*** Lesson Details ***
Within a lesson, students can expect to be given instruction on developing proper technique. (scales, chords, basic music theory etc). The learning environment will be laid back and fun, with the student and teacher setting goals together, and reasonable expectations will be held for both the student and teacher.

Jean will ask what it is in particular that the student is wanting to learn, and will seek to develop curriculum centered around the student's goals. Weekly practice (5 days a week, 20-30 minutes a day) will be the encouraged minimum. This will vary slightly depending on individual student needs.

Students will have the opportunity to learn to play music by composers such as Mozart and Bach. They can also learn how to play movie soundtracks, tunes from their favorite Broadway or Disney songs, and more! Vocal students will have the opportunity to learn show tunes, Italian arias, German songs, praise and worship songs, their favorites from musicals, and more.

Hello,
I am Vasiliy M, Boston University School of Music Alumnus (DMA in Composition). We dwell in Boston since Fall 2002; before that time , we lived in New York, where I studied Composition at Mannes College, The New School For Music. I received both BM, and MM degrees from Mannes in 1999, and 2001, respectively. Before an arrival to US, in 1994, I studied Jazz Performance, Electric Bass Major, and Classical Composition, at Moldova State Conservatory, from 1988 to 1993, respectively.
I was raised in the family, where music is an essential part of its daily life; my father, Grigoriy, before his retirement, was a military band trombone player, and, quite naturally, I was exposed to music, and encouraged by my parents to learn playing an instrument of my choice, from my early childhood.
My mother, Anisia Kondrat'ievna,
possesses both beautiful vocal abilities and perfect pitch , although she has never had a chance to develop her natural gifts any further. But I have heard my mother singing, and these moments remain one of the most touching and impressive musical experiences, that I have ever received, and remember to this very day.
Only after a considerable life experiences, abound of trials and mistakes, at the age of twenty five, I have come to a clear realization, that music remains my greatest passion, and that I would have to become a professional musician. With help and support of friends and colleagues, I have entered Community College in Soroki city, Moldova Republic, where I have studied Choral Conducting for Amateurs. I have graduated from school in May of 1988, having written a few instrumental and vocal compositions of my own, and, quite unexpectedly for myself, was invited, that summer, to visit Moldova State Conservatory, with the prospect of audition for the Composition Major. After the meeting with the Chair of the Department, I was offered an opportunity to be accepted to the Master Degree Program in Composition, provided I will have completed two years of preliminary studies of Music Theory, Music Harmony/Voice Leading, and many other related disciplines.
Why do I bring all of these facts to this Essay? I know for the fact now, that I was not ready for what was awaiting ahead of me, back then. There was no way, that I could cope with the demands of Composition Program curriculum. But I have had love for music, that my parents have implemented in me throughout my childhood; I have had natural abilities, that Heavens supplied me with: and I have had a chance to make my dream a reality, providing I do everything that I will have to, during the following years of struggles and study.
The decision was made, and my studies have begun. I have come through every mistake, defeat, and mind-barriers imaginable, and if it would not be a continuous stream of professional help and support, that I have received from my numerous teachers, mentors, and professors, along the years of study, my goals could never be attained to any modest, but real degree.
Whenever I have a chance to teach, tutor, or assist other musicians with their study, my past experience always reminds me, that any person may experience some difficulties of various nature with the learning material, from time to time, and that those difficulties should be addressed by student's teacher with the highly individual approach, however time-and effort-consuming it may be. Patience and respect, in regard to the students, have become as important aspects of teaching to me, as those of discipline and professionalism.
My studies have come to an end; I see now, that the world of music is an endless entity, for it has no boundaries, and we all have to maintain our further progress, in order to move to our chosen destinations, and to help others with their own advancements.

As a person with years of experience working with children, I am patient and enthusiastic, and my main goal when teaching beginners is to inspire a continued interest in playing the piano. It is important for me to make the lessons fun, and therefore I am attentive to my students' needs, strengths, goals, and concerns. I incorporate ear-training into my lessons, emphasize the understanding of rhythm, and teach students to have a productive practicing ethic. For beginner students, I like to use method books and guide them through every step of the complicated process of learning how to read music. After several months, a beginner student will have learned how to count rhythm in a piece of music, identify notes in notation, play some basic scaled correctly, and would be working on a simple song or Classical piece.

I graduated from SUNY Purchase with a BA in Studio Composition in 2007, and from Hebrew College with a Masters' Degree in Jewish Education in June, 2016. I have been working in after-school, Hebrew school, camp, and other supplementary educational settings for the past ten years. Most of my students are learning piano, and I also have a few Hebrew students. My Hebrew students are either studying for their bnei mitzvah, maintaining their conversational Hebrew, or learning for the purpose of competence of services or Torah study. My piano students have ranged from age 4 to young children learning Classical pieces to teens learning to play the songs they like to adults working on their songwriting and improvisation. My first lesson was everything I hoped for from start to finish. I haven't played piano for many years & wanted to begin by using a keyboard as a learning tool--to recapture dexterity and reading ability. I emerged with a better grasp of basics & even a little music theory--exactly as I had requested. Itai is a wonderfully patient teacher & I am looking forward to next week.

