Music Lessons should be fun!
Finding the right Piano or Voice Instructor will shape the way a student feels about music. When we make music we share a vulnerable and very unique part of ourselves. As a teacher, I strive to encourage, inspire and create an atmosphere for learning that is uniquely different for each of my students. My teaching style focuses on important skills but also emphasizes self-exploration and perhaps discovering a passion for something new. Take a look at the lessons I provide and choose the right one for you.

Neguine teaches piano to my two children, ages 8 and 6, and she’s been wonderful. She comes to our house and immediately the house is a calm friendly place to learn music. She’s patient with my kids who love piano but are still little, and she has a good sense of humor when they want to try something a little quirky. They also have been making great strides with sightreading, and their eagerness to learn more has only increased. Neguine also does not rush the kids: If a child needs to repeat part of a lesson for another week as she is good about making sure kids reinforce what they’re learning, which is something I appreciate, and my kids have learned to appreciate that too. I highly recommend her!

I'm a 'classically trained' voice teacher with extensive training in dance and drama;
a liberal arts degree from Columbia University/Master of Arts Education from City College of NY.
Before settling into a music career, worked as a dance instructor, for the City of NY and received congrats from John Lindsey, then mayor, for outstanding achievement.
As an actor, performed in several off-Broadway plays and was a principal in the “Broadway tour”, ”Pulitzer prize ” winning play, “No Place to be Somebody.” I've performed through the years as a vocalist with a trio and as a ONE WOMAN SHOW at various night spots, concert halls and social events. As a voice coach I've had the good fortune to teach the skills and techniques of the art of singing.
Singing is the joy I share as a performer and as a teacher. Anyone can learn to sing; and do it on a superior level. It takes desire and the willingness to practice the skills necessary until the goal is achieved.
The journey is worth it!

I studied with April S. for a year; I see my “great” improvements; breathing, holding notes, and discovering that I wasn’t tone deaf. I loved every second of every minute I spent learning to sing with April S. I plan to take more lessons in the future. It was my joy studying with April S.; it was a life long dream of mine to learn how to sing properly. I’m not where I want to be, but I’m so confident that with more lessons I will achieve everything I want with April S. as my vocal instructor.

I've been a professional singer and actress for over twelve years, performing on Broadway in Lincoln Center's Tony-winning Revival of "South Pacific" and touring the county with Rob McClure and Anika Larson in the First National Tour of "Avenue Q." I have an MFA in Performing Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design, graduated summa cum laude, and was the only female recipient of the Presidential Scholarship for Vocal Performance. My BA is in Arts and Education from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

I teach all levels of singing and am familiar with different styles, like contemporary musical theatre, legit, belting, and pop/ rock. As an actor who sings I think it's important to connect with the text and let the vocal technique support those choices for the most compelling performance. My passion is creating audition cuts and crafting them into bite-sized yet complete scenes. Audition technique is key if you want to be in shows because someone has to cast you first. A-mazing! She’s an awesome mentor! Her approach to singing is brilliant in the sense that she helps you explore yourself, your strengths and areas you could work on to improve. She helps you find and utilize your voice in a way that makes a unique artist. She digs in right to the foundation of singing (vocals) and performing. I am glad to have found her! And to add up, I never had a dull moment with her with her sense of humor and caring approach!

"She's really nice, and makes warm-ups before starting the lesson for your voice range. The variety of songs you can sing is pretty big, you want to sing in Italian? There's plenty! Want to sing in Latin? I'm pretty sure there's a few! There are songs from various musicals, too. All in all, she's a pretty great teacher."

"What a Teacher!

I've been taking singing lessons with Molly since Janurary and already I can tell a difference in my vocal ability. She makes learning how to sing properly so easy to understand and so much fun while doing it. I'm a little shy to sing in front of people and I need a confidence boost but Molly is so easy to feel comfortable with and I find myself becoming more outgoing and willing to try new things with my voice. Although I've been singing since I was young, with Molly's help I am just now learning how much easier those high notes can be. Plus her prices are super reasonable, she's the best and I'm so glad I have her encouraging me every step of my singing journey."

"I began taking vocal lessons with Tanisha back in December 2015. I had taken some voice lessons a few years prior, but it just didn't stick. Luckily, my first experience Tanisha was a great one. We went over my personal goals as a singer and she catered to those specific needs. I would say Tanisha's biggest strength as a singing instructor is the way she focuses on the singer's specific needs while making the lesson as fun as possible. Her ability to balance seriousness and enjoyment is something I have never seen before. I have recommended her to my friends, and I extend that recommendation to you!"

Learning to Read Music: An Introduction for Singers

Learning to read music can be a daunting task for beginner singers! Here, Ann Arbor, MI voice teacher Elaina R. shows you how to get started...   Not to point out the obvious, but as singers, we don’t have keys on our instrument.
