Mr. Tarantola has taught my three kids to play piano and to read music. Their confidence in their music abilities has grown over the years as they continue to learn. The skills they learned with Mr. Tarantola has helped them in school music, band and in learning new instruments such as drum set and clarinet. Mr. Tarantola has the ability and personality to teach all ages including new beginners such as I - who began lessons in my 40's. Highly recommend!

I focus heavily on technique at first, usually for the first 2-4 months. At that point, depending on the student we work on either sight reading or improvisation.

About James

I'm currently a professor at EMMAT, a member school of the Berklee International Network. I have over a quarter-century experience teaching people of all backgrounds and styles. If you’re serious about learning to play piano and willing to put in the work, I honestly cannot think of a better instructor than James. His teaching methodology is creative, fun, yet challenging catapulting students to higher proficiency levels than typically possible with more traditional teaching methods. My 11 year old learning from James is quickly surpassing other kids with many more years of lessons studying other dated, traditional approaches.

James has played for some well known professional acts during his career in multiple music genres (including a presidencial election ceremony)...point being he’s been on the big stage and has reached a level most only dream about. Yet he continues to follow his true passion which is helping others learn and reach their own individual musical aspirations.

In short, James is your guy...look no further.

James has a terrific approach to teaching that my seven year old daughter responded to with enthusiasm and excitement. She learned a lot more than I thought she could in just her first lesson. We’re looking forward to next week!

Lipeng is very patient and encouraging for my beginner 11-year-old, using the video format well to demonstrate the songs and watch the student. She has been a good fit for a player who is motivated to improve but can complain a little bit about practicing everyday.
Paul C.
Very first lesson with Lipeng and I enjoyed it so very much. Lipeng encourages to listen to the music and then accentuate the notes to make it music, not to simply play them.

I've always had an interest in music, but never had any formal training. Laurel's tutelage has taken me from an absolute novice who could barely plink out a few notes to being able to read and play along with sheet music. She's employs a very collaborative style of teaching wherein we work together to identify the kinds of music I want to play, and make regularly progress towards reaching my goals. It's been a fantastic experience.
Kevin
I decided to wait until middle age to begin taking piano lessons so that my brain would be as resistant as possible to learning.

I'm glad I found a teacher as patient, friendly and knowledgable as Laurel. I've been taking lessons with her for almost a year. She tailors the sessions to my spooky interests and encourages me to push my abilities.

When we began I had barely touched a piano in my life. Now I'm able to read sheet music, recognize relative pitches and play a list of my favorite songs with independent hand movement.

I'd recommend Laurel to anyone who wants to learn piano regardless of age or skill level.
Ritu
Laurel has been my kid's piano teacher for a little over four years now. My kids absolutely love her, and I think that is what makes the difference because I want my kids to enjoy taking lessons. Laurel is very knowledgeable and patient. She makes sure students learn both reading music and playing by ear. My kids have come a long way with reading music and playing the piano, and I think a big reason is because of Laurel.

I am an older student coming back to the piano after many years away. Mr. Cooper is patience yet always encouraging! I have learned so much about music and the importance of fingering! He encourages yet challenges me to go beyond my comfort zone. I would recommend Mr. Cooper to anyone who is looking for a teacher. I know that I enjoy my lessons and look forward to my future ones!!!"

"I've been a self-taught keyboard player for about 1-1.5 years and was able to play few of my favorite songs decently well. So naturally after I signed up for his class I was curious about how this will be able to take my abilities to the next level, especially in COVID times as I originally signed up for in-person class!

4-5 months in, I can confidently say that I'm loving him as my keyboard instructor! He personally encouraged me to practice using the music that I love, while blending it with his teaching to exactly point out on how one needs to approach these things. He's been really flexible in terms of scheduling during this time and that has also allowed me to come to class when I'm at 100%.

I don't know if my keyboard abilities are next level compared to when I started (it has improved), but I'm certainly enjoying this process!"