Ricky is an amazingly creative and inspiring teacher.

Ricky has been teaching my daughter for last 5 years. My daughter is now 15 years old. She already played piano for a couple of years before Ricky started working with her and at that time was getting disinterested. We were looking for someone who would bring that interest and spark back into her playing piano. I was looking for a special teacher who can teach basics of improvisation and accompaniment to a young child. After talking with several potential teachers, we decided to work with Ricky.

Ricky has proven to be an amazing teacher for my daughter. He is patient, creative and able to adjust to the child’s needs. I was amazed when couple of months after my daughter started working with him; she was already improvising and playing really cool pieces of music. That kind of teaching has inspired my daughter to continue playing piano for the last 5 years. She has accompanied two of her friends singing at her school talent shows and graduation ceremony with encouragement and inspiration Ricky has provided her all along.

Ricky frequently encourages my daughter to pick her own songs she would like to work on. Ricky has a strong knowledge of music theory and has incorporated that in his lessons. I love that my daughter is learning music theory, improvisation, accompaniment and reading music all with the same teacher. It is not easy to find a teacher who is so creative to include all of these in his teaching method. I would highly recommend Ricky as a piano teacher for any age.

Gabriela Martina is a composer, arranger, and bandleader. Released in 2016 with a four-star review from DownBeat, her newest album, No White Shoes, represents a major step in the singer’s sojourn as a 21st-century musician. Martina had the opportunity to perform and collaborate with heavyweights like Meshell Ndegeocello, Jack DeJohnette, and Angelique Kidjo. She recorded with veteran drummer J.R. I am a big fan of applying relevant elements of music theory to the music we're learning: it helps to understand the science behind the music. Noticing patterns and understanding common terminology will make it easier to learn pieces and play with other musicians.

Beau is patient and kind, and yet persistent and focused with my 8 year old daughter. She has major anxiety issues and is often both frightened by new people and hyper sensitive to correction. Beau navigates her through her fears and shares his love of the music. She has had half a dozen lessons now, and we fully intend to continue lessons with Beau.

Paola Del Negro made her debut at the Teatro Juvarra in Turin at the age of 9 years. In 2001 she graduated from the Conservatory "N. Rota" (Italy) with a master in Piano performance. Later she attended several masterclasses organized in collaboration with the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. She received the First Prize in 30 national and international piano competitions. She has recorded music by Ravel in the CD "Musical Encounters at the Castle", recorded at the Castle of San Sebastian (TO), in collaboration with the Piedmont Region. Very active in the chamber music field, he has collaborated with clarinetist Paolo Montagna and Emanuele Morazzoni, the pianist Alberto Miodini, and she was invited to participate, together with Roberto Plano, in a series of concerts for 4 hands held on the Haapag-Lloyd cruiseship MV Europe as part of an
Asia tour. Since 2011 she is Vice President of the Musical Association "Alfred Cortot", founded with the aim of spreading the classical music in all its aspects, with special reference to the education of young people, and she has been the Artistic Director of the Accademia Musicale Varesina, the concert series "The Schubertiades of the Lake" and "Note di Lago" and the Caraglio International Piano Competition for about ten years, until she moved in United States in 2016. Her students are regularly awarded top prizes (more than 100 prizes) in National and International Music Competitions in Italy and abroad. She performed in Belgium (Chateau de Cheneau), in France (Salle Cortot, Auditorium Paul Langevin), in Italy - “Musica in Castello” Festival (PC), Salone Estense, Villa Pirelli, Villa Motta (VA), Turin Conservatory, S. Sebastiano da Po Castle (TO), Fazioli Showroom, Teatro delle Erbe (MI), Caraglio Teatro Civico, Filatoio Rosso (CN), Casa della Musica (PR) - and she had her debut in the United States (Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York). Recently she performed for Senator Thad Cochran in a private event, in Chautauqua (Marshall Studios) and with the Austin Symphony Orchestra in Austin (MN). Her upcoming performances include her debut in Madison (WI) for the "Salon Piano Series", her return in Savannah (GA) with a recital for the Armstrong Atlantic State University and her debut in Canada for MitBravour Concerts Series. Paola has also worked as artistic director and music critic for several recording companies. Paola lives in Boston, MA, with her husband, pianist Roberto Plano, and their three daughters.

Unbeatable experience, Paola has knowledge and piano skills very difficult to find in the area. She is very professional, sweet and funny at the same time, and my kids love her italian accent!
