yourself.

I apply rules of discipline, dedication and determination learned as a Division 1 College Basketball Player.

I share strategies from my own creative process and things I've learned teaching others.

I listen to the needs of each Student. Your goals, current habits, preferred learning styles, fears, and history will all impact the way I guide you on your path as an Artist.

I have performed in pretty much every imaginable environment and will use that experience to help you to develop the routines necessary to exceed your potential as a performer.

This class is a positive, free space for Intermediate Hip Hop Lycirists to practice and develop their ability to create improvised freestyle rap lyrics. 

You will be empowered to create lyrics in the moment, based on inspiration from within, other students, and the instructor, Rick Chyme. 

In 2014, Chyme completed a 17.5-hour continuous improvised freestyle rap. He teaches students in his courses, valuable gems picked up along his decades-long journey as a creator in Hip Hop.

In this class, you will learn tools and practices that can be used daily to improve your freestyle rap abilities. You will also learn to become more confident sharing your initial lyrical thoughts and building off of another person's lyrics.

This re-occurring class is designed to provide a confidence-building, virtual space for growing Artists to be vulnerable, make mistakes, learn and grow..individually and together.

The way I write, perform and in general think has conformationally changed with Rick. I haven't been the best student as I felt the continuity weekly really helped. He gets to know you as a person and not a number. Rick is genuinely interested your best interest and it shows by his actions.

Do not hesitate to book a session or two or three with Rick!  He is currently working with our son to encourage growth as a teenage rapper and as a good person overall.  Rick is patient, kind, understanding, and has connected with my son.  He looks forward to waking up each Saturday to spend an hour with Rick.  What teenager does that?  Rick's special talents make it easy.  
Rick's talents don't just lie with music, he has a vested interest in you as a person.  His teaching background and mental health expertise make the lesson much more than expected. I had a great experience working with Rick. He is very attentive and you can tell he cares about helping you reach your goals. He was filled with wisdom and advice that transcended music, and shared some new ways of approaching my craft that I hadn't considered before. He really opened me up to my blindspots and helped me identify some bad habits I picked up through the years. I had a habit of being too rugged and structured, and wanting to do things 'right'. Rick taught me how to listen to myself and identify my preferences and style instead of trying to force things and look for external rules and guidelines to follow. He helped me remold my entire philosophy in terms of how I make music, which wasn't my goal coming into these sessions, but it was what I needed. I really recommend giving Rick a shot.

We purchased rap coaching sessions from Rick for our teen, and Rick brought an amazing blend of talent, authenticity, life coaching, industry knowledge, and best practices for improvement to each session. My experience with Rick was great, and honestly, life-changing. He pushes you out of your comfort zone and creates a perfect environment for growing musically and as a person. With his help, I wrote 10+ songs that I still think of to this day. The small exercises he made me do really gets you in the "creative zone".  The confidence in myself to be able to perform, creativity, and work habit that I either learned or improved through the lessons have translated to my actual life. Above all, he's a super chill and caring guy. He wants you to succeed in and out of the studio. Whatever your goals are musically or personally, Rick will help you and be for you.

I took lessons from Rick for about a year or two, and he could not come any more highly recommended from me. I took so much away from my lessons with him and grew vastly as a musician and person. He offered so much insight into things I hadn’t previously explored like brand identity, stage confidence, routine, lyrics, and more!

As a former student, I can honestly say that Rick Chyme  is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He not only has a deep understanding of hip-hop as a craft and an art form, but he is also highly motivated to help his students become better individuals. His exercises that he assigns are quite diverse, and are designed to challenge students in a variety of areas. That said, they are extremely rewarding and will help students not only develop as artists, but also help them lead healthier and more fulfilling lives (I still practice many of Rick's routines and principles to this day).

Rick is more than just an instructor. He is someone who will serve as a coach, mentor, and friend for his students. I can't recommend him enough.
